Chapter 3 - 3. Gar and the Mountain Trail

Moments after leaving the Goblin King's cave, he came upon the mountain trail leading up to the castle in the clouds. With a sigh he looked down the path to see many hordes of red goblins running about looking as if they were getting stuff done but to any other race's eyes it just looks like a storm of chaos happening. He looked at some goblins gathering to the left side and wished he really hadn't. The gathering were getting ready for mating practices which is not worth seeing out in the open. Gar was still young so mating was not something he had been into. To the right some were getting the morning catches ready for meals. Which simply consisted of hacking off various parts and limbs from the animals.

Gar then took a thought to mind 'Gar could run... find a new cave. Sleep a lot!' He then shook the thought from his mind and turned up the mountain.

For what seemed like two hours he continued his climb up the trail. He kicked small stones with his feet as he lazily walked the path. "Gar having a great time!" He said with an extremely sarcastic manner. He started to mock orders from the king and mocking the other goblins' insults to him.

A noise breaks his ranting and he turned to look. Out about a half mile away he spots kobolds and red skinned goblins are at war by throwing stones and various small things like one was a dead rat that just happened to have a rock pelt it dead in the head. Gar knew the hatred between kobolds and goblins was intense but never had seen them practically break into all out fights for it. Usually they just snapped and barked insults at one another till they just passed by. Both races were on the same low survival rate so fighting was always really avoided out of pure instincts rather than intelligence of any kind.

Approaching quietly, he watched the fight continue from a large rock he eventually moved behind to watch in hiding. A sign of movement coming from down the mountain trail caught his attention. A humanoid creature with a pale and shiny skin dressed in a rather weird green cloak but with it open revealed he wasn't wearing anything under it. Which looked odd to Gar since he only knew a few humanoid creatures that went nude and his race was definitely one of them.

He watched the figure walk up the path and noticed he was about to enter the war zone of the goblins and kobolds. The figure didn't seem to care about anything going on around him till two spears shot out from each side and just barely hit him. Then like it was with reflex, his shape morphed into a turtle and then with a popping like sound he hid inside his green shell. Gar starred with disbelief at his actions and watched as one from each side approached the turtle and poked it. The kobold then took a quick hit at it with a stick like spear that bounced off and hit the kobold in the forehead. Sending it back peddling a few steps then regained its ground while rubbing its forehead. With a whine of discomfort.

A goblin bent over the turtle and peered into its shell. It got more curious and moved closer. Then like the speed of lightning from the shell for a split second the turtle's head popped out and bit down on the goblins nose. The goblin squealed with pain and tried to throw the turtle off. With three struggling tugs it succeeded. And the turtle is sent 3 feet away and its head now safely hidden in its shell again.

Gar watched as the goblins and kobolds started to gather around him again. As the goblin, now angered from his nose being bitten which started to bruise a nice purple now, was about to take a great big swing now with its weapon of choice. When an arrow shot the goblin dead in between the eyes and the head of the arrow cleanly poking outside the back of its head. Gar turned his attention to the direction of where the arrow came from and spotted a group of humanoid creatures advancing on the goblins and kobolds.

The group consisted of one human, one tiefling, two dragon-born, one elvish looking orc, and one half-elf. The one who shot the arrow was a red scaled dragon-born with a light hint of bronze to highlight his scales. His gold eyes flashed as he shouted "Phantom ol' boy! You alright in there!" A faint sound then came from the turtle shell "Not really sure! Too afraid at the moment. Could you kill them though? That would be greatly appreciated!" His voice went from calm to a voice that sounded like he was angry that the dragon-born even asked such a question.

Another voice spoke and it came from the tiefling. "Tell me what was he even thinking of running off ahead like that." Opening his hand he conjured a ball of frost which he shot towards a kobold and froze a portion of its chest on impact. The kobold staggered back then hissed at its attacker.

The red skinned orc with elven ears and features came barreling through the small crowd with his axe swinging with a mighty barbaric roar. He then stopped standing over the turtle and readied his axe for a mighty swing if the enemy were to approach. Then the small turtle head poked out and in his mouth was a small dagger readied for defense. What the dagger was gonna do didn't make sense to the limited movement of its head but it had the determination that it seemed safer.

Gar watched as a female caster started to launch daggers of blue light at a goblin. And watched as the dragonborn swordsman that looked exactly like the other one. Had leaned against a rock appearing to want nothing to do with the fight. His eyes coming to a close.

Gar watched as the goblins and kobolds were struck down one by one by either spell, arrow, or the brutes axe. One lone goblin was running away from the fight in fear. That was when the elven looking orc picked up the medium sized turtle and hurled it with a loud warcry like grunt at the fleeing enemy. The projectile soared through the air with an incredibly fast spin like a fribee and bashed the final goblin in the back of its noggin with a small pop as it's head snapped from the sheer force of the impact.

The orc roared with victory and looked around yelling "Fish man did you see that throw..." the voice trailed off then held his hands to his head. "Uh oh." He now realizing what he had just done.

"What the hell!?!"Said the turtle as it reverted back to the humanoid form unclothed except for the green skin like cloak. He stumbled as he walked back to the rest of them and looked like he had to barf from the toss induced dizziness he just took part in. "Aw man... my head." He then stood for a second then with a hand on his stomach said. "Yeap lunch is coming back up." And with full force hurled on the mountain rocks. Thokk wincing at the sight.

"Thokk sorry friend." The elven orc said with a worried face. As the female caster strolled up to look over the dizzied shapeshifter. "Brother! What were you thinking throwing Phantom like that!?!" She spat at the orc. "Thokk said sorry...." he responded in a defeated tone. It looked like out of the two of them she might be the scarier one.

Phantom swatted her hands away and said "Thia, Im fine." The tiefling approached and with an almost dark laughed he said. "But you have to admit that was an amazing toss by Thokk!" He patted the back of Thokk. Thokk then said while nervously rubbing rhe back of his head. "Yeah Thokk strong." Went to laugh but caught his sister's dark and scary glare and decided against it.

A voice then called from ahead and Gar looked towards it to see a black haired human in a traveler's garb waving to the group to follow him up the mountain. Gar then wondered if the man wasn't with the group beforehand. And how did he pass the fighting without being seen. He watched as they traversed up the mountain and out of sight.

As soon as he knew that they were a good way away he decided to move from his spot. When suddenly a pair of medium pale soft hands came from behind him, one covering his mouth keeping him from squealing and another wrapped around his small body to prevent him from moving.

A sweet female whisper in common came to his long green ears. "Don't move. Stay quiet!"
