Chereads / One Last Merchant / Chapter 50 - No Time to Waste

Chapter 50 - No Time to Waste

There is no need for me to fight pointless battle, especially when I do not gain anything from doing so, as I have noticed all the monster essences (essentially experiences) are absorbed into those five adults when I am the only one who did all the killings myself.

This is the same as before when I had torched countless of monsters on the streets below. The same thing happened with Thomas back at school even though the essences should have been shared with me as well.

While my Merchant level does not level through combat, it is still nice to earn something for my effort, especially when I am exposing myself to unnecessary dangers. For what reason, really?

The others heed my words and takes a leap of faith across the building. The moment that they all have done so, I send several incendiary bombs onto the rooftop of the previous building.

An inferno instantly rages thanks to the enchanted flames, and as soon as several more Swamp Trolls leap up onto the rooftop by scaling the walls as well as the ladder, they become nice and toasty. This includes the leader, as its intelligent is not on par with human.

Of course, since the leader is of much higher level, the fire will take a while to kill it. I will just need to wait until it finally dies.

I point at the pile of weapons on the ground that I have prepared before attempting to save these five out of some possible returns. "Grab a weapon and start making yourself useful."

They do not need me to repeat myself before grabbing a rifle. This includes Natalie, as she appears to have some experiences wielding a firearm. It does not surprise me at all since this is the good old USA, a country where there are more guns than people.

"Shoot any monsters that try to jump across the gap or climb up the buildings. Even if the guns aren't effective, it will still slow them down," I bark the orders and take aim at the leader. Even with its higher agility, dodging a sniper round is still impossible, so it tanks my shots instead.

And I am glad that the sniper round manages to penetrate into its flesh, but unfortunately, not as deep as I had hoped. But I suppose that does not matter. If one bullet doesn't take it down, try two, and if two don't, try three. I keep firing until the damn thing bleeds to death while the others defend me as best as they can.

"I will… will… kill… you… human…" the leader growls and gurgles in its own greenish blood, and I only smirk at that.

"A lot of monsters like you have tried and failed," I response and end its life with a point-blank sniper round to the head. The recoil is incredible, but it is so satisfying seeing its brain matter splatters across the floor.

Once that is done, I walk away since I do not need to harvest its Life Crystal. It is not because I already have plenty via the Shop System, it is because the battle will attract more Swamp Trolls, and the battle after will attract more. Even if I kill them all, other monsters would come.

It is not impossible to eradicate all the monsters within the Life Zone, but I would not gain anything in doing so. The Black Tower is another matter, however. Lots to gain from there.

"You can keep the guns. Good luck," I tell the five people as I jump across to the next building.
