'What do you mean?'
Alex saw the laptop and opened it.
'On my way here, I saw cameras too good for this place.'
As the monitor opened, it showed six men in the same military uniform as before, rushing towards the door. The door was kicked down, and the moment the men entered the room, they opened fire.
'Quick to the kitchen.'
All of them carried assault rifles, each with a silencer on it. They showed no restraint in openly firing them and had the silencer muffle the noise. They took full advantage of the construction site and fired without worrying anyone would notice.
The soldiers moved towards the kitchen. Alex found a gun in a drawer and took cover behind a table with Jason, aiming at one.
'They're coming. Get your gun ready.'
'We must not shoot.
'What?'
'It will make too much noise.'
Jason's worries didn't fit the current situation.
'I think our life is more important than disturbing the neighbors.'
'If we fire, the noise will be too loud. Someone from the public might notice and come here.'
The men had taken their positions and threw in a smoke grenade before going into the kitchen. The dire situation turned around when Alex felt something hard on the table.
'Then, we just have to improvise.'
One soldier took the initiative and went in. As the soldiers stepped in, a raw potato came flying, hitting his face with full force.
'That one is going to leave a mark.'
Soon after, potatoes, onions, knives, and forks came flying out of the kitchen, which made surprisingly good ammo and managed to drive them back enough that two were out of the apartment. The smoke prevented the soldiers from seeing Alex projecting his deadly bullets.
This change of fire continued for a while, but suddenly, it stopped from the kitchen. The armed forces thought they had run out of ammo, but two potatoes came flying as soon as one stepped into the living room, proving them wrong.
'Any ideas, Jason? Because I am almost out of ammo.'
The smoke was starting to fade, and it only a matter of time until the soldiers raided the kitchen. Should they escape while they still had the chance? But that would mean leaving all that valuable evidence behind. Jason couldn't make up his mind.
'If only we had silencers, then we could have easily tackled them.'
An idea sparked into Alex's mind.
'Then we just have to make some, get me some time.'
Alex grabbed his last ammo, the two soda cans, and a knife, and started working.
Basically, when a gun fires a bullet, scorching hot gases are emitted with the shot. These gases react with the atmosphere, creating a loud bang. A suppressor simply gives time for the hot gases to cool down.
Using that fundamental principle, Alex gulped both of the soda can and the carved one side of the gun's mouth into it. After some slight adjustment and modification, the Soda silencer came into existence.
'Done.'
'What are these?'
'Soda silencers.'
'Do you think this kind of cheap toy will work?'
Jason could barely keep them at bay as they had started to advance forward. It wasn't assuring if the time he had spent was used to make this.
'It's better than nothing. And I'll make them work.'
The entire mouth of the gun was covered, eliminating any way to aim. As no more potatoes or knives were being thrown out, the soldiers moved into the living room.
Alex tried to aim purely on imagination. He imagined where the front sight would be and aligned it with the rear sight. He felt a positive feeling rising from within and griped the trigger, pulling it. A burp appeared at the same time the pin struck the cartridge, making him miss his target. The noise made was the same as those of the automatic gun, which was more than enough.
'Let's go, Jason.'
He gave Jason the signal and rushed out of the kitchen. Jason followed suit. They fired their guns and managed to take out 3 of 6 soldiers. The remaining retreated back outside of the apartment. A sense of victory lasted momentarily as Alex unarmed the men.
'You have done well, Alex.'
The voice made him pause. A shade of white hair and amber eyes got to the front door, revealing himself. He was surprised yet proud that they had managed to find him so quickly.
'Watson.'
Alex took aim. A soldier threw in a smoke bomb before he could fire. Alex shot relying on his memory but ending up air.
'I do not like uninvited guests in my home, so please leave.'
Something else was quietly rolled in the already smoke-filled room. One of them touched Jason's feet, and he instantly realized what it was.
'Alex! Get out. It's a grenade.'
They both made a run for it. Alex tried to grab some of the test tubes and ran to the kitchen. A wave of bullets came soaring, and one penetrated Alex's shoulder, making him drop the test tubes.
They crashed through the window as Jason maneuvered himself down. Alex jumped out moments before the explosion. His shirt was crimson red from the injury.
Everything in the apartment was destroyed, and the men inside the apartment died.
--Is he human?
Jason was infuriated by how calmly Watson sacrificed his men.
'He will not be coming here anymore too. The incident will probably be regarded as a gas explosion. I will try to find his location until then recover yourself, Alex.'
Jason's voice was disappointing.
'A little help in that.'
Alex felt the numbing pain from getting shot. Jason deftly tore off a piece of Alex's shirt and tied it around his shoulder while applying pressure.
'We have to disinfect the wound.'
They made got out of the alley and made it to the crowded streets. Jason worried Alex might lose too much blood, but the wound had clotted to his amazement. Alex moved his arm with ease. His healing abilities were more impressive than Jason thought.
'Today's mission ended unsuccessfully.'
Jason accompanied him to the park.
'Why? Even if we couldn't manage to grab anything, you did manage to take pictures'
'The pictures are not of much value. It only showed chemicals and equipment inside the apartment, not what are they for, and they are willing to destroy them instead of letting us know.'
According to Jason, this mission was a failure. His voice veiled that it was something he was not used to.
