Chapter 9 - Whom Are You Giving The Credit To, Me Or Yourself?

She was going to wish Old Madam Mu, when some girl's whispering caught her attention. She let out an arrogant scoff, 'Licentious bitchs! Don't let your bladder get loose and drool drip from your chins to the floor!'

She and Mu Yuhaan made a perfect couple, and every girl would look at the perfection with a jaundiced eye, with that all of their hopes of ever accomplishing Mu Yuhaan and the privileges that came along with him would be nipped in the bud!

Jing Lihua took pride in entertaining her thoughts with a smug look.

Meanwhile, Mu Yuhaan went to his grandmother directly, while Madam Mu was exchanging a few words with a guest, who went to wish her 80th birthday.

"Grandma," Mu Yuhaan called out, standing beside Old Madam Mu.

The Old Lady's eyes glistened with happy tears, when she saw him. "Little Lad, finally you have remembered your grandma! Don't you know how much this Old Lady misses you? Why don't you visit me more often?"

She complained and hugged Mu Yuhaan, patting his back. Mu Yuhaan felt weird being patted at this age, however, no matter how many times he protested, his grandmother wouldn't listen. Old habits die hard. With a subtle helpless sigh, he also hugged his grandma in return.

In actuality, the grand and richest Mu family didn't have many members in it. Old Master Mu, who was Mu Yuhaan's grandfather, was the only child of his parents, who founded the Mu Empire from scratch.

Old Master Mu and Old Madam Mu also had only one child, Mu Zhang Wei. In his youth, Mu Zhang Wei had gone to Oxford University for higher studies and met Christine Smith, Mu Yuhaan's mother there.

Mu Zhang Wei and Christine Smith used to be classmates and each other's eyesore. In the beginning, they would be at each other's throat, as both were toppers of that class. Initially, there was a lot of competition between these two, but after a year, their hatred slowly turned into deep love.

They stayed together in Oxford, and for the next few years they were hardly ever apart. They definitely had their moments. However, instead of getting sick of each other, they learned how to function side by side together. There had always been beauty and stillness in their relationship, and over the years this love only kept increasing.

After their graduation, Christine Smith got a job offer in 'WHO' as she had interviewed for it. Mu Zhang Wei, who was supposed to take up the next president's position in the Mu Empire, fell into a huge dilemma.

He tried to persuade Christine Smith to move to China with him, to be his wife. He also offered her the vice president's position in the Mu Empire, but she kept rejecting it, as working in WHO was her biggest dream. Mu Zhang Wei felt thrown under the bridge. Hence, the couple split up in a huge dust-up.

Mu Zhang Wei took responsibility of his family business in order to fulfill his filial piety; however, very soon he got into depression. As days passed by, Mu Zhang Wei's condition was deteriorating, which didn't go unnoticed by the Old Master and Madam Mu.

One day, when he returned home drunk, Madam Mu confronted Mu Zhang Wei, and the latter started sobbing like a child, and told his mother everything about the love of his life, Christine Smith.

Later, Old Madam Mu persuaded Old Master Mu to let Mu Zhang Wei go to the U.S.A. Old Master Mu also loved his only son, as a result he couldn't see him in pain.

Following day itself, he told Mu Zhang Wei that he could follow his sweetheart's footsteps, but on one condition-he had to give him a grandson within a year. Instead of 50s, he would retire in 70s, but then he needed a grandson to take charge of the family business, which Mu Zhang Wei agreed happily.

As Mu Zhang Wei promised, Christine Smith gave birth to Mu Yuhaan in the first year of their marriage. This couple now had three sons. Mu Yuhaan the eldest one, Mu Ethan second one, Mu Evan the youngest one.

Among these three grandsons, Mu Yuhaan was the only one who lived in China. Hence, Old Madam Mu was very sentimental about his presence on every special occasion.

"Happy Birthday, this is for you." Mu Yuhaan gave the jewelry box to his grandma, without any solid expression on his face.

Like an eager kid, Grandma Mu opened the jewelry box without a second wasted. What welcomed her vision was a breathtakingly beautiful necklace with a precious red diamond, sitting in the middle.

"It's very beautiful..." The One Madam murmured under her breath, then looked at Mu Yuhaan with doting eyes, before saying, "You inherited my unique taste, I love it."

"Whom are you giving the credit to, me or yourself?" Mu Yuhaan teased, with his signature phlegmatic face.

Old Madam Mu laughed out heartily. She was very fond of diamonds, and no matter how many she already owned, she wanted more.

While Madam Mu was admiring the necklace, by caressing it with her wrinkled fingers, a shy voice called out from behind Mu Yuhaan.

"Grandma,"

The Old Lady lifted her gaze from the jewelry in her hand, offered the girl a gentle smile. "Lihua, come here dear."

Jing Lihua went forward with the air of a happy conquistador who had attained the object of her desires. Whenever she looked at Mu Yuhaan's face, a sudden surge of butterflies would fill her stomach and they would start dancing there.

"Happy 80th Birthday to you grandma! I wish! You live for another 100 years!" Saying that, Jing Lihua handed a big package over to Old Madam Mu. "This is your birthday gift from me. I sincerely hope you will like it." She spoke slowly and elegantly, just like a textbook example of a demure ancient concubine.

"I am sure, your gift will be as sweet as you are, and I will definitely like it." Old Madam Mu received the package, then kept the box on the big table beside her, where a mountain of gifts had been created already.
