Chapter 12 - 12. Getting a perfect score

In a wide and spacious room, a boy and an adult was sparring, their spar quite intense. After a few minutes of fighting, both of them sat down to rest.

"How's school boy?" the older man asked.

"It was pretty good. Things are looking quite good, and I have made some friends", the boy replied, while panting heavily.

"That's good to hear. Just behave in school well, there's no significant things we should do for now."

"Okay".

"So, ready for another round?"

With that, they began to have another round of kicking and punching and dodging.

*******

"Damn".

It is Friday.

Bren still couldn't get over the fact that Jay had already started his harem journey. When Jay heard the word 'harem' from Bren, he furrowed his brows in annoyance, but still kept quiet, too lazy to speak with him.

For Bren, he was just shocked to see that all of the members of the Literature club are all beauties of the school.

Jay, on the other hand, doesn't care.

Both of them entered their room and was greeted by Natalie and Mark.

"They sure are suited for each other", said Bren as they walked past them.

"Oh, that's right. Mrs. Ran will give us a very long quiz today right? We should first prepare."

When Jay heard it, he raised his brows.

"Really?"

Bren, upon hearing it almost bit his tongue and turned to Jay, only to meet his gaze.

"What?" Jay once again raised his brows as he asked.

"Nothing".

Bren really felt lost. He doesn't understand how Jay could be like that.

They both went to their seats and took out their notebooks to review some past lessons. Even Jay took his time to read.

'So he really knows how to read his notes? I thought he will be too lazy to even open it.'

Bren just smiled. But his smile quickly disappeared.

"Eh?"

He saw Jay immediately closed his notebook and rested his head on his palm, closing his eyes.

"Hey dude, you're not even going to read?"

"Oh, well-"

Jay shows his notes to Bren. What he saw made him feel lost.

"Only one page was used?"

And what's more, only the titles of their previous topics are the only things listed down. Bren felt like crying. Sure, the school started several days ago, but the amount of lessons are many.

Knowing that Jay may fail the long quiz, Bren decided to lend him his paper.

Jay took it and looked at his notes.

'So clean.'

He turned to some pages.

'And so organized'.

'All topics, ... it's complete.'

Jay just returned the notebook to Bren. "Just review it Bren. I don't want you to fail just because of me."

Bren just stared at Jay as he held his paper. "Okay fine, just signal me if you need some answers." With that, Bren resumed his reviewing. Bren acted as if he will heroically help Jay when he will behave troubles answering.

Bren really spent a lot of efforts in taking down notes. It is because he doesn't want to looked down upon by his classmates.

The bell rang and Mrs. Ran entered the room.

She distributed the quiz sheets, and the quiz began.

After half an hour, they rotated their papers to be checked.

"Oh? Not bad, not bad", Bren happily spoke as he looked over his answers and his score. 40/50.

Satisfied with the result, he peeked at the papers of Natalie and Mark.

'Oh, 43 and 44. Not bad.'

He looked at Jay and saw him closing his eyes while leaning on the backrest of the chair. He took this opportunity to get his paper to see his score.

"Eh?"

This time, Bren felt like he will cry.

It's because he saw Jay got a perfect score.

50/50.

That score almost destroyed his self-esteem. A while ago, he felt sympathy for his friend. But now, he doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.
