Rastel checked his stats as soon as he got the notification. He had finally passed level ten so he was officially strong enough to travel about on his own. Most normal wild animals and bandits never passed this level so it was the advised level to travel. Although he was impatient at first to leave the village even at level 4, he was well aware of the danger and decided it would be manageable as long as he made it to a village before logging out.
"It was nothing at all, I am glad to have been of help" he smiled as he took the bag into his inventory with a wave of his hand.
Marilyn nodded her head as she suddenly seemed distracted by something. She stared Rastel up and down for a moment before shaking her head in some silent disagreement. Taking an excuse from the group, she left the inn almost immediately leaving Rastel wondering what was up with her.
He looked at himself as he wondered silently. 'I'm not really that ugly right? Muans are actually quite nice looking in a sense, what is going on?' he felt somewhat dejected.
"So boyyo, we will be on our way too. I hope we meet again if fate lets it." Oron suddenly declared.
"We will make our own fate then old man, let me add you up as my friend" Rastel laughed as he inwardly patted himself on the back for the witty response.
Oron accepted as they exchanged contacts, he also became friends with Mary too. Oron's IGN was simply Oron, the name wasn't really too common so he must have had it easy. Mary on the other hand…
'FaireeMaree?' Rastel first showed confusion then looked up at Mary's face who looked back at him with silted eyes as if daring him to make a comment.
He just put his lower lip in his mouth and stared down, then sideways as he struggled to keep in his laughter and comments.
'She is definitely not called bloody Mary for nothing. I can't die here…. I can't die here" he chanted in his mind as he reined in his laughter.
Just as the tension was getting to its peak, Marilyn walked back in with a package in her hands. She looked at Rastel once over before handing the package to him.
"What's this?" he stared at the package wrapped in a black cotton like material.
"Clothes, you look dreadful in those things, and when was the last time you had a wash?" Marilyn pointed at him as she took out a pipe from some hidden pocket on her clothes.
'Clothes?' Rastel unwrapped the package and found himself staring at a black set consisting of a shirt, trousers, a pair of leather boots and leather gloves.
The shirt was a stylishly made T-shirt with no collar and was covered with designs made with a darker thread around the collar and sleeves. The trouser was also nice and had multiple pockets all around it on the front, back and right above the knees. There were also a few hidden compartments for one thing or the other. The boots were ankle high and had short laces while the gloves had short fingers and were seemingly made with the intention of increasing a person's grip on their weapons.
"It is a sort of ceremonial wear for our village, it was made for hunters and the pockets can store different types of knives, darts or any hidden weapon that takes your fancy. There are leather paddings around various weak spots to give extra protection. The fancy designs were just the maker's personal tastes but it is quite functional." Marilyn gave a description of the clothes as she stuffed her pipe with herbs and lit it with some fire from the cooking area.
Rastel saw that it indeed was quite nice and it looked good. After a little inspection, the stats came out.
Laron hunter's set – Hunter's Shirt, Hunter's trousers, Hunter's boots, Hunter's gloves.
Rarity – none
Type – equipment
Attributes - +1 AGI, +2 DEX, +2 END
"Thank you very much for this" he was sincerely grateful for the gift, his beginner gear was already tattered and worn from his constant battles.
"You can thank me once you go upstairs and take a bath! Dear Ulna, your stink seems to be growing stronger" she muttered the last part as she took puffs of the now ready pipe.
Rastel chuckled embarrassingly as he moved to go upstairs only to realize Myra was moving right behind him.
He immediately stopped and looked back.
"I am going to take my bath you know, you can't follow me in" he said bewildered by her action
"I know that! I'm just going to wait for you outside…." she blushed furiously as her voice slowly lowered.
"Come here dear, you need a bath too" Marilyn pulled her over as she led Myra to her side of the inn.
Myra reluctantly followed as she was pulled through the door behind the counter.
Rastel shook his head at the scene, he then turned his attention to Oron and Mary who were standing by the door ready to leave to wave them goodbye once more before going upstairs to his room.
About 30 mins later, Rastel came downstairs feeling refreshed and wearing the clothes given to him by Marilyn. He met only the village head's son downstairs together with the head hunter he fought with the night before. They sat down and engaged in small talk as he waited for Marilyn to appear so that he would bid her goodbye before leaving the village.
A few minutes later, Marilyn came out with Myra in tow who was sporting a black dress with a small collar and designs all around it with a blue sash tied around her waist. The sash matched perfectly with her eyes and now that she looked fresh and clean, Rastel was sure the girl was a beauty.
'Where did this girl come from really?' he wondered silently to himself as they walked over.
Rastel stood up and smiled as they approached. "I'll be taking my leave now, thank you for everything so far".
"No, it is you who helped us. We are grateful." Marilyn smiled back.
"Since you are ready to go, there is a horse drawn cart outside, it once belonged to those devious bandits. My father said I should give it to you, there are a few supplies there to last you a few days" the village chief's son suddenly piqued in.
'Transportation?' Rastel was momentarily taken aback before showing his thanks.
"Well then, I'll be on my way" he thanked them once again as he made to move out.
"Yes, let's go!" Myra added as she skipped to his side.
"What do you mean 'We'? why are you following me?".
"B-but, you are my hero mage aren't you?" Myra suddenly seemed close to tears.
"Well if you say so but…" Rastel was really at a loss, he didn't know how to handle this girl.
"Where are you from little girl?" Marilyn suddenly took a soothing tone as she asked her.
