"Hut hut!" I yelled at my friends. My eyes lingered over their figures as they stood rooted to their spots, the front of their shoes pressed against freshly cut grass.
"Go." I added only to see the football being through my way. The moment my eyes landed on it, my hands moved forward to catch on an impulse. Years of practice, combined with my heightened senses only served as an advantage for me when it came to playing this gruesome game.
Instead of who was able to score more points, it was rather a game to show who was more powerful. And I had no lack of power.
"Michael, go long." I yelled at him as I made a run in the other direction, my eyes never wavering off his running figure as he made a run to the other goalpost.
My eyes shifted for the briefest of seconds to the others who were running towards me. A couple of yells blared into my ears as they yelled at each other to stop me. It was a part of our daily routine. Every time they'd give it their all to tackle me down. Even after multiple failed attempts they refused to give up.
My eyes moved back to Michael who was now waving his hands at me. I gave the others a mocking smirk before retracting my hand back as I readied myself to throw the ball in his direction. The ball was about to slip through my fingers when I saw Michael's gaze losing its focus. I wondered what was more important.
When I realized that he was looking past me, I couldn't help but look over my shoulder only to end up frowning. A girl was standing close to the goalpost with her hands folded across her chest as she tapped her foot on the grass below. The sun was burning in all of its glory behind her, which prevented me from seeing her face. But it only took me a while to recognize the white locks which were dangling by the side of her face as the air brushed past her.
I couldn't stop myself from frowning as a couple of questions popped in my head. What was she doing here? We have barely parted our ways a little earlier because I had to leave with my friends for practice. What was so important which couldn't wait an hour? Too lost in my own thoughts, I failed to notice that my speed was becoming relatively slow and the football was no longer in my hand.
It was only when a couple of figures rushed into me, tackling me down to the ground, that I realized it.
"Ugh!" I let out a groan. It wasn't because the weight of their bodies resting over mine hurt me in the slightest. It was rather out of annoyance that I groaned.
"Are you okay?" I heard her voice first before her face into my line of sight. She was standing next to my head as she leaned heard forward to have a better look at me.
I don't know how, but despite my annoyed state, I was able to give her a bright smile as I nodded my head. Before I could hear her response, I felt something move over me. One after the other, the boys moved away. Their steps came to a stop next to my figure which was still lying down on the floor. Their eyes set on me and I could sense them jumping from me to Amara and the back to me.
I wondered why nobody bothered to extend his hand towards me and helped me in getting up. It wasn't like they were going somewhere to give the two of us some privacy.
"Are you alright?" I heard her voice once again which made me shift my attention to her.
"Oh, yeah!" I replied to her. I was about to get up on my own as the others refused to help me with it when I saw a delicate hand being extended towards me. I moved my eyes to the owner, and couldn't stop my lips from curling up once again. I grabbed her hand as I pulled myself up. I was careful of my moments though as not to pull her down with me. But it seemed she was powerful enough to handle me.
"Thanks." I mumbled softly before my eyes trailed to the group of annoying flies which refused to step back and give us some space. All of them had their eyes glued to us, waiting for God knows what.
Turning a blind eye to them, I decided to focus my attention on her. "Don't you have a class to attend?" I spoke up. I didn't know where exactly to start, so I decided to make my question a little casual.
"I just needed to have a talk with you." She scratched the back of her head meekly as she looked up at me.
"Sure, shoot." I nodded my head. Though I was in the middle of a game, it was better to listen to her first. The practice could always wait.
"Umm…" She scratched the back of her head once again before shifting her eyes to the hovering bunch of flies.
I shifted my eyes to my right only to see a couple of them standing in the same spot. 'Looks like the others left.' I thought to myself after seeing only five of the players. They were the ones I was more closed to. And they were also the ones with which Amara and me had to share the table.
"Hey, Amara."
"You wanna stay back to watch us practice?"
"Wanna grab a bite once again?"
"I was starting to miss you already."
"Good to see you again."
One after the other, they greeted her like she was the one who was their friend, not me.
"Hey!" She passed them a forced smile before turning her attention back to me. She gave me a helpless look as she waited for me to rescue her from the awkward situation.
"Cut the crap guys, and leave those two alone."
