Chapter 2 - 02 Summoned

The midday hot gym was replaced with a myriad colors swirling around her Konigsdottir gripped Bobby's hand. "Let go! You're crushing my hand Konigsdottir!" Bobby screamed in pain and terror.

The floor stopped moving but her class screamed in terror. Her Sylvan ears flicked side to side in annoyance. Her long blond hair usually covering her furry cat like ears. For all appearances she looked human even through she was Sylvan. She was from North Sylvania just two miles into the Great Forest. Her people had settled there after being summoned by The Fey centuries ago. The Fey needed a buffer race between themselves and the humans encroaching on Fey lands. Sylvans were accepted by both races as a natural buffer looking much like humans to be accepted as human but with enough differences to be accepted by The Fey.

Sylvans were fleeing capture by demons when they were summoned to the new world. While they brought their magic technology with them they learned new technologies from humans and new magic from The Fey. As a rule Sylvans could view their own attributes and abilities as a mental picture in their minds but not other Sylvans. The sole exception was the Sylvan royal family. Of which Konigsdottir was in fact, as her name meant in Sylvan, The King's Daughter.

Now it seemed her national chess club and all the other competitors were summoned to another world.

"Welcome Heroes Of Another World." A burly man in an enormous purple robe said from the top of a dais.

Some of her classmates were still holding chess pieces looking baffled. Others had simply fainted.

"Hear ye, Hear ye the king has welcomed the Heroes!" An armored man shouted rapping his firmly on the floor.

"Where's the teacher" whined a girl

"Where's the ref?" whines another girl.

"Where are we?!?" Bobby said aloud

"Well where ever we are I'm hoping the don't expect us to fight off demons" said Konigsdottir. That was a common trope written in those trashy human novels. Konigsdottir quickly began checking on her status while looking around. Doing so she came to realize that the humans from the world also had status panels as well.

Her classmates did as well though they didn't have that in their own world.

She read the king's mana at twenty five, her classmates around an average of fifteen and the rest of the court around five.

Konigsdottir knew right away that she should hide her own mana status. Any digits following the first number eight were kept obscured. Konigsdottir would appear stronger than the nobles but weaker than her classmates.

The king had been talking while she had been editing her profile. "And so we summoned you to protect us from the demons and their beastkin henchmen." The king concluded.

"Wait, what are beastkin?" asked Astrid, a shy girl that encastled her king in every game she played.

"Hello I am the king's wizard, So Long by name, can you open up your status panels so we may determine the type of training that best fits you. Oh? You don't know what a status panel is? Well if you see something glowing in front of your eyes then touch it with you finger."

Students did so to reveal their status panels. "Hmm. Mana thirteen, good agility. Knows chess and archery. Fine. Well send you for additional archer training."

One by one each student was checked. Everyone was at thirteen to sixteen and the common skill was of course chess.

So Long finally arrived before Konigsdottir. "Open your status panel. Hmm. Your name is Konigsdottir? A king's daughter? Mana eight. Chess, knitting and needlecrafting? Except for chess it's what a princess is supposed to know. It's good your world has similar traditions. Seems everyone knows chess too."

Konigsdottir had not expected them to know the meaning of her name so didn't think to hide it.

"Wizard So Long you kidnapped, I mean, summoned a chess competition. All the students here are the top chess players of their respective schools." Bobby added helpfully.

The hair at the nape of Konigsdottir's neck rose.

"Hmm. So you are a princess of your people. Not much mana so it will be hard to place you as a combatant" said the king. He smiled gesturing with his arm and waiting for Konigsdottir to take his proffered hand.

"Let the feasting commence." The king announced.
