Jax head buzzed from hearing their unreasonably ruthless words thus he just chose to stare at the main protagonist of this debacle, Garry, absent-mindedly. The latter hadn't been able to stop shivering from the moment the knife was placed in his hand.
Jax didn't know what pushed Garry, but when the latter finally teared his eyes away from the knife, a murderous glint appeared in them, as he alternated his gaze between Hank and the said knife.
Jax hoped that whatever that was running in Garry's mind was not anything related to the emotion impulsiveness.
Yet, Jax was proven wrong just in the next second.
When Hank and his men were busy gloating at the man's sorry figure, which wouldn't stop trembling as if he were placed in an oscillator, Hank saw something flash from the corner of his eyes, the very flash of a slashing knife.
As for Jax, when he saw the murderous glint in Garry's eyes, he was yet to recover from the shock he just received after hearing the brutal suggestions made by those inmates.
Thus, even before the thought of stopping Garry could fully form in his mind, Jax saw the latter pouncing upon Hank with the folding knife aimed right at the rougish man's heart.
Everything happened in the matter of a few seconds, but the blood bath that Jax thought would be inevitable did not happen as Hank dodged the attack swiftly which almost sent Garry tripping onto the ground face first, from the momentum of the force he used to pounce upon him.
However, he quickly regained his footing before turning sideways to face Hank and brandished the knife at him again. And, because the gap between them was much smaller compared to the earlier attack, Garry got successful in harming Hank, who didn't manage to dodge it the second time.
A knife cut as long as one's index finger bloomed on Hank's left upper arm, and blood dripped down instantly.
On the other hand, the men under him were caught off guard by the unexpected attack from the seemingly harmless and gullible Garry.
After some time, they finally came to their senses when they caught sight of the bloody gash on their boss' hand, and tried to stop Garry, who raised his hand to attack once again.
Even the guards, who had been busy turning blind eye to whatever harm befell on Garry so far, and standing at least a good twenty metres from them earlier, were now rushing forward to prevent this chaos became a living hell.
The irony of the situation left Jax dumbfounded, as he watched the scene unfolding in front of him in utter disbelief.
Garry, who saw them approaching him, made a quick slashing movement, successfully keeping them at bay.
"Young man, you should drop the weapon in your hands, now," warned one of the guards as he raised the baton in his hand, pointing to the knife in Garry's hand.
For this, the guard was awarded with a murderous glare from Garry before he could make any attempt to approach the latter.
"Calm down Garry, now stop playing with all these diligent guards and listen to them like the good boy you are," Hank said in a light tone, as if this was all nothing serious and he wasn't the one who almost got killed.
He didn't even furrow his eyebrows when Garry slashed his hand, as if it didn't even hurt him, though the wound didn't stop bleeding until this moment.
However, Garry didn't start shaking at his words like he would always do, but his grip around the knife tightened even further, as he looked at Hank defiantly.
His eyes wouldn't leave Hank's movements, which kept him preoccupied and successfully given a chance to one of the rougish man's men to tackle him from behind. Even so, he struggled with all his might just to keep holding onto the knife as if it were his only lifeline.
At this point, he seemed to be driven by pure adrenaline rush, and he was using all of his energy just to fight back.
However, Garry was weak to begin with, as he was yet to recover from his severe injuries from the last week's incident. Thus, it didn't take long for the burly man to exhaust his energy fully, which was followed by the obvious, yet another severe bashing.
The ten or so people, who were gathering around them under Hank's command, cornered him, as if to squish the very life out of him. And Hank, the injured boss of theirs stood as arrogantly as ever with his trademark weird smile on his lips.
Blood from the slash he got from Garry, dripped onto the ground forming into a mini pool. However, he didn't even seem to care as he left it alone as much as not even giving it a second look. It wasn't like he looked at it when he got it, though.
On the other hand, Garry's eyes didn't leave Hank's arrogant figure, just as they didn't stop drilling imaginary holes in the latter's heart, even though it looked like that he was breathing his last.
Meanwhile, before he could die for real, the guards intervened and stopped the rougish man's men before dragging Garry away with them.
Jax watched all of these happenings with mixed feelings as he stood along with the other inmates, who had been busy watching the show from the start to the end, without showing as much as a slight flicker of emotion in their eyes.
Jax realized that none of them even bothered about the sight of a dangerous weapon inside the prison, as if everything that was happening was normal and nothing was wrong with the way of the turn of events.
Was prisoner holding possession of a weapon, also a common affair in here? Just like a bunch of people beating a single man, he witnessed last week?
