Level 2, hm. Strange. I wonder if this is like one of those games I used to play. "So, if I assume it's like a game, maybe I should touch this weird screen like thing and see what happens."
So, I touch the screen in my mind. It's glowing... Is it supposed to be that bright? Maybe this is just a joke, and I actually am dead. After all, no one knows what's after death until they die.
[Buzzzz]
[Welcome, adventurer. Can you hear me?] "Yes." Crap, I answered without thinking. [Good, I am the World System. Created by the many beings that oversee this world, the beings known as the gods.] "Okay, that's all cool and all, but why are you in my head and speaking to me? Last I remember, I died by being impaled, and yet I'm breathing, with a heartbeat."
[Indeed, champion. You died in quite a manner, killing yourself, dooming an entire planet. That is why you were reincarnated here, to prove yourself honorable, and to save this planet from destruction. It is paramount that you save this world, to fix the balance in which you were a part of.]
"A part of? Last I checked we were doomed to begin with, so why is my decision chosen as the bringer of doom?" [A good point, but the decision fell on you in the end. It could have been any number of people, but it was you.] "I sort of see what you are saying, but I still don't agree with the destruction being my fault." [True, which is why you have been granted another chance, instead of being damned for the rest of eternity.] "Ah, okay, that makes more sense. So, what is this level business?"
[I'm glad you asked, and I shall answer.] The bright light flashed and I opened my eyes. I don't know how, but I saw words written in mid air, alongside empty slots. [This is your status page. Here you will see your abilities, talents, buffs, and inventory. You also have automatic skill points, based on the effort you put in during each level. It should be self explanatory, because it is real world experience accumulated for growth. The more you do a certain action, like swing a sword in combat, you will gain skill points akin to your abilities, talent, and experience gained. You also gain base points to increase your strength, agility, vitality, stamina, intelligence, luck, and wisdom.]
"So, it's basically a game, correct?" [Correct, except death is a reality you can't escape here. Unless you become a master of death magic, you will stay dead. And the higher you get in levels, the more experience goes toward skills, meaning your proficiency gets better. Mostly, when you level up, your skills level up as well. No skill will be a lower level than your actual level.] "And now I'm level 2, so from what I can see my experience in hand to hand combat increased. That is what you mean, yes?" [Indeed, child. This will be the last time you hear from me, for I was commanded to explain the basic rules of status only. You must go forward and explore the world yourself, and become as powerful as you can.]
"I can live with that. Just one more question though, what is the maximum level?" [The max level is 20,000. After that, you will have to find out yourself.] "20,000! The hell, how long would that take?" [Possibly a few hundred years, maybe a few thousand for some.] "Then how can I level that high, I'm not immortal you ditzy system!" [Oh, but you are. Different race, meaning you are no longer human. You are deemed a monster race, with no life span issues. The only way you will die is if you get killed by someone else. Check your status, and decide your future path. I must go now, and remember, the gods see all, so tread carefully, and respect them accordingly.] "Fine, thank you for your guidance." I stood there awkwardly, hoping that I didn't go crazy, seeing that I was talking to a disembodied voice in my head.
[No problem child. I hope to see you flourish in this world. Good luck, and safe travels... And also notate that intelligent life forms will not understand you until you unlock the ability to talk. For monster races, level 70 is the level that you gain this skill. Now, I have said enough. I bid thee farewell.] I quickly bow with my arms to the side and reply, "Farewell, and thank you again for the assistance." I hear no reply back, so I straighten my posture.
Well, I guess I should fully look at my status now, since it seems interesting. I look at the holographic screen thingy thinking about it. Hm... It's not working. Maybe if I say it out loud? "Status."

"Shite, that is pretty impressive, thank you world, for giving me an awesome race." I wonder, can I simplify this status thing to where I don't see all of this information all the time, and just see relevant information. As for inventory, I don't really have anything yet, except for clothes. "Huh, must have been a gift from the system." I touch the clothes in my inventory slot, and a prompt asks if I want to equip them. I select yes of course.
My body flashes white, and I find myself clothed in simple garments. A plain cloth shirt made of silk, and the same for my pants. Leather shoes as well. All black in color. They all fit perfectly as if they were measured perfectly. Great, I guess this is perfect, heh. I guess since I'm ready to go, I'll start checking out my location. Well, here we go, adventure time! Um, wait, let me allocate my points to luck really quick. Alright, done. Hopefully I find something with my increased luck. Attribute points are gonna be amazing when I get to the higher levels. Now I can go, and see what kind of trouble I can get into. I smile, more of a smirk really, anticipating the rush of a fight. One day, I will no longer be the weak one, I will be the strongest!
