Daniel relished the feeling of moving his limbs as he exited the pod. The gaming pod was supposed to allow for a person to act as if they had just been sleeping, their body would be well rested when they exited the pod. But this was not the case for him. When he exited the pod he always felt slightly tired. and his body always felt as if he had done whatever exercises he had been doing in the game.
He sighed as he stretched his sore body, it was a shame that he effects of eating in the game were not carried out in real life. It was true that the pod would provide him with some nourishment, but only being able to be immersed for 12 hours limited the amount of nutrients that his body could absorb. In reality the food was all controlled by the government. Tasteless paste was the staple of every meal. This was his motivation for always playing a chef in virtual reality games. In those gsmes he could create delicious foods that he could enjoy, as well as bring delicious foods to other people.
For him the greatest joy was eating delicious foods, and was it not every person's duty to bring joy to the people around them? His name Legendaryfirechef was not for show. He truly was a famous chef in all of the games he played. His combat ability was not anything to write home about. but his abilities in the kitchen had got him recruited into the top guilds of all the games he had ever played.
This game was different though. He could still pursue his dream to be the best virtual reality chef, but his Devour ability meant he had to learn to fight. Only by eating something that he had defeated would he be able to gain experience, and he currently had no combat potential at all. Even his fire affinity was at the lowest level, This became apparent to him when he practiced his mana circulation.
Daniel sighed to himself as he approached his computer. His computer, as with all computers these days was a type of virtual reality headset. He did not know the specifications, he was not a technical genius like Guy. His passion was with food. If it revolved around the perfect way to make a steak, or how to bbq ribs he was your man. If it involved anything else he was useless.
He booted up he computer, his mind was soon transferred to a virtual community, much like one would see in a game. There were several vendors selling products that would be delivered directly to your house or account, for a price of course. He was a frequent visitor here, if food was his first passion in life, than the virtual world would be his second.
This particular virtual community was a hub where the experts of several different areas congregated. The experts of the new game Infinite Universe likewise gathered here. While he had been away from the game for an entire month, that did not mean he had abandoned the virtual world. For the last 30 days he had spent all of his time here, gathering information that was pertinent to the game, as well as several other areas.
His destination this time was not the corner that overrun by the Infinite soldiers. It was a name he had found amusing at first, the name was an obvious ripoff of the game name. But the members of the Infinite Soldiers guild truly did act like soldiers. Each of them was an expert, and there discipline was intense. No, his destination this time was not them, but rather a proverbial back alleyway. An area where the darkest rumors of the net appeared.
It was here that he had spent most of his time over the last month. Here he had fed his own sense of rejection at the death of his best friend. In this viper's den of lost hope and reason rumors floated around of those who had gone dark. Those who's minds had transcended there bodies and lived solely in the virtual world. He had dreamed for what felt like an eternity that his friend would be one of these people, so that he could once again speak to him, or at least look at his friend as he walked away.
No his dream was not even that intense. He just had wanted to say goodbye. He wanted closure, Guy's death had been to sudden.
He had been absorbed wholly by this place, and only after repeated urging by his virtual friends had he left, once again stepping foot into the world of Infinite Universe. Who would have known that once he had stepped in. the very thing he had dreamed of would become reality? That his best friend was alive, just.. Just out of reach.
Daniel shook his head as he stepped into the alleyway. This was not the kind of place to enter without a clear mind. He had escaped once, he did not know if he would be able to again.
