The angry bird call of my alarm clock's buzzing woke me up from a sleep that left my conscious self haunted by a vague dream that was quickly fading. I struggled to recall some sort of detail, but all I was left with was a general anxiety that I could not explain. Letting it go, I got dressed and prepared to go to the next job.
I was on my way to work, almost there, when I passed a curve. When the rest of the road came into view I spotted a roadblock which was not common on this kind of road (paved, but no lines). Stranger still was that it wasn't local police or the sheriff's department. Not even State Police, but black sedans and SUVs with white flashing lights in the grills.
I pulled to an easy deceleration and stopped, rolled down the window, and a man wearing dark shades walked up and asked, "Have you seen this woman?" Before I could take a good look and answer a bright flash of light blinded me and that was the last I rememembered until I came to.
Ohhhh my God! I felt like shit! I struggled to focus my eyes as I came to when it felt like someone grabbed my head and shined a bright ass light into my eye while holding the lid open. "Oh fuck!", I said. "What the fuck is going on?"
"Shut up!"
A woman's voice. "When you finish waking up I have questions for you. You need to answer honestly and quickly, or I swear I'll make you wish that you had."
I could tell she meant business, but my head was throbbing like I had taken a nap in the middle of the day. "Ohhhh, look lady you got the wrong guy. I don't know what's up with this shit, but I can tell you right now its got nothing to do with me. I'm just some guy that needs to be at work right now."
My eyes finally cleared up and when I looked at where the voice was coming from, there standing before me, was the woman from the other day. At least it appeared to be until she got real close and asked me with some intensity in her manner, studying my face. My eyes must have gotten wide with surprise because she said, "So, you have seen my sister."
