Donna's life slowly took on a normalcy once again. Her job was great! She had just relaxed around Wayne so that she could have a good working relationship but gently dismissed any other advances. It was just too soon after she and John's breakup. Besides, legally they were still married until the court date to divide their assets took place. It had been delayed but was now scheduled for May with the wedding month, June, the date Deanna and John had set for their wedding. John let that little bit of information slip when Donna and he were trying to schedule court dates with the attorneys.
Donna hadn't seen Deanna since that fateful night she caught her sleeping with John. That is, until she noticed her at one of the nicer stores in the mall, Victoria Secret. Deanna was working on buying her bridal trousseau.
Donna only wished she'd let her pick out her trousseau. Donna had some pretty nasty thoughts before she actually just thought of attacking her in front of the whole mall but on second thought, she didn't want to hurt her position at the hospital and Deanna wasn't worth that happening, so she just walked back out of the store before Deanna saw her.
Besides, Deanna had known that Donna would not have wanted her entertaining her husband with her not there. Donna knew Deanna's attitude toward men and she had no doubt that Deanna knew exactly what she was doing the night she came over to stay with John. Best friends just don't do that to best friends or any friends for that matter. She once told Donna that John should be married to her since their personalities were better matched. Some friend. huh?
Donna knew all this negativity would only work to bring her down. She also knew that it would be around for awhile. There was this wedding coming up. You think they would be discrete and let some of the pain and gossip settle down but instead Deanna wanted a real wedding with the works, can you imagine that? She loses her first husband cheating on him with her best friend's husband, causing grief to her first husband to the point he left Deanna and causing grief to her best friend as she steals her husband at the same time and she wants to celebrate it by having a large wedding! Wait just a minute! Donna realized that deep down she had been blaming only Deanna for this mess but, in truth, John, the man she had vowed to love, honor, and cherish, had deserted her for that hussy of a woman, her so called friend because she wasn't always busy with her career, like Donna was, in fact, she wasn't busy at all! Unless you call stealing husbands a job!
Donna's day of shopping seemed too much effort after running into or at least almost running into Deanna. Tiring some and hungry, she decided on a quick bite and then home for her.
She placed her order for a chicken sandwich and fries at a Chick-Fil-A in the Mall, and waited for her name to be called. In a few minutes, she thought she heard her name being called and started to get her meal when a rather handsome guy had already paid for it and was on his way to a small bistro table to sit down. Chasing him to get her meal back, she finally caught him and was trying to explain that he had her meal when someone called her name and sure enough it wasn't her meal. Donna turned beet red when she heard her name and immediately started apologizing. The confused man just laughed and said "I think I know what happened, pulling out a chair for Donna. "Please have a seat and let me get your meal for you and I'll explain it all."
Donna nodded and let him fight the crowd back to the counter to get her meal. When he got back, he gave Donna her food and then extended his hand to her. "Hi, I'm Don. Don Sanderson to be exact. I'm an attorney with Able, Johnson, and Sanderson downtown. Donna smiled and introduced herself also. Don immediately laughed and said "I believe I know why the mixup in the food." Donna laughed when she realized that Don and Donna sounded alike over a crowd of food court people. "Wait, one more thing Don said "what did you order? Chicken sandwich, waffle fries, and a Coke?" "Yes, exactly! That's too strange Donna, that's what I ordered also. Why don't you just stay seated and eat your lunch with me Donna. May I call you Donna?" Why not, we're practically twins!" smiled Donna.
They both talked over a quick lunch before Don excused himself for a 1 p.m. court hearing. Before leaving, he gave her his card and asked her if she'd like to go out to dinner some time with him? Donna handed him her card, smiled her best smile and explained her odd working hours but
said "Give me a call and we'll work out the logistics." Then he leaned in and kissed her on the hand and whispered "By the way, that was your lunch not mine but when I first saw you, I knew I wanted to meet you so I thought fast and made up the meal mixup part. With that Donna shook her finger at him before he could escape her! Then he did the sign for I'll call you before he rounded the corner.
Donna gathered her shopping bags and headed home with a much lighter feeling then she'd had earlier in the day.
