Chapter 36 - Always more problems

Kess POV-

Vulki is a little odd. Well, aren't we all? Whatever, doesn't matter. I had my minions drag back the largest morsel from that fight. Gin is afraid of bringing them into the nest so I decided to just eat right outside the nest. Don't need to preserve them since a steady supply is here.

"Hoooooohh!"

It's quite a lot. I don't quite like the spider legs attached to it but, I'm not picky. Hmmm? Ohhh. It seems that Gin's worries were correct. One of the heads sticking out of it is still alive. It's mumbling something.

"Fellia.... I'm sorry. uoohhhh!!!" Felix

So..... uhhhhh.... it's crying. Bobbing back and forth it seems to be distressed. Should I kill it? Probably won't live long without a living body anways....

*Stick

I jab a leg into its face. Well, I'm a bit famished so, it's time to dig in!

Gin Pov-

Kess is eating right in front of the nest. Watching her tear the skin and muscle off the drow heads is quite terrible. This is why we should build a detached larder. Back to the matter at hand. That fight was closer than what I would have preferred. One swipe from its tail would have left me shattered. There were creatures swimming in its vomit that could probably harm me as well. Checking them afterwards left me stunned.

They were similar to a tadpole but, they had a few extra long thin limbs. Dissecting one led to the discovery of a horrible maw that was hidden under a thin layer of skin.

Yep. I don't want to fight these things anymore. I can raise skills on regular monsters later. I quickly return to the nest with Set who is checking me out for wounds. I obviously don't have any..... Still I appreciate the action.

I go towards the main room. The only one here is Xelu. After Vulki took over her education, she has gotten slightly more expressive. I think she has been taught some weird things though..... As I approach she waves her tentacles and thorns robotically.....

This is a result of Vulki trying to program her. She gave her orders to do certain things in specific situations. For example, when I walk up to her she waves her limbs..... I tried to undo this, however, even without the order in place it became second nature for her.

Well, she has developed some natural reactions as well. The most apparent is the facial expressions she makes. It is defaultly emotionless. However, when you start explaining things to her, an intrigued or baffled face may appear. It's like watching a child learning new things. I hope Vulki doesn't corrupt that pureness....

"Hello Mashta" Xelu

"Still calling me mashta huh. So how's your education coming?" Gin

Her words have become more clear. However, she still calls me mashta for some reason. I don't mind all that much but, it leaves a weird feeling when a giant, bloody, eldritch spider creature calls me that.

"Vulki's education? She is trying to teach me that weird stuff again." Xelu

Crap. She really needs to stop that. I've told her to be careful with what she teaches Xelu. I banned her from even mentioning some of the more aweful things. What was she like before? To even know..... No, I need to get that image out of my head.

*Shivers

'What's wrong master?' Set

'Nothing, just a horrible thought.' Gin

*Level up(11)

*Kess has levelled up

...

Well everyone is level 11 now. Only 4 more until the next evolution. That's a long way off though. The experience requirement has become a hefty sum now. I also haven't had a mission generate. Surprising since this seems like a large enough issue to make one. Perhaps I need to invade their nest? Thinking on it though, I've never seen anything that is legendary graded let alone anything higher...

------

After an hour of relaxing Vulki rushes into the room flustered.

"Master Gin! There is a group of drow outside. I don't know who they are but, they are strong. It seems that our fighting has lead them here." Vulki

Ohhhh?

I didn't expect drow to appear here. Perhaps it's an extermination squad. They are most likely sent by the higher authorities of drow society. They may be scouts. With the local drow settlement destroyed they must be on high alert.

"Well lets go see them. Let's bring a lot of spiderlings just in case...." Gin

Drow scout POV

We were sent out from the royal capital Ghoulil to find the wretched hive. Dozens of settlements and even a few cities have been crushed already. The fallen dwarves have suffered just as badly as us and will likely send scouts as well. There has even been talk among the religious faction about an alliance. The nobles and royalty would never agree but, with how things are now.... It may not be a choice.

We first made our way to the first settlement that was destroyed. The stone walls are crumbled and no signs of life are anywhere to be seen. It gives off an eerie feeling. From there, we located the stream of wretched. Following the line back from a distance, something weird came up. The wretched break off into three different directions.....

For only half of them to cause as much choas as they do..... The other three want to report on this right away. I cannot allow that though. We need to see where the rest of the wretched are headed.

Some seem to be heading to a dungeon. If I recall correctly, this is a massive dungeon that was considered a forbidden place. Fairy-type monsters are just as evil as demon-types. This dungeon in particular is full of them and it is even said that in its depths, a legendary one exists.

After going to the end of the other offshoot of wretched..... We saw something crazy. A human. Who controlled a broodmother and had some weird creature that shot out black liquid attached to him. As well as an army. This could both be a boon and a bane. With the wretched invasion going on, he will hold a good bit of them off. However, once we end it..... We will have a powerful rival. That cannot be allowed. Perhaps we can recruit him. I have the newest member go towards that firey broodmother. Arachne broodmothers are rare as hell already so one made of fire....

He seems to be communicating with her just well. A minute later she takes off to the cliff. Hopefully this turns out well.

What, I didn't know, was that this encounter would be the downfall of the drow race in its entirety.
