Despite this, all was not lost. The tracker was destroyed, but there was another. An incredibly tiny tracker that was placed on Hikaru as a backup.
That tracker was small enough to be practically invisible to the naked eye. However, that one did not have all the functions the larger one did. All the tiny one provided was the location, which was 90% precise.
The hacked cameras now came in handy, but as soon as Jason switched over to them, he found out all of them were turned off. Not a single one functioned.
--This will be troublesome.
He watched the dot on the digital map with his phone to see where Hikaru headed. As soon as Hikaru entered a particular area, the red dot vanished from the map.
'Are the signals being interfered with?'
It was clear that Jira expected this and was well prepared. Jason feared what was going to come.
The teachers and the Principal were praising Alex. Some students envied him, some were amazed, and others wondering how did it happen? Finally, the announcement.
'I would like to call Alexander Dean to come on stage and receive his award.'
With a round of applause, Alex got up the stage and received the "Student of the Year" award from the principal. The photographer had just started to take pictures when suddenly, the hall went dim.
The hall, lit up by the chandeliers, was now being illuminated only by the moonlight coming from the windows, and everyone was having trouble adjusting to the new light.
'What's going on?'
'A power outage, maybe?'
The Principal said, judging the situation.
'Everyone stay calm.'
He saw the students had started to feel uneasy. Jason saw that the red dot had appeared again on the map.
'Where did you go?'
'It's most likely to be a power outage or a blown fuse. I will send a teacher to check it out, so don't worry.'
'Sir, I smell something strange in the air.'
A student raised his hand, sniffing and breathing the air.
'It's like a strange chemical.'
'Me too.'
Another said.
'Me too.'
The chemical which the students were inhaling quickly spread out and covered the entire hall and put everyone in a drunk like state. Within moments everyone was out stone cold.
Everyone except Alex, who expected something like this to happen.
--Good thing we brought gas masks.
Alex didn't need them as the chemical didn't have any effect on him. Drowsiness took over him for a moment. However, that was the end of it.
'Jason, it's happening.'
Alex spoke into a wireless earbud, which he fixed in his ear.
'Do you see him around?'
'Yes. He is on his way towards the hall.'
Jason responded, looking at the red dot on a digital map.
--Wait, he is starting to move fast, too fast.
He saw the red dot now moving like it was on fire.
--An average person cannot move this quickly.
'Alex, be ready. He is coming in hot.'
--So, he finally transformed.
Alex could hear giant footsteps, each which shook the ground underneath, coming toward the hall's entrance door.
A beast-like creature that looked like that if the Hulk and a Gorilla were to fall in love, he would be the result. The "Hairy Hulk" burst through the door.
It scanned the hall, and as soon as he saw Alex, hurled a chair towards him as if it was made of paper. Alex, knowing that he can't dodge it because if he did, the chair might hit someone else, grabbed it with both hands, which was thrown at him at a ridiculous speed.
'Heading to the gym every day, are we, Hikaru?
--I think I broke a bone somewhere.
Alex gave a wry smile. He stretched his hand to relax them, which were now trembling due to the aftershocks.
'Now then, let's get started.'
Alex put on his game face and was now ready to start the mission.
'Jason, it's okay if you couldn't get the chemicals before he transformed. Just tell me how long do I need to stall him for you to get the reverse serum?'
'Um… as long as possible. The first tracker was destroyed, and the second tracker's signals were interfered with. I only have a vague idea where the reverse serum might be.'
'...…'
'...…'
There was a moment of silence. A tiny fear of death seeped into Alex.
'Alex!'
Hikaru ran towards the stage. Alex ran towards him, sliding underneath.
'Am I a joke to you?
'Stall him until I search the area. There might be a secret passage which leads to the serum.'
'Please tell me you're lying. It's to confuse the enemy, right?'
Alex's motivation to carry out his own plan diminished. Hikaru punched Alex with his fist, which he guarded. Alex was more durable now. This time, the blow didn't send him flying, but still managed to push him back.
'I am counting on you, Alex.'
'Alex!'
Hikaru punched him again. Alex dodged it and raced out of the hall. Hikaru was right behind him. He grabbed one of the entrance doors, pulling it apart, and threw it.
'Whoa!'
Alex jumped as the door flew beneath him.
'I Am Going To Kill You!'
'You're gonna have to catch me first, Hikaru.'
Alex stuck out his tongue to provoke him more. He began jumping and stretching to warm up his body. Hikaru smirked and took a running position. He then sprinted faster than any human and headed straight towards Alex.
'Is it just me, or did he take running classes?'
Alex thought he could easily outrun him, but now he was not so sure. His body told him, "RUN!"
