Chapter 18 - Tense vs Light As a Feather

This girl. What was she thinking? Why is she so shameless? Doesn't she know she's been called here to be turned down and not raised? Li Han's brow twitched and creased as he looked at this girl. The only thing she has going for her is her face. Let her down easy. "Actually, I called you here to tell you thanks but no thank you." Song Yu Xie's big grin dropped to the floor. "But I thought-" "You didn't." Li Han's voice shook through her entire body.

"You assumed that just because Li Group representatives got in contact with you, it would be because we wanted to work with you." Real smooth Li Han. "We've decided to go in another direction and work alongside someone else." Song Yu Xie was clenching her fist so tight her knuckles turned pale. She had never been disrespected like this before.

"If you decided not to work with me, why did you invite me here today?" 'This girl is shameless and bold.' "I extended the invitation to show you that Li Group has manners and a conscience." 'How dare he. Doesn't he know who I am?' "Well CEO Li, I don't need your conscience. If there is nothing else." With that, Song Yu Xie got up and stormed out of the office making sure to throw her temper as she left. Li Han simply got up and finished reading his documents. Before Song Yu Xie left Li Group she found someone to order around. She pushed Hong Xia Mie into a stairwell on the 18th floor and cornered her between two walls.

"I need you to figure out who took my endorsement deal." She didn't even ask nicely. "You're what? What endorsement deal? I'm just a junior secretary and as far I know, Li Group isn't endorsing anyone at this time." Hong Xia Mie was just a nobody. A little fish swimming in a big pond. How was she supposed to find out big fish information? "Do I look like I care? Find a way, figure it out! Don't make me have to come back here." Song Yu Xie immediately flipped her hair in annoyance as she left and Hong Xia Mie unexpectedly found herself pushed against a hard cement wall."

While a tense Hong Xia Mie gathered herself for the rest of her workday, Mei Yin felt light as a feather on her way home. In fact, she felt better than she had for a very long time. She was excited and ready for her brand new start in her professional career. She went home and reviewed the papers Zhao Hui had given her earlier in the day so that she could be prepared for tomorrow.

The next day, Mei Yin was up bright and early at 5:30 am. She took this time to shower and put on a simple pair of black skinny jeans, a white cotton t-shirt, and black sneakers. Since she was going to a salon she just wore her hair in a ponytail and put on a black baseball cap. By the time she finished getting ready it was still quite early so she decided to gather her things and study outside while she waited for Zhao Hui.

At 6:20 am a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 pulled up in front of her front door. At first, she didn't pay it any attention, but when Zhao Hui opened the door and invited her inside, it would be a lie to say that Mei Yin was pleasantly surprised. After Mei Yin got settled, Zhao Hui handed her a bag and let down a tray. "Because you were early today, I can give you more time for breakfast." Inside the bag were pumpkin porridge, fruit salad, sweet soy milk, and fried tomato and egg. By the time they got to the salon, Zhao Hui saw that Mei Yin had finished everything except the eggs. She just ate around the eggs.

"Why didn't you eat your eggs? Were they spoiled?" Mei Yin realized that the only people who knew her food tastes were her mother and her best friend Fei Fei. She shook her head. "I don't know if they were spoiled or not because I don't eat eggs. I never have. I know it's bad to be picky but they make me sick every time I eat them." Zhao Hui made a mental note to leave eggs off the menu at all times.

When Mei Yin and Zhao Hui entered the salon, they were escorted straight to the back of the salon. "How come we're the only people back here? Are they closed?" Mei Yin was concerned. If they weren't taking clients, why were they here? "Since you decided to accept the contract with Li Group, everything must be kept confidential." Mei Yin now understood that they were just taking precautions. It would be a shame if any news got out before they wanted it to.

Mei Yin met with several people within the span of 2 1/2 hours. There was a color expert, a hairstylist, a professional makeup artist, and three massage therapists. She'd been pricked in places she didn't know existed. After an intense showdown, Mei Yin was granted a mirror and took in her entire reflection. The woman in the mirror looked like her, but she felt more empowered. She was lost in herself. She had more confidence, presence, and more fire in her eyes. "We're on a very tight schedule so unfortunately, you can't gawk at yourself as you usually would in this situation. Let's get moving."
