Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Dex's phone when off again, and suddenly Declan was self conscious. Her eyes darted around the room, to stranger's faces. They said she knew them, but she couldn't remember. Her only memories were how bad she felt for being different. She could remember her mother complaining about her hair being black with a tint of blue, "No one in either of our families have that," her mother yelled at her father. It wasnt long after that, they started telling people Declan was adopted, to cover any thoughts of indiscretions. Declan felt a tug on her hand, she looked over, Dex shook his head as if he knew what she was feeling or thinking. Ally cut and buttered a blueberry muffin for her and set it on her plate. Declan watched as the hot muffin melted the butter into every nook and cranny. Declan's phone beeped, she picked it up, it was Owen. "I tried to come over this morning, but I cant remember where the house is?" his text read. Declan took a breath, how was she supposed to ask strangers, if her friend could come over. "Not now," she texted back. Her phone rang, she picked it up to hear a screaming Owen on the other line. He was so loud she couldn't understand him, "Stop," she said in to the phone. "Where the fuck are you? I'm calling your parents," Owen shouted. "Dont call my parents Owen, please," she begged. Dex couldn't handle anymore he took her phone and put it in a glass of water. Declan sat there in shock, "Dexter," Ally scolded, her brow furrowed. Dex looked at Declan, "No one should talk to you that way," he told her calmly. "You cant just ruin my phone, because you dont like who's on the other end," she shot back. "He shouldn't have threatened you," Dex shrugged.

Declan tilled her head to the right and stared at Dex before reaching over him picking up his vibrating iPhone and sinking it in another cup of water. Ally and Aiden gave each other a knowing smile. Dex turned and looked at Declan who picked up her muffin and took a bite. Dex waited for her to finish chewing before asking, "Was that necessary?" Declan picked up her smoothie, "She shouldn't have threatened me," Declan shrugged and took a drink. Dex wanted to yell at her, but her voice when she said that pulled him. This was his Declan, not the scared timid girl with no memory, but this the woman that always dished back what she was given.

After breakfast Ally and Dex took Declan upstairs to shower, "I think if Dex just stands by, you should be ok," Ally assured. She handed Declan a loan of clothes and left them, Dex was now afraid to let her go, what if Ally and Aiden were wrong. "Don't lock the door," he warned her. She nodded meekly and the unlaced their fingers to let go, they stared at each other while she shut the door. Declan started the shower and once it was warm she climbed in. The water didn't have to be warm, in all honesty, it didn't bother her cold or hot. She let the warm beads hit her back, Aiden's couch wasn't comfortable to sleep on at all. She found some body wash, it felt good to wash, not just because of the water, but she hadn't taken a good shower since she got sick. "No," her mind told her. Her eyes popped open, it sounded like Dex. She peeked out from behind the shower curtain and didn't see anyone. She washed her hair and let the water wash over her face. Declan was about to turn off the water, but she wanted to try something, she raised her hand and twisted it. The water droplets danced and twisted whichever way she turned her hand. She giggled, cupped her hand until she had a pool and tossed it in the air twisting her hand to make a tornado as it fell. Declan felt proud of herself, it had been a long time since she played with water, but it didn't feel like she had lost it.

"Declan, Aiden wants us downstairs, are you done?" Dex's deep voice asked as he pounded on the door. "Be gentle," Ally told him scowling as she walked by. "Who says I'm not?" he asked. Ally stopped on the stairs and turned letting out a sigh, "Dex, you need to forgive yourself. She will, once she remembers, so stop beating yourself up and be happy she's back," Ally told him. Dex glared at her, Ally pointed a "mom" finger at him and left for work.

Declan turned the water off and dried off, she pulled out the clothes that Ally had given her. Ripped skinny jeans and a plain black v-neck t-shirt, she quickly put them on, not wanting to leave Aiden waiting. She slipped on the socks and classic black and white converse, Ally had added to the pile. Declan combed out her hair and gave it a quick dry so it wasn't soaking wet, but the roots were still damp. She opened the door, to fine Dex in jeans and a grey t-shirt. She still felt awkward around him, not because he was attractive, but because of the pull she felt to be with him. It wasn't normal, at least in the human world it wasn't and that was what she had been trained to adapt to.

They walked down the stairs and into Aiden's office, "Ah, perfect. Declan I was wondering, do you think you can still control water?" he asked. "I did in the shower," she confessed. "I knew you were playing in there," Dex muttered. She shook her head, she was withdrawing into herself. "Dexter maybe you should go deal with your problem, while Declan and I work in the training room," Aiden offered seeing how hurt Declan was feeling. "I'm not leaving her to train with you, you'll push her to far," Dex rejected. "Pete, maybe you can show Declan down to the training room, while I have a chat with my brother," Aiden said. Declan stood and walked out with Pete, "You can't do this to her, it's not her fault," Aiden told him as soon as the door was closed. "I'm not a child," Dex bit back. "Then stop acting like one. Stop sulking, fix what you broke," Aiden snapped getting up and walking out.

Dex sat there, it wasn't that he was trying to hurt her, he would never. He just didn't know how she was going to handle, the fact that he was the reason she got separated from them and lost her memory. Dex took a deep breath and went down to the basement where the training area was. It was a massive space, like a bunker of an eccentric old billionaire, the walls were dark green colored, metal lights lit up the giant space. There were a few doors and a booth in one of the corners.

