On their way to Lu Family Residence, Lu Wan didn't speak at all. He was merely following after the road while the people made ways for him to pass. They didn't want to get into trouble with Lu Wan.
Seeing the scene, Ye Jiao was amazed by how much hate her senior brother managed to gather. It felt as if the name 'troublemaker' would always stick in his body without the possibility to wash it away at all.
"Don't speak at all."
Ye Jiao was startled to hear the warning from Lu Wan's mouth, but she realized that they had arrived in the Lu Family Residence. The guard straightened their posture when they saw Lu Wan and immediately opened the door.
"Welcome back, Young Master."
Lu Wan didn't reply and walked inside directly. However, none of the guards dared to show their dissatisfaction as they understood how high Lu Wan's position in the family was. All they could do was swallow their displeasure and continued to treat Lu Wan with the utmost respect they could give.
As they opened the door, Ye Jiao could see the beautifully made stone path in front of her. There were a lot of potted plants and flowers at the edge, creating the harmonic scene. From the way the servants behaved, it was clear that this was the house of a high ranked official as they followed the etiquette perfectly.
While Ye Jiao was astonished by the layout, Lu Wan stopped his movements.
Ye Jiao nearly crashed on him, but she managed to stop in time. Her eyes followed after Lu Wan's gaze and she could see a young man around the age of 15 years old standing not far from them. He has black hair with countenance that was similar to Lu Wan albeit much mature.
"Lu Su," Lu Wan said the young man's name directly.
The young man, Lu Su, didn't seem to be bothered by Lu Wan's lack of manner. "Where have you been, Lu Wan?"
"I believe that I didn't have to report all my activities to you," Lu Wan replied harshly.
Lu Su looked at the young girl behind Lu Wan. He didn't know what was inside Lu Wan's mind, so he never interfered much with the boy's activities. "It'll be better if you tell me in advance so I could prepare a carriage for you."
"Carriage?" Lu Wan sneered. "I don't want to use those filthy carriages from the Lu Family if it's not necessary. I'm just taking a walk on the street, so you don't have to worry about me dirtying the already filthy name of Lu Family."
"I'm not worried that you'll make it more dirty but I hope you can follow the rules when it's necessary," Lu Su had long given up on Lu Wan's behavior.
Lu Wan shrugged. "I'm not a law abiding young master like you. Besides, trying to gain favor from those greedy whales who only see people from their appearance is a big no for me."
"Rule and etiquette is important…"
"I know them and you don't have to repeat it over and over," Lu Wan started to walk again. "I'll behave if it's needed but don't expect me to act that way all the time. Now, please excuse me, Lu Su."
Lu Su watched Lu Wan walk away. "Rules are important because you need them to make things in order."
"Too many rules are just going to make your life hard. I prefer to have a life where I can live the way I want," Lu Wan retorted without looking back. It didn't take long for him to disappear from the sight of his older brother.
Ye Jiao didn't say anything because she didn't understand the relationship Lu Wan had with his brother. It would be better for her to stay quiet lest that she only made things worse for them.
Lu Wan turned in several more pathways before entering a large quarter. There were only a few servants around him, but they all quickly bowed down the moment they saw Lu Wan.
"I'm going to train, do not disturb me."
"Yes, Young Master."
There were two large buildings in the quarter. Ye Jiao believed that one of them was Lu Wan's residence while the other was a large hall used for Lu Wan's training. Lu Wan entered the hall and locked the door before sitting down on the ground.
"That annoying brother, he's always trying to pick on my mistakes," Lu Wan complained as he leaned on the wall behind him.
"Do you have bad relationship with him?"
"I don't have any good relationship with anyone in this family. They just want me because of my talent, so why should I treat them with care?" Lu Wan shrugged, unwilling to reveal the detail of his feud with his own family.
Ye Jiao blinked her eyes in confusion. "What do you mean by they want your talent?"
Lu Wan thought for a moment before sighing. "Do you know that people with higher talent could reach greater rank in the future? For example, those with talent below green would never have the chance to become Eon Energy Master rank 4 no matter how much they tried."
"There's restriction?" Ye Jiao was astonished. This was the very first time she heard something like this.
Lu Wan nodded. "To reach a certain rank, you have to reach the previous rank under the designated age. I don't know the specific, but because those with yellow, orange, and red talent take too long to reach a certain rank, they will never be able to reach rank 4 in their entire lifetime."
Lu Wan noticed that Ye Jiao was contemplating and he sighed. "This is why talent is regarded as something important in this world because without talent, you can never reach a higher rank.
Still, if you're just trying to live an ordinary life, these are not that important. There are a lot of jobs that you can do without the need of high rank Eon Energy. But these are rare in this kingdom."
One way or another, the kingdom was built with Eon Energy at the very center of everything. This made those who could only reach low rank in Eon Energy or didn't become masters to only have low jobs without high pay. Some people were satisfied with their lives as they could live in peace, but some wanted to reach greater height.
This was what caused a lot of crimes to happen.
Ye Jiao looked at her senior brother. "It sounds unfortunate."
Lu Wan nodded. "Chen Kingdom is regarded as a low ranked kingdom because the highest level in our place is just rank 4. Still, it's a high rank for us."
"You're right."
"Oh right, tell me about your experience in Hell Island."
"Ok."
