Chapter 26 - Ch.26: Vision

Em

I swoop down into the trees following the scent of the herd from earlier.  Lightly landing behind the brush that separates the woods to the meadow the herd is grazing. I retract my claws to lessen the sound of my stalking. Peeking through the brush to find my next victim. Fortunately, my victim didn't hear me, landing near her, but before I get to launch my attack, a vision invades my sight.

I'm running, bouncing off trees that are in my way. I hear heavy breathing, me breathing. I seem to know where I'm going, and I find out when I stop at a clearing, filled with fog, near the wall of a mountain a pile of rocks that create a formation of a pillar of strange signs, a sign that looks familiar. My mind races through my knowledge of our language, Hebre'ion. It hits me… The translation is our family name, Nu'e. Our given dragon name that, without showing our dragon hearts, represents our rank or class.

The vision lets me go, the image of those words burned into my brain. I breathe heavily as if I've been holding it for a few moments. This had never happened before. I've never had any vision but I've heard it's rare. But the off thing is that… Someone had to send you the vision. And they have to be nearby as well… From what I know.

I forget about my prey and sprinting into the clearing, scaring all the deer as they run into the trees. I force my wings to carry me as fast as they could to Sam. I feel my stomach lurch as I land hard against the stone. Putting the fire out, wisps of smoke glide away from me. Next to Sam's food that I delivered, Sam jumping away from me. I couldn't tell if it was the wind that I created or from my sudden appearance.

Emberlynn?! You alright? I hear her fear in my mind. I shake my head slightly, I haven't had the time to think clearly about what happened. I come closer to Sam, not wasting any time to show her what happened. I put my head down, towards her.

Put her head against mine. Please make haste. I say quickly looking towards her. Having a physical connection when sharing a memory is easier to do than at a distance, it takes more energy and concentration. I feel certain when I see Sam not question my plea and she does as she was told. Her barriers come down quickly and my mind disperses into hers and my memory of the vision floods her mind. I see it too. I replay it in hers as in mine.  I try to memorize the landscape so I know where to go. As the vision ends again, I feel my lungs start burning, I instinctively breathe in but I realize the Sam was holding it. I get that she knows this place, her hair covers her face. I can't be certain about how she feels now. I just get little bits of it as she had brought her barriers up. She moves her head from mine and we raise them to look at each other.

Sam… I feel a wave of recognition from her. She looks at me, right in the eyes and I get that familiar peacefulness that envelops me every time those eyes see me.

I know that place… I… I think it was in a dream, or I think so. It was so real. She was really quiet for a bit. She stands up straighter and I move to stay level with her.

I need to get to the nearest city. I don't know where we are. But we need to get back to Payson. Her voice sounds determined. She makes it clear that she's not ordering around but suggesting. She walks to the edge, ignoring the corpse near her.

Are you fit to fly, you haven't eaten anything yet. Remembering the place where the fire sat, now only pieces of burnt wood. She notices her hesitate, maybe she is hungry. After seeming to make a decision, she shakes her head.

We need to go, Em. I can't remember where it is but I'll find out. I need to find out. So we need to go, we'll just go home and you'll stay hidden. We can do this. You have to trust me, Em. Please… She sounded so adamant, I had almost mistaken it for a plea. I nod, instinctively,  closing my eyes and lowering my head simultaneously. I try to read her emotions, I can only sense the feeling of relief. Hopefully, my mother leaves us alone long enough to find out.
