Chapter 3 - Chapter 3. The Aftermath

Finally, all alone, Donna shook her fists at the betrayal from the love of her life and her best friend! Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Her tears quickly turned into sobs! She was in shock and disbelief and thought all I wanted to do was to surprise John but instead the surprise was on me.

Part of Donna wished she had never come up to see John and then she could pretend for a little bit longer that things were fine. Yet, She knew in her heart that things would never be fine between she and John again. Not when he betrayed her love. Donna thought their marriage was in good shape, especially when Deanna was constantly reassuring her of John's love even when she did have little moments of doubt. Of course, Deanna would reassure Donna of John's love. That kept suspicion down and their secret affair safe. How could they betray me like that! I should have seen the signs, they were there, I just didn't see them. All I wanted to do was to surprise John and let him know how much he meant to me but the surprise was really on me!

Still crying, she fell asleep on the couch and managed to sleep until her alarm went off at 7 a.m. She usually jogged on the weekends with Deanna but this weekend she didn't feel like jogging with Deanna, maybe running her down with a car or something but definitely not jogging!

After several more revengeful ideas, she turned off the alarm and managed to sleep until 9 before waking up. At first, she had been dreaming of John making love to her but then reality set in and that romantic thought went out the window with the rest of her life.

Donna missed her morning coffee so she decided to order a pot of coffee, fruit, an omelet with bacon and a blueberry muffin. Oh yes, please charge it to the room and her husband, Mr. Jamison. At least she could eat well on John while grieving their lost marriage. She also decided to total his credit card and go shopping for a new outfit or two and several lovely Italian soft leathers and of course, she was almost out of her favorite perfume. She planned to eat at the best restaurants and then just kicking back and enjoying this weekend the best she could before she went back home. Donna almost started to feel guilty but changed her mind. She had never done this type of thing before but somehow this felt right.

After all the chaos that happened early Saturday morning, Donna was in no shape to go back home so she called the front desk clerk to pay for the hotel through Sunday but of course John had charged it to his personal company for the full weekend. Imagine that, cheating and letting Uncle Sam pay for the time as business! There was business alright! Monkey business! After Donna hung up the phone, she thought that in one short night her whole life has changed to no husband, and no more best friend and what about the huge house they owned? Yesterday she was happily married but today everything had collapsed.

Feeling pretty down at this point, she cleaned her face up and went downstairs to the gift shop where she bought a soft flannel gown and a pretty robe and slippers. She also grabbed some of her favorite snacks, paid the clerk, and headed back to her hotel room. She ran the water in the bathtub and threw in some of her favorite bath salts. She poured herself a glass of wine and turned up some C&W music and laid back in the tub for a warm soak. She felt so relaxed as she got out, dryed off, and put her gown on. She dried her long curly red hair enough to keep it from frizzing, turned the television on to some comedy type movies, and fell asleep a short time later.

When she finally woke back up it was 7 p.m. and hunger had set in again. She called room service and ordered a feast of her favorite entrees, an expensive meal paid for by John!

The doorbell rang, and room service brought her favorites, lobster, cracked crab, Caesar salad, and of course her bottle of wine. As soon as room service was out the door, she poured herself a small glass of wine and then she turned on some music and tried to enjoy her meal but her tears kept salting her lobster and deluting her wine until finally she threw the napkin over her plate crying even harder! Would her life recover from this mess and would she be able to move on with her new life, one without a husband and a best friend?

She covered her plate and put everything she could into the little mini refrigerator hoping she would eat it tomorrow.

Exhausted from all the crying, Donna made it into the bedroom where she immediately thought of the bed that John had bought her and, of course, tears fell again. Then, taking off her robe and slippers, she pulled the covers back and crawled into the bed. Oh well, so much for her pity party. After all the crying, she just wanted to sleep.
