Chapter 24
"Even though I know how history is going to turn out, couldn't I try to prevent his death?"
"Trying to change history could seriously alter the future. You mustn't try to change anything. When you arrive in the past Actaea will find you, and you will then meet Aeolus. He will fall in love with you at first sight, but you must remember he had a hard life before you came along. You must be patient with him and give him time."
"When I have visions of him, he is always protecting me and I feel safe even though I haven't met him yet. I don't know how but I know he will always keep me safe no matter what."
"He is very protective of you, and will do anything for you. Just keep in mind that he has been thru so much in his life."
"Then I am truly meant to end up in the past then. My destiny to be seer, my true love is a warrior and I will be a mother to a great king." Maera then took a deep breath and knew she had to accept that she was meant for the past.
"Everything will turn out alright. It's good to prepare yourself now before you are to end up in the past. You know your history, and know how to read and write ancient Greek. All of it will help you adapt in that time. Just be careful who you trust. There are not just gods and goddesses who you have to watch out for but also mortals.
They will try to control you for your gift or try to use you against Aeolus. His half-brother Otos is someone you must be cautious of, he was always jealous of Aeolus for being a favorite to their father. Otos wasn't born with gifts and he always resented his siblings who were gifted. He will be the one who will lure Aeolus to the beach by using you and your son as bait."
"That is what Actaea told me and that is when Aeolus will die protecting our son and myself. Ares gave the blade to Otos so he could use it against Aeolus. I just wish there was something I could do to change his fate."
"If you were to try to then there will be major consequences. You must let history play out. Everything is connected and to change it could erase what has already happened."
"I understand, I just need to prepare myself for what is to come. I do have to ask you a few questions though? How do you know who I was, or that I found Drakon's hidden tomb, and why did the necklace I have reacted to something in that hidden room?"
"Well, the stone would have reacted to someone or something in that room. It can be an item made from one of the gods or goddesses or the other reason why that is someone in that room is an immortal being or half immortal. I knew who are because we will become very close friends in the past. I wanted to meet you in the present and to tell you that everything that will happen is meant to. Also, I wanted to reassure you that you will adjust in time when you are in the past and you will be happy with Aeolus. Now you said the stone reacted to something in the tomb?"
"Yes, when I entered the room it reacted to something in there. At first I thought it could have been the sarcophagus but now I'm not so sure."
"It wouldn't been Drakon's tomb but perhaps an object that would have been buried with him. Was there anyone else with you in the room?"
"Yes, my professor, he studies ancient Greek and its mythologies. He was the only other person in the room with me. Could he be an immortal, one of the old gods? All I know is that he has been to Greece to study the old ruins and always found something. As if he knew where to look, and same with this hidden room. He knew where to find the hidden door to Drakon's tomb."
"What does he look like, your professor? It's possible he may be an immortal, especially if the stone reacted the way you said it did."
"His name is Nicolas, he is stands at least six feet tall, has dark hair, and is in his late forties. Could it be possible, him being an immortal? When you came up to me the stone did react to you."
"It would react because I have an object that was made by a god, or in his case a half god. I'm not a goddess though. I have the title only because I married Poseidon. I'm only a sea nymph, but I do posse some powers. The stone doesn't sense creatures like myself, only objects and those born as a god or goddess. I haven't been with Poseidon in a long time not since he was obsessed with finding his brother and nephew. He has hunted them for centuries, when he finally found Hades and Ares the three of them fought a fierce battel between them, each were equally matched.
My husband had so much rage in him that he was able to defeat both of them. Hades retreated back to the underworld badly wounded, and Ares ran for his life for he knew he couldn't defeat Poseidon. He then hid himself by stealing a cloak that was made of invisibility.
It belonged to Aphrodite's son Eros for he wore it when he traveled to the mortal realm on business for his mother. Ares hid among the mortals and was banished from Olympus. His father Zeus would never allow him back. From what I heard after his banishment he kept searching for other demigod who were born with gifts. He would steal their gifts by absorbing them by using a stone designed for that. The stone was designed to steal other immortal's and demigods gifts they were born with. Then the stone itself would make the wearer younger. It would allow them to be immortal forever as long as that person had the power to activate it."
"How did he get a stone like that? Exactly how many stones were made that hold that kind of powers?"
"From what I know there were only three, the one I wear can heal the wearer, the one you possess will protect the wearer no matter what, it can have them travel thru space and time, and the third can make the wearer immortal by absorbing other's gifts. That stone is made of black obsidian, yours is an emerald, and mine from an aquamarine stone. It was a demigod who designed the stones, he believed that half gods should have some powers besides the full blooded gods.
He thought it wasn't fair so he created them without anyone having any knowledge of the stones. With all three stones he became very powerful, almost as powerful as Zeus and his three brothers. The demigod was eventually defeated and Zeus gave the stones to Poseidon to keep safe. He couldn't keep them on mount Olympus for the others would have fought over them, but he did entrust my husband to hide them away. I was given one as a gift on our wedding day, and the green emerald was given to Aeolus. The third stone was stolen by Ares when he fought against my husband."
"I can't believe that he is in possession of one of the stones. That just makes him more dangerous. No wonder Zeus didn't have the stones be kept on mount Olympus. He wanted to eliminate the others who weren't born as a full blooded god or goddess. It could be him then my professor, it could be Ares."
"Where is he now?"
"Before I came out here, he was back in the temple, inside the hidden room. He knows how to read ancient Greek and has an extensive knowledge of the history of Greece. Would there be a chance that in Drakon's tomb would be an item buried with him that Ares could use?"
"It's possible. If I remember correctly I do believe that he was buried with Aeolus's sword which was made for him by his father Poseidon. If another god were to get ahold of the sword they would become invincible. If your professor is truly Ares then it would be harder to stop him, for he would have the sword and he has the stone as well. The sword will enhance the stone's powers that Ares possess."
"Isn't there any other gods still alive that could stop him? What about Poseidon? He's been searching for Ares for a long time he could stop him once and for all."
"It won't be that easy, for Ares has the stone to steal other's powers but if he does have the sword, it will cut thru anything or anyone. Immortal or not, like the blade that killed Aeolus."
Amphitrite didn't know if she should contact her husband. For ever since that day he went too far in punishing Actaea even further for her marrying a mortal, he had her husband killed by drowning at sea. Amphitrite could no longer be with him, he had taken his revenge to far, and so she left him and returned home to her father and sisters to the sea. It felt like a lifetime ago for her. She only saw him maybe a handful of times over the years. Last time she saw him was well over twenty years ago. He looked like too had age, but everything else about him was the same. Over the years he had tried to ask for her forgiveness, but Amphitrite couldn't grant it to him. She even felt guilty facing her sister Actaea. How could she face her after what Poseidon had done to her?
