Chapter 97 - Just a Taste for Combat

A Magic Tool is far more versatile and useful than a Magic Weapon, and the classification of any Magic Item is assigned during its creation by its creator. In this case, its creator is me.

While a weapon is probably better for combat, I do not really need one, as I am not a combatant. I am a Merchant, and as one, why should I take the front-line when I can have others do it for me?

Despite that, I can certainly hold my own against pretty much anything, including a Ruler.

While that is true, I believe that I am ill-suited for the task defeating the Rulers, and I will support those who could, as I do not want to repeat the past.

Honestly, the battle between me and the Ruler of Death cannot be called anything but mutual assured destruction, as I literally have nothing left despite being the victor. For a Merchant, that might as well be called defeat.

And I hope that is the last time I had tasted bitter defeat.

The vine attacks the magic barrier powered by Magneto once more, causing the barrier to shatter. But the vine gets burned to ash by black flames from my blade before it can attack me.

I reach out my hands to channel more mana into the spheres, allowing them to glow brightly, readying for the next attack by the vines.

Instead of forming another magical barrier, I have Magneto casts a Fire Spell instead. The five spheres burst into flames and spew out fire, burning any vine that gets too close. As a result, however, my MP plummets, but that is easily solved with a Mana Potion.

I admit that I have a crappy amount of MP as well as recovery rate, I will not put any Attribute Points into the Intelligence stat like the first time. It is a complete waste of points due to my class. Plus, I can always drink Mana Potion to instantly recover.

With endless supplies of mana, Magneto continuously cast the Fire spell against the vines, burning all of them into ash. While its flames are not powerful as the black flames from Amaterasu, it is powerful enough to force the vines to retreat.

I think the monster realizes I am not a prey. Even if it still thinks so, I am too costly to devour. It rather avoids battle that it cannot win easily.

That is a sign of intelligence, and I allow the vines to retreat since I am too exhausted to bother hunting down pointless monster. It doesn't really give me anything useful by killing it. Other than experiences for Amaterasu and Magneto, of course. But I can certainly get experiences elsewhere.

In any case, I believe my Magic Tool, Magneto passes combat. With a thought, the spheres fly into the palm of my hand, and I put them away into my Inventory. I also put Amaterasu away and have a good look at my handy work.

The Major had done much of the damage with her explosive flames the day before. Even so, the black flames still left some very distinctive marks. Flames from Magneto too.

I fix my mask afterwards before teleport back to the underground chamber, returning to the very spot that I have teleported away from last night.

Everyone notices me, especially the Major. This is due to my aura, which they can all felt.
