Chapter 3 - The Beginings of a Family

Resting with Yang on her lap and caressing her hair, Summer started talking to Yang.

"So, you know how I told you that you're getting a little sister."

"Uh-huh!" Baby Yang excitedly replied, "And you said that I could play with her!"

Mentally trying to figure out the best way of breaking the news, Summer started to show a small frown on her face.

"Mommy, are you sad? Don't cry Mommy, did I do something wrong?"

Laughing slightly at her daughter's innocence that she would use to her advantage, Summer responded carefully, so that she could test the waters in case Yang would get mad. "Well, you know how you're getting a little sister in a while?"

"Uh-huh, and you said I could play with her! And that it wouldn't just be me and dad when you go out on jobs."

"Well, you're also having a little brother!"

"Have you come up with a name for him like how you did for Ruby? Wait, does this mean you're having twins??"

"No."

"No to name or to twins?"

"Both."

"Ooh ooh ooh, can I name him then!"

"Well, maybe it depends if-"

"WAIT IT'S NOT TWINS! DOES THIS MEAN THAT DAD'S PREGNANT"

Startled at both her daughter's loud voice and the words she spoke, she paused for enough time to faintly hear Qrow start laughing at the idea, along with some unsavory follow-up comments. Promptly followed by Tai yelling about refusing to get a painter. She'll deal with the two later; first, she had a daughter to console? teach? manipulate?

Nononono. Not that last one, it doesn't count as manipulation if it's her daughter right?

...

Right?

Right!

Now that Summer cleared her conscience of all doubts for her future actions, she returned to her step-daughter. "No, sweetie, Tai can't become pregnant, but that's not was-"

"He can't but you can, you can do so much more mommy, that's why I love you more!"

Having heard Qrow and his laughter at her husband's expense, she could only sigh. "Even if it's true don't say it, okay? Plus, there's probably a lot of things daddy can do that mommy can't. But what I was trying to say was that your younger brother isn't mine, he's your uncle Qrow's."

"Ahh, so Daddy can't get pregnant but Qrow can!"

Ignoring Tai's booming laughter and Qrow's scathing retort, she continued. "No, Qrow found the child, and because it isn't ever a good idea to give Qrow something fragile, let alone a child, we're taking him in, especially because he's a Faunus."

"Does he have a tail?"

"Yes he does, he is a fox and a white tail."

"Can I go see it. Please! I won't be bad for a week I promise!"

"He's downstairs, and you could go see him, but it's late so I'll bring him up late and you'll see him first thing in the morning."

"Ah! Yea, the name? Can I name him?"

"Hmm, I don't know. Everyone had some ideas."

"Ohh, like what? What did dad come up with?"

"Well, Qrow gave a lot of ideas, like variations of Reyn (Ren Ryn, etc. etc.), as well as something with Vulpes

Tai threw around Album, but then went with Ruptor and Callid (Yes I know I stole from Latin)

I wanted Axelandr, or just Alexander"

"Ooh, Dad's sound weird but the others are fine!"

"I'm sure Qrow will love to hear that! But right now, you need to go to bed, okay?"

"If I don't see him in the morning I'm going to be mad!"

Missing the glint in her Mom's eye when she reassured her and asked her to go to bed, Yang finally agreed to sleep, wondering just how fluffy his tail would be.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Walking downstairs, Summer ignored the quarreling idiots laughing at the other's expense and instead cast her eyes to the child swaddled in Qrow's old cloak. Chuckling at the idea of a young, innocent Qrow, she suddenly tore the cloak away from him. When questioned by Qrow as to why she returned it when the kid was using it, she responded.

"I refuse to have a kid who wakes up to smell your booze and be addicted to it just because his 'father' is an alcoholic."

"Harsh"

"Shut it Tai, but he doesn't matter, what are you going to put him in now?"

"I have some spare -clean- cloaks"

Wrapping up the kid, who was either Alexandr or whatever the pea-brains came up with, Summer noticed his features. Although she had already seen his purple eyes, hence the name (A/N Alexandrite) she just noticed the two sets of ears he had, both the human and the fox ones. Caressing the fox pair she marveled at how soft they were, she smiled at how soft it was, and if she thought so, then Yang would as well. Wondering why there was a bump at the back, she remembered the tail and had a sudden urge to caress it. If the ears were that soft, how would the tail feel?

Calm. She needed to keep calm. She was a huntress, one of the best and there was no way she would fall to the temptation of fluffing the tail. Fluffing the soft, white smooth-NO!

No.

no

no?

It's just one time, it can't be that bad?

NO! He's your son now. Besides, it'll have to be washed.

Washing the tail? Bath scene?

Putting the thought away for later, Summer was about to walk into Yang's room when she realized the issue with putting a naked boy Qrow brought home in her daughter's bed. Not even she could save him from Tai's wrath. She needed to be sneaky about this. She couldn't brute force this. Going back out, she used her semblance to quickly zoom around the house and find something that would fit. Finally, she settled on a pair of white sweatpants and a beige sweater that had shrunk several sizes from when Tai wore them last.

That wasn't the important part though. What mattered was that those were the colors of the pillows and sheets in Yang's bed. If Summer was right, which the normally was, Yang who would start to toss and turn would latch on the boy, ideally the tail, and then Tai wouldn't be able to yell at the kid as Yang instigated it, provable by baby cam. About let out the mother of all evil laughs, Summer quickly composed herself. She couldn't wake either of the kids, well the ones who were awake *cough* Qrow and Tai *cough* Slowly tucking the child into the bed she left the room to let them sleep.

Besides, like with old photos you need a dark room for things to ... develop.

Sighing at the sight of the two children softly sleeping, she let her hand wander to her stomach.

"I will raise him as if he came out of here. Tai doesn't seem to like him a lot, Qrow's a birdbrain, and Oz is still mildly dubious. I don't want him to grow up in a warzone, I want him to have a happy childhood. I want all of them to have one."

Smiling as she walked out of the room, Summer went downstairs to finalize the kid's name. She would fight tooth and nail for Alexandr, any prior relationship be damned.
