Cole started with an easy question.
"Did you start the fire?" Cole asked as he drew a three-legged stool up next to Salem.
Salem frowned and gave him the finger.
"I'll take that as a no, then" Cole seemed unaffected by Salem's crude gesture. "Did you get burnt trying to save the Esper family?"
Salem gave him a thumbs down.
"Ah. Interesting." Cole nodded to himself, placing a hand underneath his chin and thinking for a little while.
"I should have thought of this earlier." Cole said, leaving the room and returning with what looked to be a miniature black board and a bit of chalk.
He handed them to Salem. "Write your answers here." Cole said, holding out the items for him to take them.
Salem didn't reach for them. He looked at the burnt remnants of his arms a while. Cole, taking the hint after a while, retracted the proffered items.
"Well, I guess I will need to wait until you're fully recovered to get any answers." Cole spoke as if Salem wasn't at risk of losing his life to the burns.
Getting up and walking to the door, Cole threw a few words over his shoulder.
"If you need anything, just call." Before opening the heavy wooden door and slipping through, leaving Salem to contemplate his apparent idiocy in silence.
Salem watched him go, wondering if he had a screw or two loose.
Glancing up he thought to himself 'So he can't see that status screen?'

'This is just like one of those sh**ty mangas with systems.' Salem thought with amusement.
'Perhaps this is where the stories come from and there's people reading MY story in some other universe.'
Salem scoffed at the thought. It was preposterous to believe that there was a Universe where someone was writing his life as a story. Right?
Pushing his futile musings aside, Salem began trying to explore his system.
'...How do I interact with it if I can't move my body correctly?' Salem wondered.
