On the normal Monday afternoon in a bright medical room multiple world renown doctors stood nervously.
Their focus was completely centered on the surgery happening below them to the point that no one in the room even remembered how to breathe!
Below the window a skinny female with long black curly hair was working quickly on the surgical table.
Her eyebrows were scrunched in focus and while her chocolate brown eyes were without a doubt beautiful to observe, they didn't have much life to them.
The silver scalpel in her hand gleamed in the bright lights of the surgical room. It was covered with blood as it steadily cut into the patients brain.
In the room only the soft sound of the heart machine could be heard.
Removing the top part of the head, the nurses tensed up as they watched the girl start to poke around the brain of the patient.
What was happening in front of them was complete insanity, but both the doctor and the patient consented to it; therefore there was nothing to be done!
"Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!"
Suddenly in the midst of the focused room the heart machine flat lined causing everyone to break out in a cold sweat.
The female doctor preforming surgery looked at the flat line with an annoyed expression.
Before glancing away carelessly.
"Start Afib!" Her cold voice sounded and the trained nurses rushed into action.
"Ready! 1, 2, 3 charge!"
The nurses started to let out a series of charges, however while everyone was focused on the revival of the patient the female surgeon had went back to work.
When another doctor attending the surgery saw her actions he quickly grabbed her arm.
"What the hell are you doing Dr. Adams!" He exclaimed. "This is your aunt on the table, if you continue what you are doing you are going to commit murder!"
Katherine looked at him and yanked her arm from his grasp. Her voice was void of emotions as she responded, "My aunt is already going to die if this surgery fails."
She didn't bother to meet the doctor's horrified eyes as she went back to slicing into the brain in front of her. "This surgery doesn't have the option of failing."
Her hands moved steadily as if the entire interaction didn't happen and soon after the conversation the heart beat went back to steady pace.
Everyone in the room sighed in relief before focusing back on the surgery.
After an extensive amount of time, Katherine pulled a piece of meat from the brain and set it down on a metal plate she then went back in and started cutting off more of the tumors in the brain.
Many of the surgeons felt choked up. It was already extremely surprising that the patient was still alive after Katherine went that deep into their brain. She truly didn't earn her fame for nothing.
The atmosphere in the room became more relaxed and some doctors even started congratulating each other with excited eyes. Removing a cancer so ingrown into the patients head? This was something that had never been attempted before.
Agitation appeared in the eyes of the doctors as they realized they could all be going down in history. After all, she removed so many tumors they should be wrapping up soon!
Yet, the sound of praises didn't match with the current expression on Katherine's face. In fact, her expression only seemed to get darker and darker. After a couple of hours, her face had become completely twisted.
When the nurses in the room saw the infamously cold doctor's expression, they didn't know what to do other than stare. What exactly was happening?
Dr. Adams started to chuckle darkly and she stopped the day long surgery on the brain. Her hands with limp on the surgery table.
The surgery tools in her hands dropped to the ground with a large clatter and she unsteadily took a step back.
All the doctor's watched with wide eyes, not continuing the surgery without even reattaching the patient? She was doing career suicide!?
"Dr. Adams what are you doing!!!"
A nurse exclaimed as the patient's heart rate started to act up again.
However, Katherine didn't seem to care, she spun on her feet and strolled out the room without giving the shocked medical members a second glance.
"Dr. Adams what do we do next!"
No one in the surgery room knew what happened!
As soon as Katherine got out of the room she started to rip off her PPE. Her cold beautiful face was twisted up completely. A growing ridicule grew in her almond eyes.
I failed... the words that appeared in her head spread like a coldness through her body.
hahaha... centuries of research... and I failed... hahaHAHAHAHAHA.
She couldn't stop her laughter as patients and medical workers alike gave her weird looks.
I'm done.
With reddened eyes she sat on the hospital's freezing cold floor and stared at the bright white walls. Soon a doctor from the surgery came out, he ripped off his mask showing a face nearly purple from anger.
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING DR. ADAMS! DO YOU THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE THE TOP CANCER SURGEON THEY WONT REVOKE YOUR LICENSE!"
The veins in the older doctor's neck bulged as he screeched at the beautiful girl listlessly sitting on the ground.
This doctor was too much to handle! Ever since he met her he couldn't help but be in awe of her, but also hate her.
He hadn't met any doctor before that had so much disregard for human life!
She glanced at him with empty eyes, "she's dead?"
Her uncaring attitude filled the older doctor with even more rage causing him to only force out a stiff nod.
A smile slipped out of her cold lips.
She spent her entire life fighting for nothing, the cancer in her aunt's head was something she had never prepared for. It was something that didn't make sense.
Katherine stared at her shaking hands.
While she cut out the tumor's it seemed like no matter how many she took out there were more.
Until she noticed that she was going in circles. There weren't that many tumors but the tumors were regrowing at a rapid pace.
The curse couldn't be broken. Her family was doomed to die.
Her years of medical experience didn't stand a chance and she doubted anyone in the world would be able to solve the problem at this point.
She had traveled around the world and worked with all of the most talented doctors of their time. No one could name what was happening in her aunt's head.
"Senior I need help.."
"Dam right you do, but I don't think I'll be able to help you Dr. Adams, the board and the public will demand answers and regardless of how promising you are they will take your license."
The elderly doctor's white eyebrows had a wrinkle in between them as he thought about the consequences. To lose such a talented doctor was going to be a painful lose for the hospital. Definitely since she basically killed a patient in surgery.
Why did she have to be a psycho!
"No I don't need help with that." Katherine let out a dry laugh and looked up to meet the elderly doctor's eyes.
Her own eyes held self-deprecating laughter in their depths.
"Dr. Carlson, I have the same cancer as my aunt. I'm dying."
