Chapter 73 - Treasures within the Vault

The Major also prevents me from wandering off on my own again. She was too busy commanding her men to notice me previously, but it is different now. She is keeping a very watchful eye on me. When she is unable to, she assigns one of her men to it.

I mentally shrug at that and decide to play along. Of course, at her request, I am still attempting to sell everything piece of items that I can get my hand on, increasing my Wealth in the process. I am unsure whether I have reached level 8 after selling a ton of items.

And that is because I cannot just open my Status Window in front of everyone. It is stupid to do so, as there are plenty of sensitive information on my Status Window. I believe this is the same reason as to why the Major has not check her Status Window.

She might not play video games that much or at all, but she certainly knows enough to take precaution.

We eventually reach the source of the smoke, and it is coming out of a ventilation shaft near the open window. The shaft is not big enough for an adult to crawl through, not that anyone is willing to do so unless they are suicidal.

"This shaft is connected to the storage vault, Major. Perhaps, the civilians have locked themselves in there as a mean to survive," one of the soldiers informs after he determines where the shaft is leading to.

"That is plausible. Even if they are not there, it is still worth a trip there," the Major states and glances at me as if to make a point. I understand the reason to head there without her say so.

The storage vault contains some of the most prized treasures. It is also a resting place of many priceless items on display, but unfortunately, most of the staffs are no longer available. Those that are available, are no longer themselves.

And they are dealt with by a hail of bullets and bombs.

The loud sounds of gunshots and explosions do attract more monsters, but they also are dealt with by a hail of bullets and bombs. And if the monsters somehow survive that ordeals, the Major herself will take care of them personally.

It is a quite a bloodbath heading towards the storage vault of the museum. Luckily none of the soldiers are seriously injured like when they had fought against the Sprite Hounds.

At the storage vault, one of the soldiers knocks against the heavy door before pressing his ear onto it, trying to hear any response from the other side. The responses came in the form of knockings. "They are in here, Major."

"Thank you, soldier," the Major responses and examines the heavy door. "Tell them that we are here to help, so they should unlock the door from their side."

The soldier nods in understanding and relays the message through the closed vault doors. It is basically a thick slab of metal, and metal melts. "They are saying… the door… is jammed?"

"Tell them to stand back," the Major requests and begins to summon her power. Steel melts at about 2500 Fahrenheit, so she should not have a problem. Of course, she would likely roast them all before the door is burn through, not to mention the priceless items within. Thus, I decide to help.

"There is no need of that, Major. Just give me permission, and I will make the door disappear," I claim.
