"Look... It was not that I did not want to accept the job. To be honest with you, I actually badly need one. But, is there really a need for me to sign this blood contract???"
Syra's face subconsciously twitched when she mentioned the word blood.
"Of course??? Because that is what would bind us. I don't trust words alone. Especially if it was uttered by a mere mortal. I've seen a lot of people who did not honor their words and break their oaths in the past."
"But-----"
Syra hesitated but Clyde finished her sentence off.
"But you are thinking you could be actually signing a death sentence."
"Err... Quite close to that."
Syra admitted, then she reasoned out.
"Who knows if this contract was actually about me selling my soul or something to the demon?"
When Clyde heard that, he fought back the urge to lash at the other party. If there was one thing that triggered him most, that was placing his name to anything related to demons.
"What makes you people think that we are in any way related to demons? We don't worship demons. Do I look demonic??!"
Clyde pointed to his handsome face and asked Syra directly for her opinion.
"Well, the face could be deceiving. I have already seen what are you capable of doing. You even made a cat talk. So what could stop you from altering your image? Who knows? Maybe you are also in disguise right now."
Trying her best to keep a straight face, Syra averted the other party's gaze and refuted his words. But when Clyde heard her reply, he seemed offended.
With a casual flick of his finger, Syra was dragged towards him and as soon as she arrived before him, Clyde reached out to Syra's hand.
"Hey?! Let me go!"
Syra tried to pull away from the other party's grasp but Clyde only yanked her hand back. Then he placed Syra's hand atop his smooth and glass-like skin.
"This face is real. This is mine. I know my beauty looked like one that came straight out from a beautiful painting. It sure was surreal but don't ever doubt my beauty. Only I was allowed to own this kind of face and no one else."
Clyde said those words with so much conviction in his voice as though that was the most certain thing that he could ever say in the world.
The two stood so close at one another to the point that Syra could already felt the other party's hot breath fanning her face.
For a moment, Syra's mind seemed to stop functioning and all she could hear was the sound of her own heart beating.
Syra had never been that close to anyone before so seeing a beautiful guy up close for the first time seemed to send her teenage hormones into a rampage.
Her heart was beating so fast as though it was threatening to leap out of her mouth at any moment. At the same time, her breathing became hoarse and she could also feel all her pulse pulsing as though all her blood was coursing rapidly in her blood vessels.
Syra could swear for certain that her face might have probably taken the shade of crimson red already.
But what else she could do? She simply could not take her eyes away from the other party.
For a moment, they locked eye contact and Syra used that opportunity to stare closely at Clyde's eyes; from those pair of orb-like eyes that were as black as ink, Syra saw her own reflection staring back at her.
She saw his pupils dilated for a second but she was not able to stare at it longer because the other party already pulled away and was the one to break the eye contact first.
"Don't worry, I won't pressure you. You could take your time. I will give you time to decide."
Clyde cleared his throat first as soon as he broke away then he gave Syra his final verdict.
"For real? That's good to hear!"
Syra exclaimed but before she could even say more, Clyde already started his count down.
"Ten..."
"Wait! What?! I thought---- "
"Nine..."
"I have to think this through, at least give me a minute!"
"Eight!"
"Crap!"
"Seven"
"Okay, self, calm down... You have to think straight"
"Six!"
"Fvck this time pressure!"
"Five."
"I don't have any other options anyway."
"Four."
"So be it!"
"Three."
"Okay! Okay, I'm in!"
"Two!"
"I said I'm in!"
"One!"
"Are you deaf? I already consented."
"So? I am also merely counting down. What's wrong with that?"
"Errr???"
