Shirley woke up in a daze. She was disoriented and could not immediately connect with her surroundings. She still felt bound by the remnants of past, an invisible chain on her ankle, whose weight keeps reminding her of a dark night even after she woke up. A night that she thought was long forgotten by her but reality proved her otherwise.
One can never completely disconnect itself from its past, either good or bad, it always stays with us, in one form or other; lingering around us, waiting for a moment of weakness to pounce on its unsuspected prey.
Especially, a bad memory, a nightmare that once was reality.
