Chapter 8 - WAS IT A NAIL CLIPPER?!

Jax stared at Hank in disbelief when the latter asked him to monitor the game and be the judge to punish the loser.

How could he not? Didn't the man himself had something to say like playing a game and whined until Jax agreed to play with them?

Then, why did he delegate some punisher role to him? Was he asking him to role play or what? This man named Hank was definitely some kind of creep.

Was he so confident that Garry couldn't win this game of his? Or was he simply trying to scare the sh*t out of him?

And the most ridiculous part was, the latter said that only one player was needed for this arrangement and that was obviously Garry. So, according to his words, he and his men would literally stand there watching a show, doing nothing.

Jax felt like Hank was targeting both Garry and him at the same time. Didn't he just bump into him, what else did he do to deserve this man's attention?

Thinking about the punishment he had to execute if he did continue to play along, Jax almost felt like slapping himself for zoning out before bumping into Garry, the man whose last name seemed to be 'trouble.'

"We would like to see a nice demonstration of your strength." These were the exact words from Hank while looking at Garry with a meaningful smile. He literally asked Jax to bash the already half dead man into pulp again.

Jax looked at Garry, who was shaking from head to toe as if he were a leaf that had been subjected to cold wind. He then stared down at his own body, which was no bustier than a flagpole.

He suddenly felt an urge to laugh as if he heard the most funniest thing, yet he curbed that urge instantly because Hank was staring at him with his sinister eyes, seemingly waiting for his reply.

"Can you think about the punishment part one more time?" Jax blurted out his thoughts out loud, as he couldn't bring himself to think about beating Garry again.

The latter was already covered in bruises from head to toe, from the beatings he received from Hank's minions, and if he were to suffer one more bashing, Jax was afraid that Garry wouldn't be able to get up for the next few days, or even die, in the worst case

Even though Jax asked Hank to rethink about this, he wasn't sure that he would actually do so.

However, to everyone's surprise, Hank nodded his head as if giving Jax's words a second thought, yet when he opened his mouth again, he said something bewildering which left Jax perplexed.

"In that case, why don't we change into something more exciting since he has been avoiding me?" Hank said in a thoughtful manner, that left people thinking like he had come up with a much better option than the previous one.

But the sinister gleam in his eyes said otherwise.

Jax felt like he was just delaying the inevitable, because from Hank's words, it was as clear as a day that they were going to bash this pitiful man again. Just like how they did to him last week. But the question was; why was Jax being dragged into the middle of this?

And what exactly did this Garry do to Hank, in order to incur his wrath?

"Wh- what?"

While all sorts of questions were busy drilling his head, Jax heard a tiny voice from behind him and he turned around to face the owner of the voice.

Those words were spoken by none other than Garry, who had been silent all this while without even making the smallest of sounds.

Hearing his words, Hank eyes shone with mischief before he said in a light tone. "Oh yeah, it's about the game! What do we call it again? The game where the challenger spreads his fingers over a hard surface and...."

"Pinfinger boss!" one of his minions, a burly man with weird piercings supplied the name generously.

"Yes, yes! Pinfinger. It's a very simple game." Hank almost looked like he was going to clap his hands as if he were a kid who won some kind of lottery.

Garry on the other hand, seemed to be genuinely confused after hearing the dramatic introduction and the title of the game.

However, Jax, who knew what kind of game this man meant, was perplexed as several glimpses flashed in his mind. Some were harmlessly childish while the others were brutally bloody.

Hank's minion had given out the most simple name of the game which was actually well known as a knife game. Some even call it stabberscotch. But the most commonly used name was 'stab between the fingers game.'

As Hank said, it was a very simple game if they just made the player play with some kind of stick or the eraser part of the pencil, which wouldn't do much to the latter's fingers even if he missed his rhythm and stabbed himself instead of the gap in between his fingers after spreading them out on a hard surface.

However, if they made him use a knife, things would get bloody and there were instances where people lost their fingers while playing this game.

Jax thought that the second case scenario would be most unlikely to happen here, since it was next to impossible even to bring a safety pin into this highly secured prison, not to mention an actual knife.

They could find a thin wooden stick at most. So, Garry should be fine as long as his hand kept up the required rhythm.

Meanwhile, one of the other inmates under Hank's control, explained the game to Garry and hearing his explanation, Jax crossed the possibility that things would get nasty or even bloody.

However, when Hank stretched out his hand toward his men, one of them placed a small shiny steel thing into it.

What!? Was it a nail clipper?
