Ellery' s POV
How could she do this to me? I'm her best friend, why would she hurt me like this? But then again, I'm her best friend. She wouldn't purposely hurt me...
Oh my gosh, what am I doing to myself? She lied to me just so I would break up with Cole. What kind of friend doesn't want happiness for her friend? I can't believe that she did that. We've known each other for so long.
"Thanks for everything today. You're the best." I said, smiling and forgetting about Holly's conversation earlier. Amidst my thoughts, Cole had pulled up in front of my apartment building.
"This is nothing babe." He said, making me blush.
"Could you pop the trunk so I can get the clothes?"
"Hold on a second."
"What?"
"Oh, never mind. It's nothing."
"Okay." I said as he pressed the button to open the trunk.
"Well, that was weird." I muttered to myself as I closed the passenger door and walked back to get the shopping bags.
I pulled up the trunk and grabbed all the bags out of it before closing it again. I walked up o the front of the car and waved goodbye before he sped away. I opened the door walked into the building.
It wasn't a swagger building but it is surpassable. It's much better than all other options that are out there. The neighborhood isn't too bad and the rent is affordable. I pressed the button for the elevator and waited. After a while, with a ding, the doors to the elevator opened. I walked into the old elevator and press three.
~~~~~~
I sleepily and groggily walked into the coffee shop and made my way to the counter. A new guy was standing at the cashier today.
"Can I please get a large latte with two shot of espresso, three shots of caramel, and three shots of toffee syrup?"
"I don't know can you?" He said, smugly.
"Justin," I said, looking at his name tag and winked "I think I can."
"Will that be all today?" He asked, smiling.
"I'll get two blueberry scones too."
"That'll be $12.54." He said as I handed him my credit card.
"Is it for here or to go?" Justin asked.
Even though it was early in the morning there were quite a few people there. A group of business men sitting at a table talking about work, a few students studying, and a few were standing around waiting for their drinks. It was kind of busy but it wasn't too bad.
"I think I'll stay here." I replied.
He gave me the twos scones and I walked to the other end of counter to get my coffee. I got the warm mug of coffee and made my way to an empty corner of the shop. I got my book out and started reading and inhaling my morning coffee.
~~~~~
I finished my latte and scones and I walked to the counter and faced the barista from earlier once again. "Can I get a grande coffee with four shots of espresso and three sugar? To go this time and one cheesecake."
"That'll be $8.76."
I handed him my card and went back to my table. It was starting to get busier and more people were waiting on their order. No use in standing around when I can sit and wait.
The bell on the door rung again, announcing a new customer. It was during late morning hours so it was normal. The bell has rung at least 10 to 12 times in the past five minutes. But this time, I couldn't help but look up from the table.
It was Cole. As I raised my hand to wave him over, a girl walked in after him. I immediately drop my hand. The girl was wearing a really short skirt and a crop top this early in the morning.
"Babe, I'll go order. Go find a table okay?"
"Okay." Cole said, slapping her butt as she walked away, making her yelp in surprise. She giggled as he walked away.
That son of a b*tch. He was cheating on me after all. I owe someone a huge apology.
"Coffee and cheesecake to go!" A barista yelled.
Just in time. These people have such perfect timing. I got up and went to get the coffee.
The girl was standing in front of my order, waiting for her coffee.
"Excuse me. Could you move aside?" I said curtly.
"Sorry." She moved to the side.
I grabbed a fork and picked up the coffee and cake.
Someone snickered beside me. I turned to see who it was, it was the same girl.
"Is there a problem?"
"Do you really need that cake? I think you could do without it." She snickered.
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing. Never mind."
"What did you say?" This girl is out of her mind. Who does she think she is? I was going to let this go and deal with it later, but I guess not.
"I said never mind."
I took a bite out of the cheesecake and approached her. I slapped the cheesecake onto her face, the plastic plate dropped to the floor, clattering and drawing attention from other people in the shop.
"It looks like your face could do without the cake." I scoffed.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" A hand grabbed my elbow and spun me around.
"Ellery?" Cole asked, turning pale.
"Yeah, it's me you bastard. Having fun with this man stealing wh*re here?"
"It's not what it looks like."
"Are you sure? Because it definitely looks like what it looks like." I took the cup of coffee in my hand and took off the cap. I raised it over his head and dumped it on top of him. Before he could react, I slapped him in the face. He staggered back, holding his cheek, nursing it.
"I can't I believe I wasted my time on you." I spat in disgust.
I turn on my heels and made my way towards the door. As I walked out, other people in the coffee clapped and whistled.
As the door closed, a tear fell. A tear I didn't realize I was holding. I have never felt so betrayed. What was I thinking?
Why is this happening to me? Why? Why is every bad thing happening to me all at once? Will this ever end?
I have to get out of here.
~~~~~~
After I gathered myself in the lobby's bathroom, I got on the elevator and pressed the top floor. The elevator stopped at the fourth floor and Madison got on.
"Hey!" She greeted me.
"Hey." I replied
"Are you okay?" She asked, noticing my mood.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just not ready for work I guess."
Madison chuckled. "I heard that he's like a creature from hell. You're lucky to have last this long. The girls before you lasted less than a week."
"I wonder why." I said, sarcastically.
The elevator stopped at the floor below mine and Madison got off. "Good luck! I'll see you later."
"Hopefully I'll stay in one piece today!" I replied.
I got nervous as the door got closer to opening.
The nervousness from the anticipation of having to see him took my mind off the things that happened earlier. Even though it has been two weeks, I still find Charles intimidating. He was just a man that you never seem to ever be comfortable around. The doors open and he stood there right in the middle. My eyes met piercing gray eyes and I could feel goose bumps forming all over my body.
"Good morning, Sir." I said, walking out of the elevator and into the hallway.
A nod.
He started looking up and down my body, making me blush.
"How much did you spend with my card?" He asked as I handed him his card back.
"About $100."
He called the elevator and pulled me into it when the doors opened.
"What are you doing?"
He dragged me out of the building and didn't let it go until we got into his car.
"I told you already Miss Aires. You have to dress appropriately if you're going to work here. What you wear represents me."
He started the engine and pulled out onto the morning rush hour road, heading to god knows where.
It didn't seem like it but I was glad that he was taking me away from this scene. It was something that would take help take my mind off things. At least there was an upside to this whole situation. I just wanted to be anywhere, but here.
