Chapter 28 - Catching Up

"WHAAAT!?" Jayce was standing outside the room where Wren had been staying. Sir Shoyo stood in front trying to shush Jayce. "Why didn't anyone tell me he was back, and that Lady Wren was awake? Am I the last to know?" Jayce said with a sad tone. Sir Shoyo sighed and shook his head, "Sir Jayce, it is the middle of the night. what are you doing in the medical ward at this hour? Wait do not just-" Before Sir Shoyo could protest any longer Jayce opened the door and saw the shirtless Michael leaning against the wall near Wrens bed, while Wren had slightly rosy cheeks and looked startled. "Oh thank goodness Lady Wren. You're okay!" Jayce quickly strode up to Wren and gave her a hug, "I'm sorry about the hug, I was just worried and everyone was keeping me so busy that I could barely visit you." Wren lightly hugged Jayce back, after which Jayce let go and Sir Shoyo finally entered the room. "My apologies Madame Priestess and Sir Michael, I had no...?" Sir Shoyo looked at Michael with a questioning look. Michael sighed, "I was dirty and smelt bad and wanted to rinse off, Miss Naya brought me clothes but didn't bring a shirt so it was stay shirtless or stinky; as you can see I chose shirtless. Now leave it be."

Everyone in the room was startled to hear Michael raise his voice, 'Wow, I didn't think he would act like that in front of her,' "Anyways, how are you feeling Lady Wren? Do you know how long you've been asleep? Do you need anything?" Jayce was asking many questions and Michael saw the tired look on Wren's face. "Jayce, hold the questions. It's the middle of the night. We will hold an informal meeting after your morning training. Lady Wren is fine, she has all she needs, no she has not been filled in on her condition because she has only just waken up. Also, you have never been formally introduced, yet you embraced her so carelessly, do be mindful of things such as this." Sir Shoyo smiled then yawned, "If there is nothing further I will leave you all be, I need my sleep. Madame Priestess I will return by breakfast hour and check on you. I am glad you are finally with us once more, have a good night," He then turned and walked out.

"We don't need to be formally introduced, Michael. He knows who I am and I know who he is, we have already met correct? You worked in the hospital if I'm not mistaken? I appreciate your concern, however, Sir Shoyo has a point. It is very late and I will be busy catching up with things I have missed so even though I've been unconscious, I still need sleep. Please feel free to stay in the room adjacent this one, there are no other patients therefore it is empty. I would feel terrible for you to have to walk all the way back to your living quarters." Wren said with a sincere smile, 'Gah, she's so sweet. Damn Michael, ruining my time with her,' "I'm sorry Lady Wren, I wasn't thinking about the time. I was just so excited to hear that you woke up. I think I'll take up your offer and stay across the hall. I'll see you in the morning," Jayce said with a big toothy grin. 'Such a sweet heart,' Wren thought and smiled back until Jayce shut the door. Neither Wren nor Michael were saying anything, and they were avoiding eye contact.

Finally Wren broke the silence, "I feel that we were interrupt at an opportune moment. If we had not been interrupted I feel that I would have lost full control of my thoughts and actions. I acted impulsively because I missed you and was so ecstatic to see you by my side again. I apologize if I caused you any discomfort. I am going to go back to sleep now of that is alright with you. We can continue our...discussion at a later date. Thank you for being here with me tonight," Wren smiled at Michael, who sighed deeply. "My Lady, do not ever mention losing control in type of scenario in front of me or any other man, for I have even less impulse control than even you. I was at my limit just before you broke away, I don't believe I would be able to hold myself back again. I will look forward to the day when we can discuss things properly. If there is anything you need, do not hesitate to let me know. I have missed you greatly as well My Lady, it is no concern for me to stay with you. I will guard you until my last breath." Michael held eye contact with Wren the entire time, he then stood up, gently patted Wren's head, and walked to the bathroom. Wren was confused but decided not to say anything, she was far to tired to have a discussion. Shortly after the water started running, Wren drifted off to sleep.

