Chapter 42 - Because of the quarantine

Sounds of large and heavy footsteps come closer and closer, like an elephant running on its back legs.

'I cannot pinpoint the location.'

They were in a hallway, and no door was seen nearby. Jason placed his ear against the wall from where the sound seems to be the loudest.

'Look out!'

Alex pushed him away from the wall as a humongous beast smashed through it. The creature looked like an extraordinarily bulky mutant man.

All his limbs were huge. A fully-grown man would look like a boy compared to him. With a height of about roughly 9 feet, it was a monster straight out of a movie with his body covered in thick black hair to boot.

'Alex!'

His eyes landed on Alex, and threw an unexpectedly blistering punch. Alex was barely able to guard thanks to his superhuman reflexes. The impact was strong enough to send him flying and hit the buildings' wall hard.

--I didn't think it would be this powerful.

Alex didn't have any time to think.

As Alex got up, the beast quickly charged straight for him like a bull. Alex dodged him at the last moment as the creature broke through the wall. The animal didn't even notice Jason.

'What was that?'

'Someone who obviously doesn't give a shit about walls. Damn, I think my left arm broke from the impact from his punch.'

Alex was stretching his arm, which was still healing.

'We cannot let that thing rampage. We have to contain it.'

They ran outside to follow the noise. Alex climbed up a tree to get a better view of the area. He was hearing the noise but couldn't see where the beast was, on intuition he said,

'Hey, where are you, you Hairy Hulk?'

'Right here!'

Alex instantly felt a violent sensation behind him and saw the hairy hulk with a grin.

--How did he-

Alex was standing on a branch 5 meters above the ground. He was surprised at how the Hairy Hulk got there. There was no way he could have stood on a branch with his size and weight.

The only possible way is that he Jumped 6 meters high.

Alex locked his feet on the branch and hung upside-down, almost getting hit by the Hairy Hulk huge fist that hit the tree's trunk instead. The top side of the tree trunk was blown away from the power.

'How strong is he?'

Alex descended from the branch and sprinting away as fast as possible with the Hairy Hulk being right behind him. Jason shot a rubber bullet to divert his attention, yet his focus remained glued on Alex. He was shockingly agile for his size. Alex did skillful maneuvers and sharp cuts, but the Hairy Hulk didn't lose sight of him.

'I've had it with you.'

Alex stopped running and turned around to face him head-on.

'Let's see what you got.'

Alex jumped to get to the same height as the Hulk and did a roundhouse, getting a clean hit to his side. The Hairy Hulk received the full blow yet didn't even budge.

--Impossible! That kick is strong enough to send a 100-pound sandbag flying.

The Hairy Hulk grinned at Alex's pathetic attempt.

'Is that all you got?'

He grabbed Alex's leg.

--Shit!.

He smashed Alex on the ground then threw him in the air as if he was a doll. Alex grabbed a branch and stayed up.

'Fighting him head-on was a really bad idea, I can't overpower him.'

The Hairy Hulk punched down the tree whose branch Alex was on. The tree fell down, and the Hairy Hulk rampaged in on Alex. Jason shot an electric bullet, giving an intense shock and enough time for Alex to get away.

'Any idea on how to contain him?'

Jason loaded his gun again.

'By contain, I meant we need him alive. Him being injured is trivial.'

Jason shot an actual lead bullet aimed at the beast's leg, but it only managed to graze him. The creature exploited the night and used his dark body to move around, matching the night's dark shade. Jason emptied an entire magazine with no hits.

The Hairy Hulk ripped off an entire tree from its roots to use it as a shield and as a weapon, swinging it like a bat. Jason and Alex ducked as it went above.

'I've got an idea, Jason. Come on.'

Jason and Alex dashed out of the forest and ran towards a cliff. The Hairy Hulk ignored Jason and kept on following Alex as Alex ran to the edge of the cliff and stopped. One more step and he would fall.

'Nowhere left to run.'

The Hairy Hulk closed in the gap between him and Alex.

'Speak for yourself.'

The Hairy Hulk looked backed to see Alex standing behind him, and the one he chased was Jason, who had his jacket on. Alex then jumped high and stomped the ground hard enough that it cracked. The edge of the cliff broke apart, taking the Hairy Hulk and Jason down with it.

Jason pulled out his gun and shot an anchor to the side and propelled himself steadily, climbing back up.

'Well, that takes care of that. Nice job, Jason.'

The battle was believed to have ended when the terrain again started to tremble.
