Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Ally came home and Pete directed her downstairs. "How was your day?" Ally asked hugging Aiden, who planted a peck on her exposed jawline. "Well, we found out why Sawyer started his attack and I called putting in a good word for Declan to be assistant director of finance at the hospital," Aiden explained. "Oh we'll all work together," Ally cheered. "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to find Dex," Aiden said flashing wide eyes. "I figured we could talk, about the pull you've been feeling," Ally suggested. Declan nodded, "Come, there's a room over here," Ally said walking over to a pair of barn doors and opening them. Inside was what appeared to be a guest room. It looked like a cheerful room, the walls were a soft teal color, a bed with a cloth grey headboard and matching grey accent chairs. There was a white desk and bookshelf in the corner, "Here," Ally said grabbing a book and sitting down in one of the chairs. Declan sat in the other, Ally handed her the book and Declan opened it. It was a photo book, "You were supposed to be my sister," Ally said getting a little emotional. Declan smiled at her, "That was my dad, he did not like Aiden and I getting married so young," Ally laughed. Ally looked the same, like she hadn't aged, in her classy satin, cap sleeved, mermaid style wedding dress. She and Aiden looked completely happy in the photos, her father did look irritated. Declan began to brush her fingers over the photos, it was like she was there. She could feel the warmth and love as family members chatted about what a beautiful couple they made. She could almost feel the excitement Ally was putting off, "Ally," Declan said snapping back to reality. Ally looked at her, "What happened to them?" Declan asked. Ally's face fell, she took a deep breath, "Sawyer used them against me," she answered. "I'm sorry," Declan said kicking herself for asking. "It's ok, I wasn't killing them," Ally replied. "You killed them?" Declan asked. "No, but they don't remember me after killing the demons possessing them," Ally explained. Declan nodded and continued through the book.

"Can I ask you something?" Declan asked stopping on a picture of Ally and Aiden kissing. "Anything," Ally said. "What is this bond?" she questioned looking up at Ally. Ally smiled, "It's the purest form of love. You see human's have corrupted it by assuming love and sex go hand in hand. Have you heard the verse, Love is patient, Love is kind," Ally explained. "Yes," Declan replied rolling her eyes. Who hadn't, it was so often put into wedding ceremonies, that Declan thought it was such a cliche. "So it is that verse exactly, it can be a little difficult to navigate with the human feelings. You will get mad and frustrated, but as long as love always trusts, protects, and perseverse, you will be ok," Ally told Declan. Declan stared blankly, she hadn't really seen that verse beyond a cliche that people broke getting divorced. "Are you ok?" Ally asked. Declan nodded a little, "I know it's a lot to take in, but you and Dex have a stronger pull, because from you two comes life," Ally told a shocked Declan. The pressure felt heavier than every with that statement. "Ally, what happened to me?" Declan asked. Ally paused, "I think it's best if you and Dex, talk about that," Ally answered. Declan was a little let down that Ally wouldn't tell her exactly what happened, but maybe Ally was right. "How do I get my memories back?" she asked. "I don't know. I wish I did, but I can't find anything about that. I think we just have to wait," Ally confessed. Declan nodded and gace Ally the photo album, "Can I have a few minutes alone?" Declan asked. "Sure," Ally answered and left the room heading upstairs.