Early the next morning, Jayce reported to his training, Michael had to leave to report his new findings to Lord Valen, and Sir Shoyo came to check in on Wren. "Sir Shoyo, how long was I unconscious?" Sir Shoyo stopped what he was doing at his desk and looked up at Wren, "It has been one months time th-" "What?! One month? How the hell-" Sir Shoyo cleared his throat, "Madame Wren, I know you have not forgotten the years of etiquette lessons you were taught in this short of time span, correct? Do show the proper respect." Wren rolled her eyes and sighed. "Yes yes, pardon my poor manners. I am just flabbergasted that it has truly been that long. Did we not work out the kinks to the black pow-" "MY LADY PRIESTESS!" Someone yelled as they burst into the room, 'Here we go, more theatrics from the young one who couldn't pass a basic medical course,' Sir Shoyo sighed.

Wren giggled and reached her arms out towards Aster, he gladly accepted her hug. "Hello to you to Aster. Are you doing well? I heard you are a Water Unit trainee now?" Aster could barely hear what she was saying and simply nodded to everything she said. Aster was just so happy to know she was okay, "I'm so glad you're okay Priestess. You had been gone so long on your mission, then the Haruki attack, and then when I finally see you, you are unconscious with a tree protruding from your torso and your leg! You really missed a lot. I completed some mock Water Unit missions and attended 2 council meetings." Wren finally managed to pry Aster off and helped him to the seat that had previously been Michael's. She looked back to Sir Shoyo and he nodded, excusing himself in the process.

"I think Naya has a crush on the new guy, Jayce. Oh and, and Jayce is doing guard training. Vivi has also been helping with medical training. She patched Michaels wounds nicely. Lord Valen has shown quite an interest in the Lightening's lately. Oh-" "Goodness Aster, do me a favor and breath okay? Thank you for filling me in but could you please talk slower? My head is still somewhat fuzzy. Also, what do you mean by "lightening's"? We still have time to talk, there is no rush. I don't think I could complete any missions now even if I wanted to." Aster looked apologetically at Wren, "Sorry Madame Wren, I mean the Lightening Unit trainees. I just don't like to say that every time. The main thing you need to know is Haruki has been caught and re-sealed within the Western Shrine. Sir Shoyo and Vivi told me your wounds would take some time to heal because of The Ancient Tree's sap, it seeped into your wounds and in turn your blood, causing your rapid healing ability to all but vanish."

'So it was as I thought,' Wren paused a moment, "Has there been any word if Remo or the others have been unsealed as well?" Aster shook his head, "Nothing has been mentioned to me, but I am just a low level assistant. The Elders might have more information for you after the informal meeting. Speaking of which, I have to go prepare for that. I brought you some clothes and your ceremonial robe. I know you do not like to wear it, but if Lord Valen has to wear his, you have to wear yours." Wren huffed, crossed her arms, and stuck her tongue out, "Heh, rude! I was just trying to help you Lady Wren. Many of the other clan members, as well as others within our territory do not know about your...absence. You will have to act as if nothing is out of the ordinary. Also, it is growing closer to the anniversary of the war, we need to begin preparing as well." Wren ruffled Aster's light orange and slightly pink tinted curly hair, "Why did you get so serious on me Aster? You're the fun one remember?" Wren giggled and pulled her hand away, Aster simply smiled.

"I know you are just looking out for me Aster, thank you for the clothes. I'll bid you farewell for now. Thank you again. Make sure to save me extra strawberries please?" Wren put her hands together and near her face in a mock begging sort of motion and Aster smiled and nodded, "Of course My Lady," he handed her the bag, and left the room. Wren let out a sigh of relief, "Pff, Valen having to wear his ceremonial robes, hah. Goody goody, that is exactly what he gets for mocking me." Wren had a satisfied smile on her face as she began to change clothes.
