Chapter 31 - HER NEWFOUND BEST FRIEND

"Does this entire room really belonged to me from now on?"

She asked Naomi as she still could not believe her eyes.

"Of course, you can do as you please to this room. Once you arrange some furniture here and there, this room will be good as new."

Naomi replied in nonchalance then he sniffed in the air. He stuck his nose in the air and then followed the smoke coming from the piping hot meal that sat unattended on the plate not too far away from where he was lying.

The food that he brought for Syra was actually a pork tenderloin cooked in a special sauce and just its sight alone was enough to induce gluttony for anyone, let alone to a cat such as Naomi.

"Do you want some?"

Syra asked when she noticed Naomi looking at her food. Then she took a spoonful of it and offered it to Naomi.

"It smells good, didn't it? I am sure it tastes good as well."

Syra added afterward to enticed him.

"I know right? I am the one who brought it to you so obviously I already tasted it way before you do."

Naomi's reply may sound catty but for some reason, Syra found talking to Naomi quite comforting.

Naomi eyed the food and for a moment, his pupils dilated. He had already had his fill before coming over but after seeing the food again, hunger seemed to strike him once more.

However, the cat tried to hold back himself.

"No thanks."

He declined kindly but his stomach growled in protest. Hearing this, Syra could not help but smile and she insisted on them to share the food.

"Come on, there is plenty of food for the two of us. Join me."

Syra insisted and giving in to his stomach's call, Naomi finally relented.

"Alright if you insist."

He said and the two ate together.

From time to time, they would also share occasional chats here and there. The longer she stayed, the more convinced Syra felt that working as Clyde's apprentice was no exactly a bad idea.

Well, her boss was sure a handful, but at least she felt like she found a new best friend in Naomi's company. Something that she did not expect when she first accepted the job offer.

At the same time, Syta was so happy that night, because to date, she had never shared a meal and a good talk to anyone, and it would be a lie to say that she did not enjoy it, albeit her company that night was not a human but rather a cat.

Little did they know that their first night together would actually mark the start of a beautiful friendship.

After spending some time with Syra, Naomi finally decided to take his leave, but not before reminding Syra for one last time.

"It's getting late, hooman. I have to go now. Sleep early and don't forget, you must not be late tomorrow. Okay?"

The cat reminded her out of goodwill.

"Alright, alright. I heard you just fine, Naomi. Don't worry."

Syra replied with a smile as she had heard the other party repeating the same thing that night for who knew how many times already.

Naomi left after their meal together so that Syra could rest for the night. After all, they did not want her to be late on her first day tomorrow and risked Clyde having a bad first impression regarding her.

But when Naomi left, Syra did not go to bed right away as she did not felt sleepy yet. She tossed and turned restlessly around her bed trying her best to find a comfortable sleeping position, but it was to no avail.

For some reason, sleep seemed to elude her that night.

After a while, she jolted upright to her bed and trained her eyes around the room. That was when an idea came to her.

She reckoned that what kept her awake was maybe because her body was used to finishing all the necessary household chores first before going to bed. So with that thought in mind, Syra started working her ass off.

On her first night, Syra busied herself tidying her room, and only when she was done cleaning did she retire for the night.