Ally wandered into Aiden's office, "Is she ok?" Aiden asked. "I don't know, I know she's frustrated not being able to remember," Ally answered sitting on the couch. Aiden got up and walked over to Ally and sat down next to her, "I'm grateful we found her, but I can't help but feel helpless she doesn't remember any of us," Ally said leaning into Aiden. "She will, just wait," Aiden told her so sure of himself. It wasn't long before Dex walked by on a mission and headed down the stairs. He found Declan still sitting in the chair looking at Ally and Aiden's wedding book, "She explained it to you?" His deep voice questioned. Declan looked up, "A little," she replied. Dex felt a little uneasy, "Here," he said handing her a new iPhone. "What's this?" She asked. "I got you a new phone, since we wrecked out old ones," he offered. "Thank you," she said with a smile. She took a deep breath and turned it on, he studied her as she flipped through the new phone, "I don't think they got my number right," she said looking up. He handed her a second phone, "This one is your old number, the iPhone is a new number," he told her. "I don't understand," she said. "The old number is the one your parents and old friends know, we can get rid of it if you want," he offered. "And Owen?" She asked. Dex tensed, "He's only supportive if it brings you closer to him, that's not real support," he answered. Declan stared at the two phones, "I.." She began, "I need to meet with him and tell him face to face, I've made my decision," she finished looking up at Dex, who couldn't help but have a smile on his face. She smiled back, then a flash, she remembered him smiling at her like that, she doesn't know where they were it was to bright. He smiled at her and took her hand and she felt safe, "Declan," he called snapping her back to reality. Her face fell as her eyes darted back and forth, "No, I lost it. I remembered you and I lost it," she cried trying to bring it back. "It's ok," he knelt down in front of her, "Calm down and talk me through what you saw," he said soothing her. She looked into his blue eyes, "We were stand together somewhere, I was nervous," she explained. "Why were you nervous?" He asked. "I don't know," she answered shaking her head. "It's ok, it'll come back," he assured her. "I looked at you and you smiled at me like that and I felt safe," she told him. "You don't have to remember everything all at once," he responded. She was beating herself up inside, "Come on let's get something to eat," he offered. They walked upstairs and into the kitchen where Pete had made wraps. They sat there eating and all Declan could think of was that memory. Why couldn't she bring back more than that? She was frustrated and overwhelmed, "Uh the forecast didn't call for a storm," Aiden said. "Declan, are you ok?" Ally asked. Dex touched her leg, Declan jumped and looked around, they were staring at her. "Are you ok?" Ally asked. "Sorry," Declan said shaking her head. Her old phone tinkled, she picked it up it was a text from her dad, "Owen is worried, where are you?" It read. She texted him back, "I'm at a friends house, I'll talk to Owen," she wrote back. Her dad was really the only one who would message her, since she moved out for college. Her mom set things up for her like the interview and the dorm at the school, but she would rather keep her distance. Declan had learned that and had adjusted to the way her mom kept their relationship, she did give her a pair of pearls at graduation, which Declan felt were special. That was a happier memory, for once her mom wasn't mad at her or hiding her. Declan's mom had hugged her and told her she was so proud of her and because of that moment Declan learned to live with the distance between them. Her sister had always been pushed away from Declan because of the incidents where Declan had gotten mad at Darcy. Declan's dad was the one who tried to understand his daughter, he kept up his worry about her and had no problem showing it. That was one of the only things that gave her a comfort, that he would still message and call her.

After lunch Declan texted Owen, "Please stop calling my parents, I wanna sit down with you," she sent. "When," he wrote back. "Tomorrow?" She answered. "The coffee shop by your dorm at 10am," he sent back. "Fine," she wrote back. She didn't know what to do with her time, "I need to go back to my dorm and get some of my things," she told Ally. "We can do that," Ally replied with a smile. Dex had to go but stayed in the car. They went up to the dorm room, Declan's mom had made sure Declan had a single dorm room to focus on her studies. When Declan unlocked the door and opened it the room was a disaster, "Declan, I know you were sick, but," Ally began. "This wasn't me," Declan answered looking around confused. "Grab what you need," Ally urged and walked around looking for anything she could. Declan grabbed her suitcase from the open closet and started throwing clothes and shoes in it from the floor, she grabbed her toiletries and makeup. Found her laptop and