Chapter 7 - SINGLE TEAR

She would've called it a magnificent piece of artwork, like one of those a great painter such as Da Vinci would've created. Although she doubted he would have been able to capture the rich essence of such a scene.

It seemed to last forever. But all things must come to an end, eventually.  The sky around her darkened. What had been so beautiful just moments ago, slowly became an endless ocean of blood and chaos.

One of the armies seemed to be prepared for battle. They wore thick armor, possessed larger weapons, and odd contraptions. I had never seen anything like it. They were organized and seemed to have a strategy, and yet the unprepared army appeared to be beating them.

Weapons clashed, creatures roared. You couldn't identify the direction from which any sound came from.

Some survived the initial charge and continued to fight above the heavy clouds. Others struggled against their rivals. The remaining warriors bled as they sunk into the depths of the darkened sky.

Two figures seemed to stand out among the crowd. One from each army. I assume they were the leaders, and enemies to each other.

Without a warning my body acted out. I began making my way toward one of them. Apparently flying, through the battlefield. Waving through soldiers and dodging swinging swords.

"Michael!" I shouted. Whatever reason we were looking for 'Micheal' it had to be urgent if we were risking ourselves this much to meet them. "Micheal! Where are you! We need to talk!"

Scanning the battlefield I spot one of the two leaders. He was about to swing his sword at a soldier.

"Micheal!"

He bore large wings, the color of dirt. Hair of sand and skin like quartz crystal. Swiftly I swung my weapon at his side. Michael winced at the pain a little; holding his side for a few seconds. Micheal recovered quickly  and came at us with a wide swing with his sword. I dodged. Grabbing his arms tightly we locked eyes.

"Michael! You've got to listen to us! You've got to listen — This is not the way! I know how this will end. We all do!"

Frantically Micheal broke free from my grip, thankfully we saw this coming and we flipped him and imprisoned him with a choke hold.

The sky rumbled.

Micheal struggled in our grip, "You're stronger than you look, Tephras!"

"We don't have to fight Micheal! If you call it off, we can speak to father! None more shall be hurt!"

"We both know that's not possible. He won't see any of you."

"That's ridiculous! There's no way we haven't caught his attentio–"

A faraway voice called out, "No! Tephras! Get away from him!"

But it was too late… Micheal had broken free. He turned. Flapped his wings and… The sky thundered. Lightning flashed all around. The sky cried. And trillions of raindrops dropped from the heavens.

We fell. Just like dozens of others all around. Unable to move at all. Exhausted. Defeated. Closing our eyes might not be such a bad idea… I felt as light as a feather. Then heavy. I cracked open one eye, then the other. Above me a familiar face.

Claude?

"I-lm sorry." We apologized weakly.

"Tephras! Don't say that! Stay with me! Don't you dare close your eyes on me!"

"M-my memories." We smiled, "Take them — Give them to all the whirlwinds, tornados, and storms. To all the hurricanes, typhoons, and gales. For that is who I am, and forever will be…

"I'm so sorry!" Claude wept.

"The swift winds of heaven"

A single tear formed in my eye, and rolled down my cheek. Then another, and more. Until I was full on crying.
