Maera didn't have a vision like that in a long time, where it felt so real that it frightened her. She knew deep down that it would come to pass and that she was meant to end up in the past. Maera knew she had to prepare herself if she was to be taken back in time. Thankfully she knew how to read and speak Ancient Greek and studying for years would help her, but she wanted to learn more about Aeolus, the seer that would be her and their son Drakon she would one day have.
Maera would go into town tomorrow, and go to the museum where they had a large collection of archives of their history of the island. She hoped she could travel back to main land while she was studying here to the capital Thebes and visit their natural history museum. It's where Greece's entire history dating back from ancient times was on display. That would be helpful to her she thought, but it could wait for tomorrow. She then laid down on her bed and pulled the covers over her. Maera shut off the lamp next to her and she started to fall asleep. The vision had taken a toll on her, she hadn't felt this drained in a long time nor had a vision so powerful.
She finally drifted off to sleep, but she only dreamed of Aeolus. This warrior who haunted her with his dark green eyes, but he mad her feel protected and loved at the same time. She just couldn't get out him out her head. Before she knew it though Maera could hear the alarm going off. It felt like she hardly gotten any sleep at all, but she wanted to get a head start on combing through the archives down at the museum. She turned over to the night stand and shut off the alarm on her cell phone. She laid there for a few moments thinking about everything that has happened. Maera then
reached for the necklace which was kept around her neck, and tucked under her night shirt. She didn't want to take it off, it was to valuable to be left alone and a powerful object that in the wrong hands could be used against her or even Actaea.
Maera stood up from her bed and stretched before heading over to the dresser set against the one wall. She opened the top drawer, pulled out at set of clothes; which was a pair of khaki shorts, a light blue t-shirts and white socks. She then sat at the edge of the bed and pulled on her work boots. Working up at the dig sight she made sure to buy heavy duty boots while working outside. Once Maera finished dressing, she stood in front of the mirror that was in her room and took look at herself. She suddenly had a flash back to her vision from last night; which she saw herself as the same age she was now, but her hair was longer, down past her shoulders, and wearing a flowing aquamarine color gown.
Maera suddenly took a deep breath and tried to push past the vision she had. She then pulled out the necklace around her neck and looked down at the stone. The stone was set in an oval shape, with a silver border around it and an inscription written in Ancient Greek. Some of the words were faded but she could make out several words. One word she could make out was the word sea nymph, another word written was goddess then the phrase son of Poseidon.
She wondered what the words meant but it was hard to tell since the other words had faded away long ago. What could it all mean she thought, for the phrase son of Poseidon could possibly mean Aeolus. From what Actaea had told her that Poseidon has given the stone to Aeolus to keep him safe but he would give it his beloved, which would turn out to be herself. She had to get to the museum and find out more information about the past.
Mares tucked the stone back under her shirt, then she grabbed her cell phone and mini back pack and headed out of her room. She made her way down the hall and turned towards the kitchen. Maera could hear the other students talking as she got closer. "What's going on here?" Maera asked. It was Mike who answered her.
"You didn't hear? Professor Morton and a few others students found a secret hidden room up at the temple last night."
"Last night? Why would they be working at night up there? I thought we were told not work at night for it's to dangerous?"
"Who knows why they were up there but they found a secret room. The professor called this morning and wants everybody up there in an hour. Also, he was asking for you specifically for there are all sorts of ancient Greeks words on the walls of the room that they found, no one can make them out expect for you."
"Of course I'll be there but it's still strange that they would be there at night. Something just doesn't add up."
"Maybe they got a lead and decided to keep looking for whatever's they were searching for."
He then handed her a cup of coffee, she took it and thanked him. "We are all gonna eat something then head up there in the van. You taking your moped?"
"Yeah I'll meet you guys up there." Maera said then she turned to grab a muffin that was on a plate with other pastries. The kitchen was getting a crowded with the other students grabbing their breakfast before heading up to the dig sight at the temple. Maera then headed towards to side door that lead out to the back porch that over looked the sea. She sat down in one of the chairs and took a bite of the muffin. As she was chewing on her muffin, she thought to herself something seemed off about them finding the secret room so suddenly when they have been here for a few weeks and the other students nor her professor had found any clues about a secret hidden room. Plus, what was even stranger was they found it that very night she had her vision, and learning everything she knew about Aeolus and Actaea's past.
Maera had to be carful, who knows what was in that room. Actaea had told her that there were other objects out there that were made by other gods and could be dangerous if they fell into the wrong hands. If there were any in that room the stone around her neck would glow. It could sense other magical objects. She knew the stone was powerful, and from what Actaea had mentioned it was also alive. The stone would supposedly send her back in time.
Maera was running out of time, she only had a two weeks before she would end up in the past. She had to find more information about the man she would eventually fall in love with, but first she would have to go see this hidden room at the temple, for it might hold some answers for her about her future.
