Chapter 11 - Clans

Star Light led him into the forest, he was looking all around curiously since it was the first time that he was there. Their den was located in a small clearing where there weren't many trees. They only walked inside for about 7 minutes before they reached a lake.

Ryan found his father looking at the sky's reflection in the water, when he heard them walking towards them he stood up.

Ryan was always a little frightened by him, even if he had made fun of the wolf saying that it was a pegasus and unicorn hybrid that didn't hide the fact that the wolf was huge.

He looked at the Alpha and swallowed some saliva, Star Light, on the other hand, walked towards the wolf and they began nuzzling. After they had finished she looked at him and left.

Ryan was left with his jaw open "What the hell why leave me here alone with this monster", he thought.

His father nodded at him and then turned around and looked back at the reflection of the sky. After feeling awkward just standing there in silence he stood next to the alpha and looked at the lake as well.

He was surprised at how good it felt, the air around was moist and since he had a strong sense of smell he noticed how clean it was. He looked at the sky that was reflected in the water and found it beautiful, he wouldn't mind if he stayed looking at it all day.

He shook his head, he knew that it wasn't possible at the moment. He could do that once he was human but for now, he only had time to get stronger. They stayed looking at the pond for a few more minutes but then his father started speaking, "I hear from the others that you are quite the talented."

Ryan looked at him "Well I don't know if I'm talented or not, I simply just listen to what mother says. If she said that only the strong will survive then that's what I gotta be. I simply look for ways to make it happen."

His father nodded "Your mother is just saying that to make sure you all stay alive, the strong indeed survive but it's also the job of the strong to keep the weak safe. Star Light is an independent wolf she never liked to depend on others but that doesn't stop her from helping others when they are in need."

He looked at the winged wolf who still hadn't looked away from the pond and asked "Father I heard that there are other packs besides ours. I wanted to know if you could tell me more about them. I don't know the reason that I was called here by you but I can't wait, I wanted to know what they were like and our relations with them.

The alpha looked at him surprised "Oh and how is it that my son knows about this."

"I just happened to hear about it when I was training anyway can you tell me more."

His father nodded and sat down looking at Ryan "Well in total there are 6 packs that are in this forest, we all have different beliefs and customs. Luckily most of us want peace so even if some problems pop up from time to time but not many get too far."

"One of the packs is the Mountain Clan, Like their name states they live close to the mountains. After living there for so long they have become one of the strongest of all the other clans. The harsh environment allows them to become both physically and mentally better than the rest. The downside of the clan is that the harsh conditions also make them have one of the highest death rates. Some times from what I've heard they can lose most of their pups, from hunger or to other creatures that also live in the mountain."

"The Storm Clan is an extremely secretive bunch, all we know is that whoever enters their territory hasn't made it back. They live in the densest part of the forest and it's hard to maneuver in it but for them it's normal. They tend to be silent whenever we see them and as long as their Alpha doesn't order them to move they don't. As for their numbers we have no idea, all we know is that as long as they are not bothered by anyone they won't act hostile."

"Then here is the Swamp Clan as just like the Mountain Clan their name states where they are from. They live in the swampy area of the forest, they are the best swimmers and one of the only ones that like living in wet areas. As long as they are in their swampy territory then they are nearly unbeatable. This might make them sound easy to deal with but if they wanted to they could attack then they could easily catch all of us by surprising us with a water route."

"The Blood Clan is more of a battle-hungry group which is literally displayed by their name. They are the ones who follow the words "Only the strong survive" but they follow it to the letter. This group is a group of battle-hardened warriors, no one is willing to face them without thinking about it twice. Out of all the clans they are the ones who have the biggest territory and as long as I've known they haven't lost any territory on the contrary they have done nothing more than gain."

"The Tree Clan is a clan that focuses on sneaking in the forest. They are trained to somehow be able to travel by jumping from branch to branch like a bunch of squirrels. Out of everyone they are definitely the best ones to talk to since they are extremely friendly. As long as they are not offended in some way then you're fine."

"And finally there is us the Tempest Clan the name was given to us because of our speed. We live on the part of the forest that is the least dense allowing us to run at top speeds without having to avoid trees so much. We are faster than any of the other clans and live on one of the best territories which causes a lot of trouble for us. There are different clans whose greed sometimes blinds them so we have to become stronger."

"We all meet every full moon we have a truce and meet at a cave in the edge of the forest to talk about problems that are arising. Most of the time they just talk about things that don't affect them personally so that they don't sound weak but still it's helpful."

Ryan just stared at his father while he listened without even blinking. He was totally engulfed in what his father was talking about but then he noticed something and asked. "Father, you say that each clan specializes in their own thing, isn't that affected by the evolutions that we have."

The alpha nodded "My you really like to think don't ya? I see what you mean but haven't you noticed that the ones who evolved still have the same physic. Their appearance and abilities are enhanced but unless you reach your 4th or 5th evolution then it won't change your body by much. Now I've seen a few evolutions where the body changes drastically but I haven't seen many."

Ryan sighed and thought "Well looks like it's going to be harder than I expected it to be. He talks as if it rarely happens."

He turned and looked at the winged wolf "Father, you've answered my questions but didn't tell me exactly what it is you asked to see me for."

The large wolf grabbed him with a paw and began nuzzling him "My young Viper Pup, I just wanted to get to know my son. I know that I'm not always around, but that's because I have responsibilities I have to do as the alpha and the strongest ones here. From what I've heard you are keeping things interesting for them, and I personally saw how much they respect you. I just want to ask you to continue to do what you're doing, those pups look up to you to make sure not to let them down."

Ryan nodded immediately and thought "Don't worry I've already made up my mind in helping them.

His father grabbed him by the neck and began flying to the camp and dropped him up in the entrance of the den. When he got there he found all 11 pups wagging their tails as they were looking at him. He sighed and thought "Looks like we have to get ready to have a life full of trouble ahead of us."
