Chapter 48 - There are Baits Everywhere

The correct thing is not necessarily the right thing, however. And I am tempted to enslave them all on the account that I am somewhat in need of slave workers. They did not survive the first time around, and without my help, it is more than likely that they will not survive this time around either.

I am merely taking advance payment for my eventual service. More or less. Unfortunately, I really do not want to waste time loitering around here while my mother could be in serious danger.

Her safety takes priority at the moment.

"Jack, Clark, Sheldon, and Eric," I comment as I eye each of the men. My attention lands on the young woman last. Alex would have liked her from her matured appearance alone. Probably. "Natalie."

They all nod to confirm, and I hand each of them back their identification once I have committed their information to memory. "I'm afraid your assumption based on my uniform is incorrect. I am not from the army, and I certainly have no obligation to help you with whatever problems you may have. I wish you all the best of luck, as I have a place I need to be."

With that, I turn away and about to head off.

"Hey! Wait a second!" Clark calls out. "How did you manage to take out all of those monsters?"

I show an incendiary bomb within my palm. "Home-made. Packs a punch. Kills lots of monsters if used correctly. Those that doesn't go down, I have my trust sniper with me. Speaking of which, I think more are coming due to the noise."

With that, I crouch down to be completely out of view. They all copy me, as they are quick to act, and after a short moments, growls and grunts are heard on the street below. Damn. I will lose my loots to the monsters.

I take a peek to see what the monsters are doing, and a couple of the guys do the same. More blatantly than me, and it annoys me. They should just stay put and wait for the danger to pass instead of being too curious.

Once I've noticed that the humanoid monsters claim some of the Crystals, especially the Death Crystal, I hide myself from view once more and ponder how I can lure them up here. A solution quickly presents itself, as the others aren't hiding their presence from the monsters below.

I allow them to have their fun for a moment, increasing the risk of exposure.

"Please lower your head, as their senses are very sharp," I warn, but sadly, my warning is ignored, and like I have warned, the monsters eventually noticed the guys spying on them. "Told you so, but nope, and now, you're going to die a horrible death."

I get off the ground and run towards the ledge before jumping off and onto another ledge of another building. I keep running without looking back as I know the monsters will try to scale the building and reach the rooftop.

Once I believe I am far enough away, I turn around and take a prone position before readying to snipe anything that chase after me. Those people certainly try to follow me, but sadly, they are too afraid of jumping from one building to another, fearing they might fall to their death.

"Ah. Fresh meat," one of the Swamp Troll growls as it manages to climb onto the rooftop, forcing the people to back away. More Swamp Troll climbs onto the room, and soon, the people were surrounded.
