Chapter 2 - The Middle of Us (1)

Finals week had just ended and Rune was stressed out with all the exams and studying she had to do. The exams went smoothly and she finished them all. She left school and went on her way to her destination. She was at the age where she could drive to the spot but she preferred to be connected with nature on her way, even though it was a long walk. Once she got to the barrier, she turned around and made sure that there was no one following her and with the comfort that she was safe she continued on walking to the hidden spot. She enjoyed the crunching of the leaves and the footsteps of the forest critters around her, she was never distrusted because of the bugs but rather intrigued with them. She believed that the reason that no one discovered the spot was because of the story the first had behind it. However, that never drove her away instead it made her curious and that is the first time she stepped foot into the forest. If people did continue to walk the forest they would understand how breathtaking it was for Rune. In the center of the clearing was a trunk of what used to be a tree and it had a single purple tulip grouping from it .the tulip grew with Rune, it was if the tulip and Rune were connected to each other. When Rune was upset the tulip was as well. The tulip would begin to slouch down. Rune seemed to notice that her emotions affected the tulip so she would come there with positive thoughts and not one negative thought was within her once she stepped over the barrier. When she was younger she brought soil and water for the tulip but it never absorbed the water and the soil was pointless considering the fact that it was forming from the inside of the trunk.

When Rune got there she took off her backpack and payed next to the tulip.

"I wish I was flower, you seem to have it so simple. You don't have studying to do, exams to take, or homework to do. It must be wonderful to just stay here in this place and not have a care in the world." Rune sighed as she turned to look at the flower. To her amazement the tulip had gold specks coming out of the petals. She had never seen them before so she quickly sat up and examined the tulip, Rune had never touched it and wasn't sure if she should. She had a thought that if she touched it, it would all go away and her safe place would slowly fade away. With that thought haunting her she did not know what to do with the mystery that was coming out of the petals.

"What do I do?" Rune turned around into the forest looking for an answer she ran around the forest looking for something that would be able to help her with the situation at hand. Feeling defeat she headed back to the center. The negative thought came into her mind and she couldn't push them out. What if the flower was gone when she went back to the center, or what if she did something to make the flower completely disappear.

"Stop that Rune, you cant blame yourself for what might not even have happened. You need to be positive!"

She froze completely when she saw someone or something next to the tulip, she couldn't move or speak. It was like she was in a trance. She tried to fight it off but she couldn't, she felt her eyes starting to sting. She closed her eyes to fight back the tears that were trying to escape. When she opened her eyes, the person or object was completely gone. There was no trace of anyone being there besides her, she carefully walked towards the flower and it had fallen over a bit. Rune closed her eyes and immediately thought of when she first discovered the place, when she opened her eyes she saw the flower at it highest point. Rune let out a chuckle as she was happy that the flower was at its original form. She sat down letting out a sigh of relief.

" I'm sorry for causing you pain but I was in trouble. Whoever or whatever that thing was I will find them and get them away from here. I promise to look over you. You can count on me for that." Rune looked at the tulip with admiration in her hazel eyes.

"I'll come back tomorrow, and I'll be here early since I don't have any more exams to take."

With that Rune grabbed her backpack and walked away from the center of the forrest. What Rune didn't know was that a certain tree had followed her every movements until she was out of its sight.