This was the first time Declan had been given the freedom to do what she wanted, she didn't know how to begin. She stood there sheepishly before Aiden asked, "What's the matter?" "I've never created it from nothing before," she answered embarrassed. "Get her a glass of water," Aiden shouted at Dex. Dex came out with a small cup of water from the water cooler in the booth. "You don't have to do this today," Dex told her gently. "I'm fine," she snapped at him, taking the water. As soon as Dex was in the booth, she set the cup in front of her and began swirling her hands around the top. The water popped up like an animal playing with it's owner. Declan giggled and soon began passing it from one side to the other like a slinky, but never touching it. "That's wonderful," Aiden cheered over the speaker. "Can you make a storm, from that little bit of water?" he added. Declyn rose half way into the air and her eyes turned blue. There seemed to have been a monsoon, in the room. Heavy rain beat on the glass of the safe room, suddenly thunder and lightning began booming and shaking the safe room. "Uh, ok Declyn go ahead and back it down," Aiden said. The thunder and rain were too loud Declyn couldn't hear, so the rain continued. "You have to stop her," Aiden told Dex. Dex looked over at him, and nodded, he opened the door fought against the rain that was stinging him. He rose the ground to try and protect himself a little from the ever pelting rain. When he reached the spot where Declyn was in the air, he rose himself in front of her with the ground, "Shhh," he said cupping her face with his hands. Declyn stopped and jolted as if someone woke her from a bad dream, she took a gasp. "It's ok," Dex quieted her. Her hands were on his arms as she caught her breath.

Dex put the ground back and they walked back to the safe room, "Can you only create rain?" Aiden asked. "I supposed if I thought of cold I could produce, snow or ice. I never tried, my parents would get mad at me," she explained. "Well, in here you can practice as much as you want, feel free to do whatever you want," Aiden smiled. He thought for a minute, "What if someone were to attack you how would you stop them?" he asked. "I don't know, I," Declyn stopped the memories of almost killing her sister were too much. "What?" Aiden pushed. "I never wanted to hurt anyone," she repeated the mantra from when she was young. "What if they were hurting you?" Aiden said. "Aiden," Dex snapped. "No she needs to figure out how she would protect herself or others," Aiden scolded back. "She doesn't have to figure it all out now," Dex shot back. "If it weren't for you she would have already known how to do all of this," Aiden snapped angrily. All the tension was making Declyn uncomfotable, Dex shook his head, Aiden closed his eyes, "I'm sorry, Declyn," he told her. "I almost killed my little sister, that's why I don't want to hurt anyone," she whispered. It hit Aiden, he knew the guilt Ally carried, "It won't be people we are hurting, Declyn, not real humans," he replied putting his hand on her shoulder. She nodded, "How about a little defence training?" Aiden asked. "That ok with you dad?" he added looking at Dex.

Declan stood back and waited for Aiden to begin. Aiden began, "Declan, you're going to have to fight me off," he told her. "Aiden I don't think," she began but he interrupted her, "Don't think, do what come naturally," he suggested. Dex stood by Aiden just in case, "Ready?" Aiden asked. Declan sighed and nodded. Aiden began with a blowing wind, Declan fought against it. Aiden started creating a funnel with the wind in the clouds, she quickly separated the clouds and the funnle dissipated. Aiden smiled and picked her up in a tornado to see what she would do., "Aiden, stop," Dex called watching Declan getting angry. "Aiden, she doesn't know what to do, stop," Dex yelled again. Declan screamed and ice shards shot everywhere, Dex ran out into the rain throwing his hands up, directing the ground to rise up, trying to block Aiden. Dex jumped on one of the pillars of earth and rose up to meet Declan. He grabbed her, cupping her face with his hands and pulling her face to see him, "Shhh, Declan it's ok," he hushed. Declan began to blink as the storm calmed down, she fell into him over come by the emotions she had remembered to create the storm. Dex wrapped his arms around her there while he lowering the earth back. Once back on solid ground he cupped her face again, "You ok," he whispered. He was so close Declan could smell him, she knew that smell, that was home. He smelled like the earth after the rain, when everything was fresh and new and green again. "Declan," he whispered. She nodded, he kissed her forehead and the moment his lips touched her skin they felt an electricity course threw them joining them. They stayed that way a few minutes but it felt like seconds to them. Aiden sat back pleased with himself, before Dex came walking towards him angry. "You could've killed her," Dex roared. "No Dex, I wouldn't have. You have to trust her and you have to stop only getting close to her when you think she's in danger. Let go of what you did," Aiden pleaded.

He walked out and Aiden let out a sigh, "I'm sorry Declan," he offered. "Why does he do this?" she asked. "He's still beating himself up. He's been looking for you for so long, he wasn't sure he'd ever find you again," Aiden explained. "What happened to me?" she asked. "I'm going to send Ally down, Sawyer can't reach you here," Aiden replied, not wanting to answer her. "Aiden," Declan called as he walked towards the door. "Yeah," he replied turning around. "Why did Sawyer all the sudden attack me?" She asked. "That's a great question," he answered with a pause. "What have you been doing the last few months?" He asked back. "I was in bed with that pain for almost four weeks, but before that I had an interview at the hospital's CEO and Finance director, about a job opening in their finance department, I was hoping that my degree would get me into the assistant directors position," she recalled. "When was your interview?" He continued to question. "Um, January fourth, my mom had set it all up," she replied wondering what this had to do with anything. Aiden's brow furrowed as he was deep in thought, "That was the day we were meeting with the CEO about some financial records that looked odd," Aiden remembered. "Why would that matter to you?" Declan asked. "Dex and I are on the board, we actually have a lot of money invested into that hospital," Aiden explained. Declan's eyes got big, "What time was your meeting?" She asked. "It was a lunch meeting, so about twelve thirty," he answered. "What time did it end?" She continued. "I think about one, Ed, the financial director was quick to get it over with," Aiden replied annoyed at the memory. "My interview was supposed to be at one, but I was told Ed was taking longer than expected," she answered. "That's why Sawyer attacked you, we were so close he knew it was only a matter of time before we ran into each other. Especially if you got that job," Aiden told her.
