Trevor Williams walked into his gourmet kitchen where the chef his wife hired for the evening was preparing dinner. This was an important dinner, with the head of the firm. This dinner was to determine if his wife was to make partner or not. He checked over the menu and nodded, "It looks good" he applauded the chef. He walked over to the sliding glass doors and looked out at the backyard where his daughters Declan and Darcy were playing.
Suddenly Darcy was gone and Declan was screaming, thunder began and rain pelted the ground. Trevor ran out as fast as he could as the nanny, Lynnette followed behind. "Declan, where's your sister?" Mr. Williams asked as he snatched Declan up. "She hit me with the tea pot," a six year old Declan screamed with a hand over a lump forming on her head. "Where is Darcy?" he yelled shaking her slightly. Declan's brow furrowed and she pointed at the pond, "It grabbed her when I screamed," Declan said. Trevor didn't hesitate he ran into the pond and frantically searched for his five year old. Finally he found her limp body, he grabbed her and laid her on the ground and started CPR. Lynette the nanny was holding Declan, a few breaths in and Darcy was coughing up water. "I'm taking her to the hospital, call Olivia and tell her to meet me there," he shouted as he ran with Darcy to the car.
Lynette took Declan up to her room and cleaned her up. Lynette helped Declan put on her favorite blue night gown, and was brushing Declan's hair, "I know your sister made you mad, but you need to calm down my darling," the fifty something year old woman soothing voice spoke. "It hurt when she hit me," Declan said. "I know, but she didn't mean to hurt you," Lynette said. "Yes, she did. It was my turn with the tea pot and she wouldn't give it to me, when I said I would tell she called me a baby and threw it at me," Declan said. The storm got heavier as she told the story, "Shhh, remember we need to control our temper so we don't create storms," Lynette soothed. "I know, I'm sorry," Declan looked down.
The door slammed, "Where is she?" Declan heard her mother's voice screaming. "Olivia calm down," Trevor quieted. Lynette and Declan came down the stairs, "Lynnette, please take Darcy to bed and sit with her," Trevor stated, which code for sleep in her room was and make sure she's ok. Lynnette patted Declan on the head and walked over taking Darcy and went to her room. "Declan you nearly killed your sister," Olivia Williams screamed. "Screaming at her isn't going to help," Trevor tried to calm his wife. "This is the third time, Trevor. We can't pretend this isn't happening, the storms, the water. She's not normal," Olivia said angrily to her husband. "She can't control it," Trevor defended. Declan hated when they talked about her like she wasn't there. "Do you want to go away, to some home?" Olivia asked. Declan shook her head, "Then you had better stop this, this, whatever it is you can do," her mother yelled back.
Declan woke up in a cold sweat, why were these memories coming back? Why were these painful memories stirring and churning in her head. She had been laying in her dorm for a week now, with an overwhelming feeling that someone was holding on to her heart. It wasn't that it was beating too fast or like the symptoms of a heart attack, not like that at all. It literally felt as if someone was clutching her heart in their demon like claws and squeezing sometime clawing it with razor sharp nails. Her childhood friend Owen, who had followed her to college, had had enough of Declan being absent. It was her senior year and she was so close to graduating that he wasn't about to allow her to just fail. He picked her up and against her will and took her down to the awaiting cab.
The cab took them to the local hospital Gloriana Grace Memorial Hospital. A fiery red haired nurse was at the emergency room desk when they walked in. "She's been having chest pain for a week," Owen told her. The nurse brushed Declan's hair away from her face and gasped, "Declan," she whispered. "How do you know her name?" Owen asked. "Bring her in here," the nurse said, ushering them into an exam room. "Declan, it's me, its Ally," the nurse tried to remind her. "Who are you?" Owen asked. "Can you describe your pain?" she asked. "He's gripping me," Declan gasped. The pain seemed to be getting worse and now Declan could barely speak. "Where?" Ally pressed. Declan couldn't say anything she just gripped her chest. Ally looked her up and down and took a deep breath before turning around, "Who are you?" she asked Owen. "I'm her boyfriend," he replied. "Well, that's going to complicate things. Ok take her to this address ask for Aiden, and tell them Ally sent her," she said handing him a piece of paper. "What about her chest pain, she needs medical attention," Owen protested. "No she doesn't, she needs Dex," Ally said. "Who's Dex?" Owen asked. Declan shrieked in pain, "Just take her there, before he kills her," Ally said helping Declan up and out the door to a cab.
