Chapter 45 - Chapter 29: Saint Mary Magdalen

A few months after Olivia and Samar reconciled, she invited the whole gang to her place. Since Aiden was going to be there, she told Aiden that he could bring along Sarah as well, even though they were still not in talking terms. When all the guests arrived, Samar insisted that Olivia should go to the kitchen to bring snacks. As she disappeared from the hall, Samar took out a box and displayed a ring in it! The whole gang squealed in happiness.

Olivia asked from the kitchen, "What's going on there?" Everyone screamed together, "NOTHING!" Samar whispered angrily, "Guys! You people are making this too evident! I need your help to plan the perfect proposal, and I'm going to do it tonight. That's why it was my idea to call you here!" Sarah whispered as a reply, "Okay, then what's the plan?" The group huddled together and discussed the entire procedure of what happens when.

After Olivia came out from the kitchen with a tray full of food, everyone was giggling weirdly. Olivia raised an eyebrow and inquired, "Guys, why are you acting so mysterious? You're scaring me." Aiden said, "OMG! I just remembered that Chris asked me to meet at the docks to talk something official about the company. I'm taking Samar with me." Olivia asked angrily, "Then why did we make this plan in the first place!? If you were busy, you could have told me! And why are you taking Samar if this meeting between you and Chris are talking about your firm?" Samar quickly replied, "Because Aiden wants to recruit me!" Olivia said sarcastically, "Since when did you become a businessman? No offense, but you don't even know the ABC of business." Samar promptly responded, "I will learn! Okay now bye!" They both dashed off in an expedition leaving Olivia reasoning about their peculiar response.

The girls were chilling out until Sarah received a call from Aiden to bring Olivia to the garden by the Thames river. After disconnecting the phone, Sarah suggested, "Hey guys! How about we take a walk in the yard across the street?" Olivia asked in irritation, "Why? You got a date that you want us to set you up with?" Sarah got angry for a moment, but then she composed herself and said sarcastically, "Because my stomach is upset as I ate your lousy food!" Olivia yelled, "Get out of my house and feel free to fart outside! Not here!" Mavis and Pauline giggled softly and whispered together at the same time, "Now that was a good one!"

As the girls reached the garden at night, they saw a maze before them. Olivia stepped forward and asked, "Why did you bring me here?" Mavis replied immediately, "Because I hear that if you work your way out of a maze, then the upset tummy will get better." Olivia raised an eyebrow and responded while laughing, "I am a doctor! That's the stupidest theory I've heard. Guys, what's really going on here?" Sarah backed up and replied, "Isn't it normal for a lady to take a walk in the maze after a lousy dinner? Well... I believe in Mavis's theory! Now let's go!" As Olivia stepped forward, the pathway lit up! So it didn't take them much time to cross the maze.

The four girls arrived at the end of the maze and saw Aiden and Samar stand before them with a boat and a paddle on the river. Aiden approached Olivia and escorted her to Samar, who was standing at the edge of the bank. Olivia asked Samar, "What's all this?" Samar grinned and replied, "The perfect date." He facilitated Olivia to take a seat on the boat, and a few moments later, they paddled away, leaving Sarah, Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline at the banks.

*ON THE BOAT*

Olivia asked Samar, "Where are we going?" Samar answered, "The church." Olivia beamed and responded, "You remembered?" Samar said, "Of course I did!"

*FLASHBACK*

When Olivia and Samar started dating in the eighth grade, he asked her to describe her perfect first date. Olivia always said that on her first date, she wanted to go to the temple or a church as she believed that God would bless the relationship and it would always benefit everyone as she thought that every relationship had something to teach us and something worth to remember.

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

Olivia saw that the white swans on the lake did the formation of a heart, just like in the movies. It was like a fairytale dream come true. As they arrived at the main entrance at the Saint Mary Magdalen church, Samar gave Pauline a signal indicating to turn the church lights on. Olivia entered the church and was amazed by the beautiful sculptures and the beauty of the decorated altar. She rushed forward and knelt down to pray. After she was done, she turned around and was surprised to see Samar missing. A few moments later, even the lights went out. Olivia screamed in fear, "Samar! Where are you?" Suddenly the lights came back on, and Samar was on one knee in front of Olivia!

Samar spoke, "True love means that you put someone else's needs before yours. True love is all about dealing with pain. If there's no pain in a relationship, then there will be something that's ten times worse than what anyone would ever expect. The first time I met you in the eighth grade biennial exhibition, it wasn't 'love at first sight.' My love and admiration for you formed gradually. Your personality, your voice, your eyes, the way you make me feel, and what you want out of life, increasingly assured me that you were the one who completed me. There have been like a hundred girls who proposed to me and trust me; I am not exaggerating! But you were the one who always kept me awake at night. Whenever I was glum, all I had to do is think about you, and then I am happy again! Olivia Madhavan, will you be my companion for the rest of my life and marry me?"

Olivia was speechless and had no words to say. She remained silent for a long moment. Samar stood up, looking worried about her answer. Olivia asked in a loud tone, "Does this answer your question?" She pulled him into a kiss! Samar grinned and asked sarcastically, "I don't know, maybe you have to answer again." She kissed him again, and he put the ring on her finger. They were finally engaged! Samar pulled Olivia into a warm embrace until they heard someone screaming and giggling. Samar asked, "Who's that?" Olivia replied with a smile on her face, "I think I know."

They went outside the church and saw the Sarah, Aiden, Mavis, and Pauline singing romantic songs and dancing to it. Olivia looked at them and startled them by saying, "Hopefully, it will be the last time this happens." She continued, "Whose idea and planning was this?" Aiden replied, "Samar gets all the credit, obviously!" Olivia responded, "No, I know that bringing Samar back to my life was some sort of a carefully organized plan. Whose idea was it?"

Sarah stepped forward and replied with tears in her eyes, "It was mine." Olivia's eyes softened, and she asked politely, "Why did you do this?" Sarah confessed, "I know what I did isn't worthy of your forgiveness, but I couldn't just sit around knowing that you're still mad at me. Especially when I know of how to mend it. Olivia, your friendship means the world to me, and I wanted you to know that. I know that people have always betrayed you, and you always knew how to stand up for yourself and move on even knowing that you're hurt from the inside. I did this; to show you how beautiful love can be and that you deserve true love in your life. This was also an act of friendship to remind you again how much you mean to me."

Olivia responded with tears in her eyes as well, "Well... I accept your apology, and even I'm sorry that I carried on that grudge for so long. I was just looking out for you, and that's what real friends do. Though you didn't realize at the time, today you showed me that you know and comprehend the true meaning of friendship. You turned out pretty great!" Olivia pulled Sarah into a warm and tight embrace. She then called for a group hug with all her real friends present there. "MANY PEOPLE WALK IN AND OUT OF OUR LIVES, BUT ONLY TRUE FRIENDS LEAVE THEIR FOOTPRINTS IN THEIR HEART, AND YOU CAN FIND THEM AT ANY TIME DURING YOUR LIVE. IN THIS CASE, THEY FOUND EACH OTHER DURING THE CHALLENGING YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL. THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT TORE THEM APART HAVE BROUGHT THEM EVEN CLOSER TOGETHER TODAY."
