Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:

Is it possible for the world to glitch? Reality itself? I often wondered about it when I was operating the street sweeper early in the morning.

When the air was cold, as it is in the winter time (especially in the morning time, but not always), I would see puffs of warm vapor escape my face and swirl. It made me think one morning watching this from the corner of my eye, as my main focus was navigating through the very little traffic( sometimes an early traveler's vehicle would be parked alongside the street) at that time through my sweeping route which consisted mostly of one way streets downtown.

If water can be, well, y'know water that you drink. And it can be ice and frost , and then even be like a gas, but then couldn't everything be like that.

Do you know what I mean?

Maybe not. Well, that's what I was thinking about. That and the fact that my job was soon to be taken over by a robot basically.

It was pretty unfortunate too as I'd just got this job a few months ago, so I had to find something else.

Now, I was thinking all those thoughts when, out of the corner of my eye, I see something that made me look away. BOOM!

I rear ended what I hoped was a not so expensive car when this understandably upset woman appears, walks up to the street sweeper's cab, and begins unloading on me. Y'know, really letting me have it.

She's swearing at me. Calling me every name under the sun. Just wailing on me.

That's when I started to realize that this wasn't really about me. She kept calling me Henry was what tipped me off.

"Look ma'am I'm sorry about the fender bender, but my name's not Henry."

She, for a moment, looked confused. And then really worried. Turned to me and said, "Where am I?"

"You don't know where you are?", I asked. For a moment there, I was concerned for her mental wellbeing when she turned around, ran away, got back in the vehicle (an SUV), and drove off. Ssskkrrrrrr! Off she went. Hauling ass and burning tires.

I sat there for a moment stunned. After some time, shrugged my shoulders, counted my blessings I didn't get in a bind, and commenced to sweeping again. This time humming a tune as I did it. After all I guess I was pretty lucky. It could have been a lot worse. Getting fired from this job would mean I'd lose what benefits I was entitled to from my inevitable severance.

I guess I got over the shock of the incident pretty quickly as I didn't think of the thing for the rest of the day. I finished my route. Got the sweeper back to the shop. Finished a few chores around the office and was on the way to my second job at Wallmark.
