Chereads / The 12th Guardian / Chapter 39 - Betrayal

Chapter 39 - Betrayal

As Hewa walked away the rest of us continued our search around the library, within the office. We found a few pictures here and there and what seemed to be some old transaction documents for the DFC. Nothing seemed to be useful.

"Hey What about this? It mentions Shiro."

[Sirisa, holding a paper that seemed to have been ripped out of a book]

"What does it say?"

[Twilight, heading over to Sirisa]

The Entry read as so:

"L.Y. 608 Agi 28 1:32 S.Q. - At Sea, Near Diamon

It hasn't been long since our battle with Kopara ended. It seems like it's been ages since I first took up arms with Shiro and the others. Our adventures have been long and tiring. We ran into foes I never would have imagined, existed if it wasn't for the others. Some were beyond our capabilities to defeat alone. It does suck though that we lost a few on the way, especially for Shiro, having to fight Kopara meant fighting his Great Great Uncle. But it is a surprise that he was even alive. We all talked to him about it to make sure he was doing okay, especially Zenie. Not sure if something is going on there but it definitely seems that way. Right now there isn't much for us to still fight, with the corruption subsiding due to Shiro's light magic we are planning on a little break. It's definitely much needed since…"

"That's all."

[Sirisa]

"There's got to be more somewhere right?"

[Lepricus]

"Let's keep searching"

[Liam]

As we continued searching around, Hewa was still having his conversation. Stumbling over to the area he was talking, Twilight began to overhear his words.

"Yep, it was him, he came just like you said he would."

[Hewa]

[Pause for response]

"I don't know how he figured me out but I think he did."

[Hewa]

[Pause for response]

"Rah was what? Well if that's the case then do you want me to stop him here and now before he figures anything else out."

[Hewa]

"Why did you stop looking around Twilight?"

[Aka]

"Shhh, listen."

[Twilight]

"What about my brother, can I finally get rid of him."

[Hewa]

"Is that Hewa, who is he talking to?"

[Aka, as the others begin to gather as well]

"I'm not sure, but none of it sounds good, he's talking about getting rid of you right now."

[Temti]

"I thought your brother was on our side...Was this a trap all along? I think we should take you both down."

[Liam]

"Did you not hear his brother, he's going to kill him...I don't think Aka knew."

[Gixoh]

"I didn't, I swear, but I can't believe it, my own brother would betray us like this."

[Aka]

"Okay I understand, I'll take out the others like I did the Shadow Naga. I'll deliver the boy to you myself after."

[Hewa]

So he's been behind this the whole time."

[Aka]

[You will then barge into the room Hewa is in]

"Ohh..Hello again were you able to find what you were looking for."

[Hewa]

"Drop the act brother!"

[Aka]

"Yeah! Drop the act!"

[Obitiga]

"What might you be speaking of?"

[Hewa]

"We overheard your whole conversation. We know what you've done."

[Twilight]

"Oh, well then I guess it can't be helped now."

[Hewa, as he charges in for an attack]

As he charges in to take down Twilight, Aka jumps in front of his brother, pulling out what looked to be some type of fishing knife. He then proceeds to execute a swift blow to his brother's abdomen.

"Is he dead?"

[Twilight, curious about the blow made by Aka]

"No, I only knocked him out. If everything we just heard is true then he has a lot of explaining to do to our people. As well as hopefully a way to help our father."

[Aka]

"He has some explaining to do with us as well if he really is working with the Cult."

[Lepricus]

"I'll lock him up in one of our cells, for now, you can always go and talk to him after."

[Aka]

L.Y. 650 Seto 17 00:14 L.Q. - Dragondale, Town Square

We had spent a few days just resting as Aka informed his people what Hewa had done. Some were surprised but those who were not mentioned a mysterious lady always visiting him. She started coming frequently when everyone fell ill. They described her and It seems we saw her on the way in on the first day we arrived. So we knew we had to ask more about who she was to Hewa, she might have been a Cult member after all. It also turns out a few of the Citizens were on Hewa's side all the way, helping him and this mysterious woman behind the shadows. Since we didn't know much about that we would have to hold off until we could formulate a plan to find them all. We then headed to the cell Hewa was locked away in to ask a few questions.

L.Y. 650 Seto 17 01:04 L.Q. - Dragondale, Holding Cell 109

"Hello, brother."

[Hewa]

"Tsk, you don't have a right to call me that anymore! Our Maku is dead now because of you!"

[Aka]

"Well that works out, the man was getting old anyway. It was about time he left this world."

"How could you say that!"

[Aka, as he charges the cell]

"Calm down Aka!"

[The others, as the keep Aka from attacking]

"Simple, he had a great deal in front of him from the Cult and he was passing it up. I took the initiative and made sure it happened. That's something I couldn't say about you. I should have taken you out with him as well, but I hoped keeping you in the outskirts fishing would be enough."

[Hewa, with a foul taste in his mouth]

"She was right from the get-go."

[Hewa, under his breath]

"Who's she!? The women everyone says you've been having secret meetings with!?"

[Aka, furious]

"Why does that concern you?"

[Hewa]

"Nevermind our concern, is she a Cult member, that's what I want to know."

[Twilight, Calmly as he steps closer to the cell]

"And if she is?"

[Hewa]

"Will you tell us her whereabouts?"

[Twilight]

"Even if I do, it's too late now. It should have already begun."

[Hewa]

"What has already begun?"

[Temti]

"The Ritual on the Sea God and the Cult's next steps at gathering the souls of the Forsaken."

[Hewa]

The conversation went on as Hewa wouldn't give up much detail except that she was looking for the Shrine of Lust. Apparently, if she found it she would be able to corrupt more than just the people and disrupt the flow of the sea. She was looking to start her ritual, not too far off from where the shrine was located. Getting him to give us the location of the Shrine felt way too easy, but if I had to guess he didn't believe we could defeat his comrade. All of us were ready to head out, except for Aka who said he would stay back to help keep the peace in his village. So a few stayed behind with him, Lepricus and Sirisa to be exact. It took a few hours but we arrived at the location just in time to hear a strange chant.
