A month passed where I didn't check the system, I learned to embrace the simple and easy life of a baby. I still kept training my aether of course.
The ancient Chinese that my parent spoke was easy enough to understand compared to the similar albeit far more complex language of the alliance.
When I was a little over a month old, my mother, Feng Jingyi walked in and picked me up.
"My darling baby, mommy has finally decided on a fitting name for you" she said, smiling with content. "Hao" she said, "Feng Hao."
I smiled, but was surprised. I had somehow ended up with the name I had in my previous life. The name my master gave me, not the name the lab gave me.
My mother soon picked up my brother, "your name, will be Feng Long... my little dragon"
The soft lighting of the room seemed to grow. The atmosphere of the room was cozy, warmth filled my chest.
Everything felt complete at that moment, we were a family, that was something I wanted to protect.
Although it broke an oath I swore to myself, at that moment, I made a promise. I was going to protect their smiles, no matter the cost.
...
I was able to crawl around by three months of age and everything was going well.
I had a loving mother and father who took care of my every need and a younger brother who I could play with. Everything was so dreamy I just sort of... fell into it.
Everything felt too good to be true, I had never know anything like this family.
I decided to stop training my aether and just go with the flow, I was going to experience a normal childhood.
My eyes lazily opened, I looked around the simple wooden room, allowing the peaceful atmosphere to take hold of me.
The golden light filtering in through a window, the soft chirping of birds, it was all perfect.
I quietly waited, not wanting to wake my sleeping brother. The door slowly opened and my mother stepped in, she noticed that my brother was asleep so she carefully walked over to me.
"Did my baby have a good sleep?" She asked, I quickly nodded.
I was scooped up into her strong and slender arms. I was moving onto solid food so now I was brought into a kitchen before eating.
I was lightly rocked as I was brought to the kitchen. It had marble tiles and was often cleaned.
"Lan! Get your useless ass down here and feed Feng Hao!" That was how my mother talked to most people. Her mood changes were really too much, one moment being caring and nice, the next, angry and violent.
She turned into a different person when around others, I wondered if she was extremely aggressive or just shy.
My father, Feng Lan walked down a spiral staircase, he looked tired but still dutifully made me some mashed apple.
Apples were a rarity so I was always exited when I got to eat one.
My parent talked about something in another room while I ate my mashed apple.
——-Jingyi——-
"What should we do" I asked my husband, seeking his help.
"We could always move" Feng Lan said, trying to calm me down.
"It's a week until the invasion, we can't run away at this point. What about Feng Hao and Feng Long? What should I do?" I asked, worried about the future.
"I could fight them off, I have been making a lot of carvings recently."
"Don't be in idiot, Idiot" I said before being hugged.
"I can do it, don't worry" Feng lan said, failing to comfort me.
"I will kill you if you die out there, your an asshole, you know that, right?" I sighed.
"Yes, I know, so let this asshole do his thing and save his family."
"Bitch"
——-Hao——-
After having eaten I felt sleepy. Even though I had just woken up I was already tired again, being a baby is tiring.
My father picked me up and gently placed me back into my bed. Just before sleeping, I saw my brother wake up.
He waved a goodnight at me before I closed my eyes. I smiled, having a family was nice, much better than a lab at least.
——-Long——-
My name is Feng Long, although it used to be Thomas
I lived an average life.
I had a loving family, a pet dog, a few good friends. I was happy.
During a particularly hot day, for Australia at least, I was playing in the road.
I was only five at the time.
A car was rumbling down the road, I froze up for a second before I continued playing.
It was 2028 cars didn't hit people, at worst it might make the people inside have to lean in order to not fall out of their seat.
I couldn't care less, I was five, I didn't care about other people very much.
I was too late to notice that the car didn't turn.
Everything was in slow motion, I saw my body slowly fold in on itself as the car rammed into me.
I was horrified seeing my bones jut out of my body, piercing through my flesh throwing blood all over the car.
Then I was laying down.
My body hurt, everything felt dry.
I felt a liquid touch my face and I greedily licked it up.
When I finally saw what I was drinking was blood, I puked. It was the most awful thing I had ever done, I felt terrible.
It took a moment for me to notice the mountain of bodies, which just made me puke more.
I was too sick to wonder how I was alive.
The howling of wolves made me stop puking for a moment.
I saw a massive wolf charging at me so I quickly ran, fear filling me.
I wanted to get out of this place, I wanted to go home, I wanted my mom.
I didn't want to die.
I ran, pain coursing through my body. Blood was leaking from my eyes, I had cut myself multiple times on the weapons sticking out of the ground.
I pushed my body passed extremes, blooded leaked through my pores. I was running so fast that it was killing me.
I didn't know how long I had run but eventually I lost the wolves and found myself in a jungle.
I sat down to catch my breath.
I felt strangely nervous before a monkey leapt out of a tree at me.
As if on instinct, I reached for the sword that had appeared on my hip, slashing the creature.
I felt scared, but the sword made me feel safe, that was before the monkey charged at me.
I couldn't keep up and was dealt a fatal blow.
I slowly closed my eyes. I felt my life slip away before I was suddenly standing in a strange room.
I looked around, there were shadow people with numbers in their chests.
The most eye catching of them was a strong looking shadow with a golden one.
I couldn't find the number four until I looked at myself.
I was surprised to find that I was also a shadow person.
I felt an itch on my arm and looked to see a small list had appeared on it in red.
[rewards for completing the trial
System
Inner cultivation area
Spirit ascension platform (s.a.p)
Four spirit essences
Rank seven spirit power
70% memories of past life]
I didn't understand anything on the list except for the last point.
I didn't want to lose a third of my memories.
Things quickly become dark and I found myself in an area where I was put through a tutorial on how a system worked.
Then I was in a womb. I felt like I had forget so many things, mostly names, places and conversations though.
I opened my system to check my status but was pissed when I saw what it said about my current strength.
I wanted to punch something but was soon grabbed my a hand.
I was not alone.
I was somewhat happy to have a sibling, but I now realized how much I missed my family.
I wanted to cry, but held it back, I was a big boy, big boys didn't cry.
It was only a little while before I was born, it was painful to be born.
I felt something hit my butt, it was like a whip. I cried from the pain.
I soon noticed my brother and was then set down beside him after meeting my lion like new mom.
Although it was boring and embarrassing to be a baby, I toughed through it.
I was soon given a new name, Feng Long.
I wasn't sure what culture named people like that, new world thing I guessed.
Me and my brother got along, I had noticed that his eyes were different than others.
He had experience in his eyes, like he had already lived a full life.
I wondered if he was one of the people in the room after the aptitude test.
I put that off until a later date.
——-Hao——-
A week passed, it was nice, I could get drunk on how great things were, that was until I was brought outside.
I saw my dad, he had a lot a weapons with him and a circle of fierce looking wooden animals around him.
My mother was saying goodbye to him. Why was she saying goodbye to him, he wasn't leaving, he couldn't be, we were a happy family.
I looked at my brother who was in mothers other arm, he looked sad. I couldn't tell why he would be sad.
I looked back at father. He would never leave, would he? Impossible.
I then started paying attention once my father started speaking, I was waiting for him to say how he wouldn't leave and was just playing.
He wouldn't leave, he wouldn't, he would never leave. Never.
