Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: A Month Later Pt. 1

Quint was alone in one section of the island, secluding himself so he could focus on his training. "I still haven't been able to cause other things to catch fire. This is harder than I thought and it had already been a month. I just got to remember the hint that Mom gave me. She said to picture it in my mind and focus my energy at the object. Am I not focused enough? Should I just give up and start on something else? Am I distracting myself right now? Shit! This is too much to think about!" thought Quint.

Shay used the water to travel around the island. She used her powers too make the water propel her forward. As she traveled, she worked on changing the form of the water. She created many shapes and figured with the water. "I'm not sure if this is what Mom meant or if she just wanted me to work on controlling my spirit energy while using my water," thought Shay. She then used the shapes she created earlier to crush boulders.

Lucas lays on top of a stone platform that he created, his eyes closed and focused on using his other four senses to associate with the stone. He even had rocks in his mouth to know the taste of stone. He felt the cold, hard stone against his body. He could smell it and even hear the stone. "I.... I can hear it!" thought Lucas. Lucas jumped up and produced there balls of energy. That energy transformed into heavy stones. "Finally, a breakthrough!" thought Lucas as he removed the rocks from his mouth.

Simone is meditating, taking in the sounds of the island. The birds chirping, the animals rummaging through the forest, the waves going in and out, and the breeze passing through. She calmed her mind because being calm means being in control. She chanted her mantra, "I'm in control." She repeated over and over the entire session until she was interrupted. "You won't have control for long!" shouted the psychic being within her.

Mary hovered over the island watching each one of her students train individually. She was impressed by their determination and happy that they have taken training seriously. "Training is going well enough. Quint seems to be struggling with setting things on fire. Shay is taking my advice too literally. Lucas has completed the task I have him. Simone hasn't went berserk in two weeks, that's good progress. Oh well, time for me to see what they got," said Mary calmly as she descended upon Shay with a smug smirk on her face and arms crossed. "The best lessons come from a loss is what my master used to say and he wasn't wrong," thought Mary.

Shay looked up when she felt her mom's spirit energy. "Mom is flying?!" thought Shay. Mary raised her hand and fired electricity into the air. Mary's spiritual power felt heavy and unbearable to Shay. Shay braced herself for a fight. "So you're ready?" asked Mary.

"Bring it!" replied Shay.

"Someone is being extra bold. Be careful, I might fight you seriously," taunted Mary.

"I want you to fight me seriously," said Shay.

"My sweet daughter, if I became serious, you'd be dead within a second," said Mary, "Now, enough talk!"

"That we agree on," said Shay as she pointed behind Mary.

There were three spheres of water behind Mary. Shay smiled as Mary turned around and witnessed what she had manifested. Mary then disappeared from Shay's sight. Mary flickered behind Shay and attempted to strike her, but she was blocked. "She blocked me without even turning around or hesitating," thought Mary. Shay turned around as fast as she could and said "Torrent Stream!" One of the spheres let loose a high volume, highly pressurized steam of water. The sphere disappeared. Mary dodged the attack and floated back into the air and fired more electricity into the air. "What does she have planned?" thought Shay.

"Does Shay think she had me fooled? These spheres are just a distraction, but what she doesn't know is that I won this fight before it started," thought Mary. As she was floating there thinking, a sphere appeared in front of her and encased her. Mary raised her power and burst out of the sphere! "I knew that wouldn't hold you," stated Shay, "That's why I had this prepared." But at that moment, a bolt of lightning came down from the sky and fried Shay. Shay's eyes almost rolled to the back of her head, but she held onto her consciousness. Mary flickered in front of her and said, "I really wish you had went unconscious then. Lightning Strike!" Another bolt of lightning came down struck Shay again. The last thing Shay heard before going unconscious was Mary saying "Sometimes sheer power trumps intelligence," and then she disappeared, leaving Shay on the beach.

After Mary had defeated Shay, she flew off to find her next opponent. As she was flying, she thought about who her next opponent will be. "Lucas is the closest so I'll pay him a visit. Let's see what he has learned.

Lucas was laying on the stone platform he created, when he felt Mary's power approaching him. "She must be here for a fight," said Lucas aloud as he stepped off of his platform onto the ground. As Mary approached, he could feel how immense her power is. Before he knew it, Mary was descending upon him. "Shit! No time to prepare!" thought Lucas. "Show me what you've learned!" commanded Mary.

Lucas rushed Mary with a flurry of punches and kicks. Mary blocked each one of his strikes. "His strikes are strong and he attacks with ferocity! His speed is unmatched by the others. He might land a hit if I keep fighting at this level," thought Mary as she blocks his attacks. Lucas continued his attack until he suddenly couldn't move. Mary then started to smirk. "So it's kicked in I see," said Mary smugly, "You see, I covered my hands with a little electricity. Every time I blocked you, I sent small electrical currents throughout your body shutting down your muscles."

Mary walked over to Lucas confidently and said, "I'll make sure I knock you out with one punch." As she prepared to deliver her final blow, Lucas threw a punch at her. She barely dodged the attack. Lucas then jumped back to put distance between them. "You're not as simple as I thought!" said Mary surprised.

"I could see your electricity flowing. It was faint, but I saw it! And then I remembered that you can paralyze people using that technique so I faked being paralyzed," explained Lucas.

"I'm impressed. I guess fighting demons has heightened your senses, but I'm sure you didn't see this coming," replied Mary. At that moment a stream of electricity came from below Lucas and traveled through his body! Lucas screamed in pain and then hit the ground, defeated and unconscious. Mary laughed and said "I made sure he could see the electricity, but just barely so he could focus on it and not pay attention to the electricity I put into the ground from my feet. Ahhhhhhh... I'm such a genius." She then took off.