The taxi pulled up outside an old brick mansion of sorts, the whole street was old brick homes and manicured lawns. Owen knocked on the door, and a tall man with black hair pulled into a pony tail answered. "Can I help you?" his deep voice bellowed on the porch. "I was told to come here and see Aiden, by a nurse," Owen stated shifting Declan's weight. "I'm sorry, Aiden is not home," the man said. "He's lying," Declan's ragged voice called out. She gripped her chest and climbed out of Owen's arms and into the house. Declan walked half falling, through the house like she knew it, down a hall to a door. Owen was going to knock, but Declan opened it and collapsed inside. "Excuse me, what is a meaning of this?" Aiden said standing up from his desk. "Her name is Declan, we were sent here to look for Aiden or Dex, by a nurse at the hospital," Owen stammered out trying to help Declan up. Aiden walked over and helped Owen stand her up and walked her to one of the leather cherry brown sofas. "Pete, you'd better get Dexter," Aiden motioned at the door. The tall dark haired man nodded and disappeared.
"Can you explain what is going on?" Owen asked. "Who are you?" Aiden asked. "I'm her boyfriend," Owen told him. Aiden chuckled, "We'll see, have a seat," Aiden said motioning to a cherry brown winged chair that matched the sofa Declan was lying on. A few minutes later another younger blue eyed man breezed in with a confidence about him, he was tall, dark hair cut in a hipster long on top faded sides. He wore a pair of dark blue slacks a white button up shirt under a gray sweater, which made his blue eyes piercing. "Aiden?" his deep voice broke the shrieks of Declan. "Declan," Aiden said letting out a breath and motioning to the brunette lying on the sofa crying. "No," Dex face went ashen. "Dexter, you can try to dispute this, but Ally sent her here and if you don't, she will die," Aiden said almost scolding. Owen watched the exchange carefully; Dex stared at the twenty three year old before swallowing the lump in his throat and sitting down on cherry wood coffee table and stared at her waiting for something, he wasn't quite sure what.
Declan opened her brown doe eyes and for a minute a thousand memories flickered between them. "Dexter," Aiden called snapping them both out of it. Dex grabbed her hand and immediately Declan could breath normally, and fell into an exhausted sleep. "Well, now we have quite the mess," Aiden said walking back behind his desk and taking a seat. "Who's this?" Dex asked finally noticing Owen. "The boyfriend," Aiden replied pinching the spot between his eye brows. Dex looked at Declan then back at Owen and smirked. "What was that smirk about, I am her boyfriend. Someone better start getting me some answers," Owen began yelling.
Ally walked in before anyone could answer. "I came home as soon as I could," she said. Aiden jumped up and kissed her, "How is she?" Ally asked. "She's calm," Aiden assured. "How do we know this is Declan?" Dex spoke up. "You've broken Sawyer's hold on her, that's not proof enough?" Ally asked. "No, that could have been complete coincidence," Dex shot back, still staring at Declan. Aiden shook his head, "Whose Sawyer?" Owen ask, determine to not let them keep forgetting he was there. "Why is he still here?" Ally asked. Aiden shrugged, "So boyfriend," Ally began. "Owen," he corrected. "Owen, nothing is going to get solved tonight, so why don't you leave Declan here, and she can call you in the morning," Ally explained. "No I'm not buying that, I want to know what's going on now, or I'm leaving with her," Owen said. "You're not taking her anywhere," Dex said letting go of Declan and turning to get in Owen's face. "What are you going to do about it?" Owen asked knowing full well Dex could take him out with one hit. The commotion had woken Declan, "Owen, please stop," she said trying to stand. "You don't know these people, Declan," Owen pleaded. "Dex," Ally said noticing Declan began to breathe harder. "I think you need to leave now," Dex said, his protective side coming out. "As long as she stays I stay," Owen said matching Dex. "Dex," Aiden said noticing as well. "What are you going to do about it?" Dex repeated Owen's statement with a chuckle. "Dexter," Ally and Aiden yelled in unison. Dex turned towards Declan in time to see her double over. Dex grabbed her and laid her back on the couch and sat back down under her legs and slipped his hand into hers. She calmed again and took a deep breath, "Owen, just go," Declan said. "Fine, I'll be back tomorrow," Owen assured and was escorted out by Pete.
"Is he really you're boyfriend?" Dex asked. "No but he's all I have," she replied with a tinge of bitterness. "What do you mean?" Dex asked confused. "Nothing," she answered trying to keep the bad memories at bay. "Tell me," he begged. "Dex, let her rest. I'm sure it's been awhile since she has," Ally told him. "Not only that, she has no memory of us, we are strangers, why should she talk to us?" Aiden added. "I meant it when I said we could sort all of this out in the morning," Ally said. Dex stared at Declan who was asleep, "I...I shouldve," he stopped. "Don't, we've got her back," Aiden told him calmly.
