Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Hunger

I shook as he said those words. "W-what? W-well that may be true, but that doesn't mean I will marry you! Wait. Y-you weren't trying to tempt me before?" I then slapped my mouth shut to prevent myself from saying anything else. 'What is wrong with me?! Why can't I stop saying stupid things that will force him on me more??!!'

He smiled and ran his fingertips down my spine, making me shudder. "Don't worry. I'm not planning to marry you anytime soon. I want to allow you to fall for me, even though I have already fallen for you. After all, we've only known each other for twelve days and you weren't even awake for most of it." I removed my hand, shocked. "What?! I was asleep for twelve days?!" He nodded. "And you've become weaker because of it. You would be dead right now if it weren't for my magic. I came here to take you to the dining hall so you could regain some of your health, but you weren't here."

I looked down, feeling guilty. 'Damn, he's confusing. One minute he's selfish and cruel, then the next, he's sweet and generous.' I thought while looking back up to him. "I-I'm sorry." He then rested his chin on my shoulder and whispered in my ear. "Now that I know how you feel, I'll tell you that I am yours as well. You can play with me however you want, and I won't stop you." He pulled away with a smile, leaving me frozen.

"You look beautiful in that dress, just like I thought you would. Come with me." He got up off the bed and took my hand to pull me with him. He led me through the hall while still holding my hand. I blushed as I thought about what he said. 'Play with him? As in, I can do whatever I want to him?' I immediately moved my gaze to the ground. 'No! Don't you dare get any ideas! He's mean, remember?! Mean!' I relaxed my face and looked at his large, rough hand that was holding mine. 'Besides. He's probably taking me to his room where he will try and seduce me. The only reason he likes me is because he wants my soul. He's just a greedy jerk.'

We came up to a room and Sython opened the door slowly, making me even more nervous about what was inside. We walked in and to my surprise, there was a large table in the middle of the room with a banquet waiting for us. The table is covered in plates of delicious food, from pastries and cakes to roasted vegetables, sausages, and soup dishes. I gasped when I saw it, realizing how hungry I was. "What is this?" Sython turned to me and smiled. "Care to join me for breakfast?" I looked at the food and then back at him. "Do I have a choice?" He laughed and let go of my hand before walking to one end of the table. "And you say you don't know me."

His remark made me smile for a second and walk up to him. He then took the chair at the end of the table and slid it out for me to sit. I hesitated for a moment and sat in the chair while still tense. He pushed my seat back and then walked to the other side of the table. I looked at the food while hesitant. 'I've never seen so much food in my life, but It feels wrong to just take it.' I continued to battle with myself until Sython noticed my nervousness. "Anything you desire is yours to take. Don't be rude and refuse my offerings." I straightened my spine to his perspective.

'Well, if you put it that way...' I then reached for a roll and took a bite. "Mmm!" I forgot how good food was. 'I haven't eaten in so long, my mouth is still watering even after I took a bite!' I thought as I took another bite and started to fill my plate. A few minutes in, I glanced over to Sython. He had sat down at the other side of the table and was sipping wine out of a silver goblet, his plate empty. I tilted my head to see him clearer through the mountain of food. "A-Aren't you going to eat anything?" He looked up and smiled at me again. "Human food doesn't suit my tastes too well. It's flavorless to demons. I'm just here to make sure you regain your strength and to enjoy your company."

My eyes open wide. "I couldn't possibly eat all of this!" He laughed again. "Of course. I don't expect you to. I just didn't know what you liked." I lay back in my chair. "Oh. But, couldn't you see what I liked through my soul?" He took another sip of wine and placed down the goblet. "I can only see memories. I cannot read thoughts. You've only gotten the worst food and water throughout your life and I know that you probably didn't like that." I felt a little relieved. 'I'm glad he can't read my thoughts. At least I get that privacy.'

Then my mind started to ask questions, and I couldn't help but ask. "Out of curiosity, what do you eat?" His smile faded away and he raised an eyebrow. "Do you really want to know the answer to that question?" I shrugged. "How bad could it be?" He tilted his head as if he was admiring my bravery. "I eat the same thing angels eat. Souls and blood."

Fear struck me along with his words, but I didn't focus on them and my confusion took over. "Angels eat souls and blood?" An irritated look crossed his face and he looked away. "Yes. Angels are such filthy, disgusting creatures who know nothing other than to serve their overlord." I smirked at his reply. "I expected you to be against them, considering you're their natural opposite." His eyes went straight back to me, his expression unchanged.

His cold stare made me remember how scary he was and I went back into my shell. "S-Sorry." He noticed I was shaking again and sighed. "Listen to me. If an angel ever sees your soul, it will be consumed by greed and kill you with no hesitation. Only to offer it to their overlord. That is why you must always stay by my side. I know I can let my anger get the best of me sometimes, but no matter what I say, I care about you. Not only for your soul." I blushed and avoided his gaze, surprised by the passion in his voice. "Y-yeah right. Nice try. T-this is just another attempt to seduce me, right?" He sat back in his chair, surprised.

"Another? Oh my dear, if I was trying to seduce you, you would have been seduced already." I looked up with quick annoyance even though I was still blushing. "You're that confident, huh?" He took another sip of wine. "Even more so now that I know how you feel about me." I glared at him and crossed my arms. "You're never going to let that go, are you?" He smirked. "Nope."
