Chapter 79 - Isolated

After dinner, He Li lay back on a wicker chair, carefully applying nail polish to her slender nails while occasionally glancing at Feng Ying, who was engrossed in reading a book across from her. Feng Ying appeared to be in her early thirties, with long hair cascading over her shoulders, a tall and curvy figure, and a beautiful, imposing face.

One could tell she was a person with many stories just by looking into her eyes. If it weren't for the cold aura she constantly emitted and the unwavering indifference in her clear eyes, she would, like He Li, be the target of many men's dreams. Although no longer in her youth, she possessed a mature charm that He Li did not have.

What kind of story did this woman have? What experiences and reasons made her, with her good looks and figure, choose the dangerous and exhausting job of a bodyguard? He Li pondered as she watched Feng Ying absorbed in her book. She had tried to communicate with her, even considered becoming friends. But after living in the same villa for over a month, He Li knew nothing about her except that her name was Feng Ying. Feng Ying rarely spoke, making her seem as unreachable as an iceberg.

Initially, He Li thought Feng Ying looked down on her profession and didn't want to talk to her, but she later realized that besides the books she held, Feng Ying seemed indifferent to everything else. Feng Ying always wore the same purple suit, a style popular years ago, and He Li had never seen her in anything else. Every day, she was like an unchanging model: silent, in purple, reading, and uncommunicative.

He Li noticed that Feng Ying read a wide variety of books, mostly obscure mysteries, like the recent one titled "Angel of Death." He Li had read a few chapters online and found it boring compared to the more interesting palace dramas.

She wondered why Feng Ying was so engrossed in it. Like He Li, Feng Ying rarely went out, except on weekend evenings after dinner when she would thoroughly check every corner of the villa, set up numerous traps, and then quietly slip out, returning late at night with a faint smell of alcohol...

The prolonged seclusion began to bore He Li, accustomed to a more glamorous life. She decided to take the initiative to make the silent bodyguard share her story, to add a bit of fun to this dreadful secluded life. However, her efforts were in vain. Feng Ying's heart was like a completely closed-off iceberg, impenetrable. Even the reason behind her mysterious disappearances every weekend remained an unsolved puzzle to He Li.

As the last rays of the sunset melted into a brilliant twilight, marking the end of another dusk, Mu Zi finally stood up from his chair. He stretched, walked briskly into the washroom, and quickly freshened up. A minute later, he stood before a stunned Ouyang Liuse, transformed.

"The Flash?" Ouyang Liuse exaggeratedly blinked, looking up and down at Mu Zi, who seemed to have undergone a metamorphosis in just a minute. He went from disheveled and red-eyed with furrowed brows to spirited and brimming with confidence. Such a rapid transformation was akin to the Light Speed Knight from American movies.

"It's more like the The Hungry," Mu Zi made a face, pulling Ouyang Liuse up from the couch in a mock gentlemanly fashion while pointing exaggeratedly at his stomach and exclaiming, "This here, I think I could eat a whole cow!"

Ouyang Liuse followed Mu Zi to the door, teasingly reminding him, "Someone claimed to be a vegetarian..."

Half an hour later, they sat in a quaint Hunan restaurant called Maple Forest Cottage. Ouyang Liuse daintily chewed her food, incredulously watching Mu Zi across the table, sweating profusely and devouring his meal. He had already polished off three servings of sour beans with beef, and the waiter watched him in awe without any signs of stopping.

His appetite seemed boundless. Could he really fit a whole cow?

After finishing the fifth serving of sour beans with beef and nearly clearing the table, Mu Zi finally paused, wiping his mouth with a napkin and sitting upright.

"Full yet?" Ouyang Liuse asked cautiously, swallowing a bite of rice.

Mu Zi glanced at the waiter beside him and casually dropped a bombshell that almost made Ouyang Liuse faint, "Isn't it time for soup yet?"

Ouyang Liuse sighed as the waiter walked away.

"What are you sighing for?" Mu Zi feigned surprise.

"If you keep eating like this, I'm afraid one day we'll end up as beggars on the streets..."

As they bantered, the restaurant's glass door opened, and a tall woman entered, sweeping her gaze across the room before heading to a corner table. Dressed in a long purple dress with her hair over her shoulders, her every move exuded a cold, alluring sensuality. Her presence drew many eyes, but she seemed indifferent, settling down at a window-side table and scanning the restaurant before ordering.

Her natural aura of unapproachability was advantageous, allowing her to stay detached and concealed.

Before entering the restaurant and ordering, she swiftly surveyed the layout and situation. Her glance might have seemed casual and unfocused, but she had a clear view of the entire restaurant's layout and situation.

Her chosen table, in a corner by the window, allowed her not only to see everything inside the restaurant but also to have a clear view of the street outside.

From the moment the woman in purple entered the restaurant, Mu Zi and Ouyang Liuse's eyes followed her.

The woman in purple, of course, didn't know that the young couple laughing and chatting among the crowd were The Angels of Death, the duo seeking He Li's life.

But Mu Zi and Ouyang Liuse recognized her immediately.

Indifferent, calm, cautious, and alert. She was Feng Ying, the mysterious female bodyguard they had observed many times through binoculars, always by He Li's side.