Myra took a moment as she rubbed at her eyes before she finally replied. "Aysver"
"The kingdom to the south?" the big hunter inquired and she nodded.
"What brought you all the way here?" Marilyn asked her again but she didn't reply. She was just looking up at Rastel with watery eyes.
"Big sis said a hero is supposed to take you home after saving you" she seemed like she was really going to cry now.
'Who is this 'Big sis' person that keeps on piling expectations on my head' Rastel was now conflicted. He couldn't take a little girl out adventuring with him. As a player, he would definitely seek out dangerous situations and fights to increase his level and strength, keeping her safe would be a burden and this Aysver kingdom should be really far away.
"This is truly too high a request little girl. A military regiment would come by in a few days, why don't you wait here with us till then? I'm sure they can take you to Aysver quite easily" the village chief's son said.
"Please hero, take me with you. I know! My father will reward you greatly if you take me home!" Myra suddenly added as if in enlightenment.
New quest!
A Journey Home! – Rank B
Myra has found herself far from home and needs to return urgently. Escort her to the kingdom of Aysver and be greatly rewarded for your services.
Reward: 50,000exp, Unknown
'A rank B quest!?' Rastel's eyes suddenly opened up wide! A rank B quest was a high level quest, most quests no matter how difficult normally capped at rank C but once it reaches Rank B, it mostly had to do with a quest with a long process or an immensely difficult quest! But the most important factor here was,
'This girl can trigger a rank B quest?' a character had to be very important in the quest settings or in the world hierarchy as a whole to be able to give a quest, especially high level ones. For example, a servant in a kingdom can't trigger a war quest with another kingdom but can maybe give a quest to clean a particular plsce under his jurisdiction.
This new quest sent his mind reeling as he suddenly thought of so many things at once.
"Okay" he suddenly said.
"What!?"
"Yes!"
Everyone in the room suddenly had different reactions. Myra skipped forward and grabbed his hands while smiling happily.
"I will take her to Aysver." He said once more.
"But the kingdom is all the way to the south, it is really far and would be very dangerous" the village chief's son said gravely.
"Don't worry I'm stronger than I look, and I have allies. It is just Aysver, I've passed there before." He lied through his teeth, he couldn't let a rank B mission go!
"But…" Marilyn still looked worried
"Okay I will be going now, there are actually a few people waiting for me outside, I have to hurry. Once again, thanks for everything" he waved at them one last time as he went out with Myra in tow. The three of them in the inn just kept looking at him as he left.
"Oh no! I forgot to tell him we prepared an escort for him outside. Those summoned are going to attack!" the big hunter suddenly exclaimed as he rushed out.
He came out just in time to see the horse drawn cart thundering away on the narrow streets of laron. A few summoned were running after the cart on foot with inhuman speeds.
THRMMM! CLOP! BANG!
The cart tottered unsteadily as Rastel reached the bend that entered the road to the main gate. He was obviously incapable of riding a cart and was barely keeping the horse in check. As they rounded the gate, he saw his greatest fear realized.
A group of players were blocking the gateway out of the village as they pointed at the cart. The players that were following behind him began to slow down as they reached closer to the gate.
'Well fuck, they are serious' Rastel silted his eyes as he saw them.
Myra on the other hand was looking excited as the horse thundered down the path, she was too thrilled by the ride to notice the problem.
As they reached the gate, Rastel suddenly handed over the reins to Myra. "Here, just hold it steady for a bit, I'll be right back!"
She fumbled a bit as she held tightly to the reins but she ultimately didn't need to do much, the horse kept a straight path as it went forwards.
At the gate, a group of mages gathered at the front.
"All right you guys, form up in two rows and cast your spells! We don't want him dead, we just need to have him slow down long enough so we can capture him!" a tall wood elf wearing a set of brown leather gear with light green hair and eyes yelled at the group pf mages. He was sent by his guild to capture this player who probably possessed some special class or weapon that allowed him summon a golem. They needed to either recruit him or get the secret out of him.
"Quickly now cast the spells!"
On his mark, a dozen earth walls set side by side appeared and blocked the gateway.
The man smiled as he looked at the incoming cart. The horse would have to stop or change direction or they will risk crashing in, either way, they will have to slow down and his warriors would then board the cart and capture the player.
"What the fuck!?" one of the mages suddenly yelled.
They saw the muan wave his hands as a red robe appeared around him. Suddenly, he leapt from the cart and unto the horse before leaping forward into the air. He then waved his hands once again as something flew out and landed right in front of the first set of walls.
RUMBLE! BOOM!! CRASH!!!
Two golems with hammers for hands suddenly smashed into the walls as they crumbled under their massive swings. The wood elf and the mages only had enough time to get out of the way before two large fire balls suddenly crashed right in front of them, the explosion pushing them backwards.
Rastel had used the robes boost in casting speed to be able to quickly cast two fire balls before plunging to the ground. He guided his fall and landed safely on top of the cloth covered cart as it thundered pass the broken walls and fallen players.
With a wave of his hand, his golems returned to him as they left the village of laron with the bewildered players behind them.
The wood elf stood up from the floor with a frown on his face as he heard the loud laughter of the muan from the cart as it thundered onto a path leading deep into the forest.
"Damn!" he cursed.
In a side alley near the gate, Oron stood chuckling as he watched the scene for a moment before turning to Mary who stood beside him.
"Let's get going then, it seems he didn't need our help after all!".