backpack with books in it, "Ok I think that's really all I need," Declan stated. "Let's go," Ally said still skeptical and looking around. Dex got out and put the bags in the back of Ally's forerunner, "What's up?" He asked seeing Ally's worried look. "Her room was ransacked," Ally told him. "What?" He replied shocked. Declan climbed into the front seat, Ally into the backseat and. Dex got in and started the car, "Would Owen?" He asked pulling away. "No," Declan answered, she knew he was just asking. Dex reached over and grabbed her hand, he was getting worried that Sawyer might try and attack her again, "What will make him stop?" She asked as if they were all on the same wave length. "We need to get back, I'll see what I can find," Ally answered her. Dex flashed her a look in the rear view mirror, they already knew what it was, but it was too fast to put that pressure on her. When they got back Aiden had gone to a meeting, Ally and Dex lead the way to a room next to Dex's room, "At least this way you'll be close enough Sawyer shouldn't have any hold on you," Ally assured her before opening the door. It was a bright white room with exposed beams in the ceiling. The decor as a cross between farm house and French country, there was a fake fireplace and an antique armoire stained with a faint grey color and a black metal framed full sized bed with floral bedding. "I'll let you get unpacked," Ally said heading downstairs. Dex laid the suitcase on the grey stained wooden bench at the end of the bed, "You ok?" He asked seeing Declan's face, "It just a lot to take in, my whole life has changed in twenty four hours and I'm not sure how to handle it," she pour out everything. She surprised herself, she wasn't like this she didn't pour out her feelings like this, "I'm sorry," she recoiled. "Why?" He asked. "I shouldn't just dump feelings on you, we just met," she answered. "But we haven't just met," he told her. She keeps forgetting, he stood in front of her so close she could smell that home smell, "I know this is overwhelming for you now, but there will be a time where it won't be," he whispered looking down at her with his electric blue eyes. "I know, I just," she began but he stopped her. "I can feel how anxious you are, relax and give yourself some time," he interrupted. He gently kissed her on her forehead again and that jolt shot threw her again, but it brought with it an overwhelming feeling, she closed her eyes. "Breath," he murmured against her head. She took a few breaths but memories once again danced across her mind, they were too many for her to really focus on one but the sound of his voice seemed to be in every one. "Relax Decs," he whispered. Him calling her Decs, pulled a memory, her face moved towards a memory, it was her and Dexter, "I'll love you forever, Decs" he whispered against her neck, before trailing gentle kisses. Before she could see anymore another memory danced it's way forward, "You can't call her Decs, your nickname is Dex," it was Aiden, they were somewhere she couldn't see. Then another more painful memory, "DECS!" It was Ally screaming and reaching for her, Declan saw herself falling and trying to grab for Ally. Declan's eye shot open, "What?" Dex asked. "Ally was screaming, Decs. We were reaching for each other," Declan relayed the memory. Dex's eyes closed, he knew that memory, it was the one that cause this whole problem to begin with. "Guy, could you come down here please," Ally called from the bottom of the stairs. Dex backed away and looked at Declan who blinked a few times, she nodded and they headed down.

They sat next to each other on one of the over stuffed cream colored couches, Ally and Aiden sat opposite them in the matching couch and Pete in a dark grey accent chair. "Ok, we are pretty sure that Sawyer was in your dorm, so it's a good thing we got you out there," Ally reported. "Unfortunately, that means they could be heading to your parents house," Aiden added. Declan had a million thoughts running threw her head, "I have to go there," she said jumping up. "Decs you can't, you don't have memories back, you haven't been training," Dex began. "They didn't ask for this," Declan argued. Dex grabbed her hand, "I'll go check on them," he offered. "You don't know the house," Declan told him. "Draw a map," Aiden suggested. Declan looked back at Dex, who went to Aiden's office and came back with paper and a pen. "Ok, there's cameras at the front and back entrance," she said as she drew out the house and labeled the doors. It was a crude drawing, but it would work. "You'll have to go down to the training room while we're gone, it's the only place Sawyer can't reach you, when I'm not here," Dex told her. He walked her to the door to the stairs leading to the training room, "Be careful," she whispered. He winked at her and she and Ally headed down the stairs. Declan was nervous and couldn't sit down for the first hour down in the training room, Ally tried to get her to play around turning her flames into ice, and it did get her mind off things for a little while.
