Chapter 30 - From now on

Jason's story sounded sketchy, to say the least. But not any sketchier than what Alex has already been through. After learning what Jason told him, Alex wanted to join. He agreed for the sake of keeping Alex under supervision. He couldn't just lose a getaway superhuman.

The next day, they went to the zoo to investigate a man from Jira and reveal his identity. Their job was to implant tiny cameras all over the place to expose the man.

'Hey, I know you said you can't leak too much information but isn't Jira a health organization? Is it that bad if some guy is collecting animal DNA?'

Alex tried to make small talk while working.

'Have you ever tried searching for Jira on the internet?'

'I did. Though I never found anything useful.'

Alex didn't think that was weird. Dr. Watson had told him that this was a secret project hidden from the world until it was ready.

'You have answered your own question. If it was just a health organization, WS would never get involved.

'And what exactly is WS?'

Jason preferred if Alex kept his inquisitiveness silent but seeing he was already deeply involved, he would eventually find out. He only gave the information he thought was necessary to gain his trust.

'Something whose job is to eliminate those who pose a threat to world peace.'

The man had no pattern to collect the animal DNA sample, nor to his visits. One day, he would come and collect a crocodile's sample, then another day, he would be interested in an ostrich.

His timings were irregular, making it impossible to know when and from which animal he would take a DNA sample. The guy is undoubtedly cunning. Not only would he choose an unpredictable time, but also wouldn't let anyone near him.

Jason observed that the man would travel with a ring of at least 12 people. Every time Jason tried to come close, the 12 people stopped him. The crew of people would change every time the man visited the zoo, making it impossible for Jason to know who is with him and who isn't.

Every time he or somebody else who supposedly was not part of the group tried to come near the man, a crowd would rush out of nowhere to conceal the man, making sure nobody got to him. The only thing that would not change was the zoo. He would always only pick this one.

The reason couldn't be found, but his habit of visiting this particular place was constant.

'This might be a dumb question, but can't you just arrest the guy using your authority or something? Judging by what you say, WS seems pretty powerful.'

Jason gave a sigh. His face said it all "If only life was that simple."

'Interesting how you used the word "authority." I can arrest or even murder this person using my authority without any problem. WS is influential as you believe, and so are the people related to it.'

'Am I related to WS in any way?'

'No.'

Jason coldly replied.

'You and that man are related to Jira, and I have 2 reasons to not murder or arrest him:

1. Murdering him will not give any intel on Jira.

2. Unless I place him in WS cell after arresting him, Jira will most certainly have him out in the next hour.

Jira is gaining power rivaling countries so-'

Jason's senses told him something was wrong. He glanced back to see Alex was missing.

'Alexander?'

He looked around to see if Alex was nearby.

--Did he get separated? When?

Jason heard a faint voice from the back of a nearby cage and instantly recognized the voice.

'Come on, even though it might be funny, it's still not nice.'

'Alexander.'

Furiously, Jason called him.

'Oh, hi, Jason. I was just having a chat with these bears'

'This is not the time to-'

WS agents are trained to process every information before speaking. As such, it hit Jason.

'You…can converse to bears'

He was dumbfounded.

'Yeah, sure. It's not hard once you understand the frequency, pitch, facial, and hand expression.'

The brown grizzly which was leaning towards the cage also nodded in response to what Alex said.

Alex could see on Jason's face that albeit he was stern and angry, behind all that, an amazed child was saying, "That is so cool!"

When Jason and Alex were implanting the cameras near the bears' cage, Alex saw that the bears were laughing. Jason paid no attention to them and continued supposedly talking to Alex. However, after a minute of listening, those grunts and ruffs magically began to be understood as elementary and primitive words.

Jason walked on ahead, thinking Alex was behind him. Words slowly became sentences and, finally, an entirely understandable conversation. The first sentence that Alex fully understood was, "That fellow is stupid."

The bear pointed his paw towards Jason, who was busy implanting cameras, making the other bears laugh. Alex called out to bears and had a surprisingly pleasant conversation.

'You want to know what they are saying?'

Alex smugly said after seeing through Jason's poker face.

Jason gave a fake cough.

'No, I do not.'

He gathered his composure and scolded Alex.

'You tell me what holds more importance, those creatures, or this mission.'

He took a deep breath.

'I am going on ahead, join me if you wish.'

Jason walked away, mumbling to himself.

'I should not have brought him here.'

'Hey, what do you think is going to happen to him?'

One of the bears answered Alex's question with a grunt.

'Yeah, me too. Well, I have to make sure that doesn't happen to him, bye bears.'

Alex waved goodbye to the bears and went to join Jason as they waved back.

'Hey Jason, hold up and just, so you know, they were making fun of you.'

'I do not care.'
