Chapter 60 - On the Move Again

The assaults stop after a while, and I wonder why. Perhaps the vines have found something of interest – or maybe I should say someone of interest. A group of someone interesting. That is more likely, and I do wish whoever has managed to catch its attention the best of luck.

After restoring my Headquarter (my room) to its original undamaged condition, I finally close my eyes and take the much-needed rest. Unfortunately, my mind keeps on slipping in and out of consciousness repeatedly.

That cannot be helped since I have not had a good sleep in a very, very long time. Even though I have returned to the past and into my teenage body, dyssomnia still haunts me, preventing me from having any decent amount of sleep.

Well, it is hard to sleep when there are simply too many things on my mind. Things that I know I must do as soon as possible for the sake of the future, but there is just no time to do them. I feel like I have not accomplished nearly enough despite this is barely the third day within the Life Zone.

I can still remember what I was doing on the third day of the Death Zone. Hiding in a hole and shaking in fear as the undead horde roamed the streets, swarming anyone and anything that dared to move a muscle just like that World War Z movie.

But unlike that Hollywood movie, the only way to hide from the undead monsters was not to be seen in the first place. Simply stay out of sight and out of mind.

It is the same currently for many people. People who just want the nightmare to end. Just like the old me from before.

I check the pendant around my neck, as it is still glowing with the same brightness and pointing in the same direction. My mother has not moved from her spot, and maybe, she is stricken by the same fear and anguish like I had long ago.

If that is the case, she will probably be much safer where she is for now.

Of course, I should get to her as soon as possible.

Since I cannot rest, I prepare more things for the journey ahead. Without the vines trying to break into my Headquarter and have a go at me, I can concentrate my mind and focus my energy much easier.

But sadly, the silence outside in the dark produces a false sense of security, and I am uncertain exactly when I have fallen asleep due to exhaustion or more.

I suppose falling asleep is a good and a bad thing. Good because I finally get some rest, refreshing my mind and body. Bad because I am in what essentially a hostile territory even though I should be quite safe within the confine of my Headquarter.

Anyway, I was awoken due to the sounds of gunshots and explosions. Lots of gunshots and explosions, and that will attract a lot of monsters.

Not wishing to deal with more monsters, I pack up everything and destroy the Runic Furnace and Forge before readying to head out. I also disband the Headquarter, as this area will likely become a nest for all sort of monsters.

I left my room and my house afterwards, finding the whole neighbourhood is on fire. Not my doing.
