Denzel gazed over to Sharmaine, thinking that if he could persuade her, his nagging family, especially his father, will stop giving him appointed blind dates. It was a great plan until he shivered at the thought that he'll take a man to a ball.
I must be crazy, he thought.
Ivan observed Denzel, sighing to get his attention. "Well, it looks like I have to leave."
He gave Denzel his business card and spoke closer to his ear. "I'll be certain that you have a very intriguing secretary," and left. The office remained silent again, and with no more visitors present, Sharmaine went back to her desk; her heart pounded the whole time she was with Ivan, she thought.
How did he know her secret?
What will she do now that someone is aware of her identity?
She breathed out heavily, "I must remain calm," and looked over to Denzel, who seemed to be busy looking at the card given to him by Mr. Diz.
On top of her desk, she read a piece of paper containing information about a woman. She looked young and rich in the picture—a big shot as it was written there that she was the former secretary of Denzel's mother.
"Would you like to attend a party?"
Sharmaine looked up upon hearing Denzel. "What?"
"Nevermind," he replied, throwing the invitation aside and picking up the blue folder.
Sharmaine shrugged and reverted her attention towards the paper, reading every piece of information she considered valuable. "Shaine Meyer."
Denzel paused at what he was doing and looked to Sharmaine with eyes that promised destruction. At the same time, she looked at him with curiosity.
"I heard that he was your mother's secretary before the bankruptcy happened."
Denzel sighed and nodded making Sharmaine regain her interest investigate this matter further. The web search provided her with little to no information until she scrolled to a news site.
It was said that Shaine Meyer was apparently a victim of the Suarez Clothing Store bankruptcy. Nothing else was mentioned, so she sighed in disappointment and decided to leave the office to get fresh air.
"Where are you off to?" Denzel asked.
"To investigate," she held the door handle, "And to get fresh air." Denzel did not react or replied. He simply just let her leave.
Outside was like a new feel for Sharmaine. It was noisy and the air was filled with chatter, gossip and laughter. She rode the elevator down as she craved for coffee and sandwiches, which she could get at the cafeteria on the ground floor. There were a couple of female employees who greeted her as they select their respective floors.
"That scarf is amazing! Where'd you buy it?" one whispered, which was a bad whisper because Sharmaine could hear it.
"Suarez's latest clothing line before they closed."
Sharmaine's eyes widened at what she had just heard, so she continued to eavesdrop. "Ah, I like their clothes as well. Sad to say it bankrupted because of the employees."
"I heard one even changed their name. You know that famous secretary? "
"Ahh, Something Meyer? I heard she's Shaine Davis nowadays."
"Eh? so it's true?"
"Dunno. That's what I have heard."
They gossiped a bit more until the elevator rang open. "Shaine Davis, that name sounds familiar . . . isn't that the new model at Reyes' Formal Attires?"