After a few hours Declan's eyes fluttered when the sound of Dex's phone vibrating on the coffee table, woke her. "Sorry," Dex said picking it up. "It's fine," Declan whispered trying to sit up a little. "Would you like some water?" Ally asked motioning to Pete, who was by the door. "Yes, please," she answered. "How are you feeling?" Ally questioned. "Tired, but ok," Declan replied. "Before you passed out you said, the boyfriend was all you had. Don't you have a family?" Aiden asked. Ally shot him a look, "Um, I do, but we don't talk much," Declan told him uncomfortable and shifting in her seat while still holding hands with Dex.
Pete brought her some water and she took a long sip. Water always made Declan feel replenished. "Why don't they talk to you?" Aiden asked. "Aiden," Ally scolded. "What? We need to get this moving, we aren't doing her any favors by holding back," Aiden scolded back. Ally knew he was right, but she also knew if Declan didn't remember them this could be shocking and scary.
"I mean my parents were afraid of me, I wasn't allowed to do anything, go anywhere. Owen has been my only friend," Declan snapped. "Why were your parents afraid of you?" Ally asked. Declan shrugged, "I create storms when I'm angry, I don't know what it means, but look outside it's getting dark," Declan said frustrated. "It's because you have the ability to manipulate water, all water. You can create storms, and blizzards," Ally paused, "Declan, you are the angel of water," Ally added "I'm not an angel," Declan replied softly, shaking her head. Dex squeezed her hand, "But you are," he whispered. Declan looked into his blue eyes, and suddenly she felt a strong pull, a connection. She was lost in his eyes, like this was home. Aiden looked outside the tall floor to ceiling windows behind his desk as the clouds dispersed. "Wonderful," he smiled excitedly. Dex's hold broke and Declan turned, "What is wonderful?" she asked. "We've been looking everywhere for you. You were lost when we came to earth and we couldn't find you," Ally explained. "What do you mean when we came to earth?" Declan asked. "We are the angels of the elements and we were sent here to help the human race, to protect them from Sawyer and the other demonic forces that try to destroy the world with natural forces, like hurricans, eathquakes, wildfires," Ally went into further detail. "You see, until God comes again we are helping keep the demons from completely destroying this world. I am fire, Aiden is wind, and Dex is earth," Ally finished. "Why does he have to hold my hand?" Declan asked. "The bond between an element and its complementary element is something that Sawyer can't break. Air feed fire and water feeds earth," Aiden chimed in. "What type of bond?" Declan asked nervous. "Um, well, we can save that for another day, we should probably get some dinner and get some rest," Ally replied.
Peter had brought in plates for everyone, "We don't normally eat in my office, but until we figure out what to do about Sawyer's grip on you, I'll make an exception," Aiden joked. Dex's phone suddenly went off again; he picked it up and looked at the message. Declan couldn't help but feel like she was complicating something for him. "You're going to have to deal with her tomorrow," Aiden said taking a bite of his sandwich. Dex didn't answer, "Do you hear me Dexter, we told you she wasn't Declan so tomorrow you need to break it off with her," Aiden repeated. "I understand Aiden, I'm not a child," Dex answered. "You two need to stop," Ally spoke up.
After dinner Ally and Aiden retired to their room and Pete brought some blankets to Declan and Dex. "I'm sorry if I've complicated matters for you," Declan offered an apology. "I knew she wasn't you, deep down," he said and attempted to fall asleep sitting up at the bottom of the couch. It was an awkward position but they didn't want to scare Declan off, they were afraid to leave her alone.
The next morning, Ally opened the door to the office, "Good morning," she greeted. Dex stretched out as his phone went off again. "We have consulted the books and after being in touch for twelve hours, you two should be ok to just be near each other, theoretically of course," she explained. "What books?" Declan asked. "We have a few hand books, to help in emergency situations," Ally joked. "So in an hour we should be ok?" Declan asked. "Yes, roughly 8am," Ally replied cheerful. "Breakfast is done," Aiden announced in the doorway. They walked out of the office and into the dinning room, There was grey wash exposed beams on the ceiling with a glittery Chrystal chandelier , a large black table with grey quilted high backed chairs and a large black breakfast serving buffet on one wall. "I made muffins, easier to eat with one hand," Pete said putting a plate of warm breakfast muffins on the table. "And smoothies," Ally added bringing a tray of glasses.
